Noob question here, but is there a naming convention where colors in shaft names (blue, silver, black, etc) indicate some consistent profile characteristics across different manufacturers? If so, is there a reference list somewhere?

Technically speaking no, there is not a industry standard for colors referring to launch and spin profiles...... but black is usually a stronger shaft for low spin / low launch. Fujikura Ventus Black, LA Golf Ozik Black Tie, Fujikura atmos tour spec black, Project x hzrdus black, Oban Kiyoshi Black

Black is probably the safest bet to assure it will be low launch / spin. Other than that you just gotta do research. Ozik White Tie is a high launch shaft while Mitsubishi Tensei Pro White is a low launch/ low shaft

You are correct, but to further take that, Black is not completely safe as the low launching version. Aldila is a good example of this, where the Black is mid/high and the White is low and Mitsubishi as you mentioned is also done that way. There are a few others as well.

Thanks for the replies. Didn’t really think it would be that straight forward, but thought I’d ask.

If you stick with one shaft manufacturer, they might keep the same "theme" with time in their lineup. Diamana Blue, Red, White, etc.
No standards in anything. Golf is the sports wild, wild West. (Kinda.) (y);)
