I think you're right unfortunately. I wish they would test it once a year in a tournament or something.Yes, they should be. But I doubt it would ever happen. Professional golf is too traditional to change something like that.

It's a definite no for the players.
And I do not believe caddies should be permitted to wear shorts, either. It was Steve Williams, during Tiger's heyday, who was able to get the Tour to allow caddies to wear shorts.
Several of the finest golf club's in the US do not permit men to wear shorts on the course, only women. I like that tradition.
Also, I think wearing long pants, even long sleeve shirts, since the fabric keeps sun off the skin, is both more healthy and could be cooler than shorts.

Consider why farmers , gardeners, and others working outside everyday usually wear long sleeve shirts and long pants.
