Should the US Opens be at a private or a public course?

Interesting replies - i hadn't considered parking, sponsor tents, and the impact on the course availability both before and after. And although Pebble Beach is expensive, it beats coughing up 100k to play at a private course. Personally I would like to see more risk/reward holes, rather than penalizing anyone not in the fairway.

My view may be skewed by the media coverage, which hasn't been the greatest.

Exactly! So is Kiawah, Pinehurst #2, Whistling Straights, Bethpage Black, Erin Hills, Torrey Pines and others that have hosted US Opens. That doesn't mean I can play them! Played Spyglass Hill in the late 90's, and it was already $190 a round on a weekday!

I mean, the market sets the price. If they can get it, they’ll charge it. I get that.
