40 years ago people would kill for these. I had a deal with a guy that went to Japan 4 times a year. I'd sell him all of these I could find and'd take them to Japan and sell them to golfers over there for 3 times what he paid me, and he paid good money to me. The Japanese bought them for status. They'd go nuts over any Tommy Armour Ironmaster putter because that's what Jumbo Ozaki used. Old Pings and 8802s, 8813s and Wilson designed by Arnold Palmers were hot also. Nice old persimmon too. Today they are just decent fireplace pokers. I never could putt a lick with any of them, still can't. I putted with a Ping My Day for at least 25 years but they weren't too sought after. Still have it, just got it out, too light, needs world of lead tape. I putt with an old Kirk Currie that's around E1 swing weight. Better for the old man yips.

At one time I had 40 or so old classics, maybe 20 left.

I added one to the collection yesterday. I really love the lines and milling on this one as much as anything I own. It came with the 390 gram weight but I have lighter weights for it from a few Wilson Staff Kirk Currie putters I own(375 or 360 grams) or I can remove the sole weight altogether and bring the head weight down to about 330 grams.
It was a bargain for $90 on eBay. It looks a lot different in the outdoor light in the pictures. I’ll be putting a One Step shaft in this one very soon.

Tahoebum: I have had several of Currie's putters. Brazos being my favorite. Love the durable Gun Blue finish. I wonder why more putter designers did not use the weight changing sole plates? It's so easy to change out the weight. I also like the goose neck style titanium hosel he used in most putters.
Maybe more than anything I liked Kirks balls. Story goes that after he unsuccessfully tried several times to have Jack Nicklaus try out one of his Slazenger putters, he showed up at Jack's house (out of the blue) to show him his putters and the adjustable fitting technology.

Tahoebum: Just curious, your Brazos is a Belly Putter version. Did the shaft come cut down to a standard length?
And if it did, how is the lie angle?

Well I game an old Slazenger KIrk Currie LCP 1 that I bought off of ebay for $14.95 plus shipping. I remember the old Kurr line he had and one putter in particular that I should have bought but didn't. We all know that story. Anyway when it shows up it's a solid 9 out of 10 some minor chatter on the sole, topline almost perfect. Man did it feel right too a tad flat and pleasing to look at. You couldn't make a bad stroke with it. I put a Win Dri Tac on it and stuck it in the bag. First few times out inside 5 feet it was money. I had to know more about it. I found Currie's old business partner on the Internet and emailed him about these putters. His reply is below plus some info on his Nicklaus adventure. Thought this would be of interest.

Mike,

Kirk and I developed the very first putter fitting system in the golf industry.. We introduced it in the Houston and Dallas market (strictly green grass) in mid-1996 and by the end of the year signed a licensing deal with Slazenger by the end of the year. Prior to Slazenger, Titleist entertained the relationship, but they had just hired Cameron, and he wanted nothing to do with it. The fitting system incorporated a bending machine and measuring process. All putters were unfinished with full length shaft. The fitter/golf pro would determine length, loft, lie angle, hosel offset, putter balance, and grip preference. Then bend the hosel, cut the shaft, and grip the putter on the spot. The customer could putt on the green, and always had the ability to tweak the bend. The system was way ahead of its time. We later added a laser aim device and would fit for alignment. We milled all putters for the system at our shop in The Woodlands, TX. We also manufactured and distributed all of the fitting systems. Slazenger placed over 1,200 systems in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia. The consumer loved it, the golf pro did not execute.

We had several models which were offered in long and short hosel; milled from brass, carbon steel, and copper. The model LCP1 represents Long, Copper, Perimeter weighted, Model 1. The putter was milled circa 1997-98. The only way to purchase one of our putters was via fitting, so I assume you came across your putter after the fact and not custom fit. The putter just happens to fit your eye and stroke.

Point of interest... in 1998 Jack Nicklaus was custom fit by a Slazenger technical representative. He loved the fitting process, the putter, and putt it in his bag. Coincidently, it was an LCP1. He loved the sound (or feel) of the copper. We split with Slazenger in 1999, relaunched our brand and added the option of interchangeable plates to custom weight the putter head, and ultimately a grip weighting system in each putter. In 2000, I contacted Nicklaus, got his putter specs, and we made him one of our new copper Brazos (we named our putters after Texas rivers). He put it in his bag for the remainder of his Tour career. His specs: 33 1/2", 360 grams, slight offset, with a bend that left the putter with significant toe hang, lie angle 2 degrees flat.

Those were the days for us!

Best.

Rick Wright

Not much of a collection but the 3 putters I own.

I love putters but it is better for me to commit to one putter and practice with it as much as I can. The Kevin Burns will be my gamer for now on. The Dead Centrer is with me since 1994 or 1995, The SC will probably be gifted to my brother.

Not a big collection

-Scotty Cameron Phantom X 5- Custom black and gold weights with dollar sign. My usual gamer.

-Scotty Cameron Select Golo- My first Scotty. Saved from a junk pile and I had it fixed.

-Evnroll ER11

- Calamity Jane - I’m a big fan of a certain legendary golfer. Tracked it down on eBay. Original wrapped grip on the putter.

- Old 1950s Macgregor- Same putter used by Ben Hogan during his US Open streak. Original wrapping grip on the putter

- Odyssey White Hot RX- Found it thrown in a used goods shop and cleaned it up.

I just took these two photos, merged them in Photoshop, and wrote a description. The thing I left out (not enough room) was more details to the "clone" of the Rossie II.... That was actually "made" for me years and years ago by a friend of a neighbor, who assembled clubs in his basement. He said he could build me a putter for $20 bucks. Sooooo, I said "what the heck", you know? He assembled a copycat/clone of the Rossie II mallet putter and even went a step further and glued in a plastic name badge with my name on it! I can't play with it, for fear of losing it, as it is very sentimental.

FQeGkQE.jpg

I have three now but I only had the one Odyssey rossie since I was in highschool

Newer models I have now are a Ray Cook SR 595, and a pinemeadow PRE 2.0

Funny enough that pinemeadow is in the bag right now.

I picked up a 20$ shamrock sonic 2 and refinished it. Came out decent. I couldn't get all the marks off. Previous owner must have used it in a gravel pit.
