Hard to leave Pat Benatar off for sure, she's a great singer. My list would mostly just be singers of bands that I like, who are all first rate but might not be "all time" great. My own opinion of a genuine #1 of all time would probably have to be Steve Perry.
I'm surprised Pat Benatar hasn't made anyone's list.
I was never a big Morrison fan, but James Dewar was so underappreciated.I would be remiss to not mention Jim Morrison.
And James Dewars ( Robin Trower)
Great call with Joe Cocker!Robert Plant
Janis Joplin
Ann Wilson
Bob Seger
John Fogerty
David Clayton Thomas (Blood Sweat and Tears)
Paul McCartney
John Lennon
Rod Stewart
Joe Cocker
Don’t run on. You were done at 3Chris Cornell
Layne Staley
Freddie Mercury
Tom Keifer quite possibly the most underrated rock guitarist ever as well. Really wanted to put him on my list…My list is kind of all over the place and in no particular order but I'll give it a go...........
Tom Keifer (quite possibly the most underrated hard rock singer ever)
Blackie Lawless (absolute perfect metal voice)
Rob Halford (The king)
Finally somebody mentioned Phil Anselmo! Klaus Meine is a solid choice too. Halford is one of the best metal voices ever, and he's still bringing it hard in his 70s!My list is kind of all over the place and in no particular order but I'll give it a go...........
Robert Plant (I mean, how do you leave him off?)
Tom Keifer (quite possibly the most underrated hard rock singer ever)
Blackie Lawless (absolute perfect metal voice)
Rob Halford (The king)
Steve Perry (see Robert Plant)
Prince (no explanation needed)
David Draiman (I just can't leave him off)
James Hetfield (nothing impressive about his range or his voice but he sang the soundtrack of my life)
Janis Joplin (not sure I've ever seen a singer emote more through their singing.....ever)
Stevie Nicks (Instantly recognizable)
Bruce Dickenson (pipes for days)
Freddie Mercury (because....of course)
Honorable mentions to:
CFH era Phil Anselmo (incredible range for that style of music)
Huey Lewis (perfect voice for that band)
Klaus Meine
Paul Stanley
Steven Tyler
Boy George (yes... I know.. but the ...... can sing)
I wasn't sure George Michael met the "rock" category (although to be fair, some of my other choices probably didn't either), but he had an amazing voice. Faith is still up there among my all-time favorite albums. If I would have gone much further, George Michael would have definitely come up. After Freddie Mercury, he probably exuded the most passion in his performances.
