Love, love, love... did I say LOVE that attitude. Little thankfulness mixed with a dash of sincerity and a splash of sarcasm. You're gonna love it here!

    About Those Range Ball Buckets

Related to this. For those ranges that use buckets Iíd love to see more of us returning them when weíre done. I see ranges all the time with buckets strung around the range everywhere. Would you do that when you were a guest at someoneís house? I grab my bucket and a few others as Iím making my way back. If just a few of us did so no one would run out of baskets, the practice area would look nicer and be safer. It might even keep the lid on range ball prices as the facility wouldnít have to pay someone to go fetch all the buckets left strewn around.

Last night I went to Jason's Deli and had the salad bar. I noticed a lot of people grabbing things from the salad bar even though they did not pay for it. I believe they had bought other food and they were supplementing the meal with a lil something extra.

    I have questions:

    Are these people scum?

    Should I tell the management?

Should I have confronted them and asked to see the salad bar receipt?

    Should I call the police?

Is it okay to eat pickles and muffins only from the salad bar but everything else is strictly prohibited unless you paid for a salad bar?

Do you know the muffin man?

I just sat quietly and enjoyed my salad, is that okay?

IF I knew for sure they were grazing, I'd ask an employee well within earshot of the grazers if the salad bar was free with any purchase or if you were supposed to pay extra for it.

Passive aggressive works best most any time.

Maybe Iím alone, but Iíve just got no time to fret over what everyone else is doing, particularly if itís not effecting me. Thereís too much going on in my own life to worry about what everyone else is doing as well.

Maybe look at it from the perspective of supporting a local business rather than from a right vs wrong standpoint?

There’s a family owned course near my house. Great place, been in their family two generations and working on a 3rd.

There are usually some leftover range balls on the tees when I get there. I pay for mine anyway just to support them.

Maybe I’m over sensitive to that since I was a young musician trying to feed my family when Napster showed up and people decided music wasn’t worth paying for anymore. I watched kids come to the table after our show, ready to buy CDs, when one said hey no, it’s on Napster, you don’t have to pay for it...

Dunno. I guess I look at it from a perspective of “What can I do to help this family business?” as a result of that experience
Stuff I Use on the Course:
Clubs - a bag full of
    s
    Ammo - ProV1
    Bandages
    - BandAid
    Beverages - NOT Budweiser
    Excuses - Several

It does eventually affect you when the range raises their prices to cover their undetected thefts.

Our Range has 15 stalls with underground hoppers that dispense balls one at a time on a height adjustable tee. Users can hit off the tee or pull ball onto the mat if using an iron. Range balls are purchased by basket loads (sm med lg) from an automated hopper. Balls are then poured into the range mat hopper, which can hold 2 lg baskets. When a ball is hit, the hopper senses it and dispenses a new ball on the tee automatically. All neat and tidy. It is not unusual for many of the hoppers to be left 1/2 to full of range balls when golfers leave to tee off. So there are almost always free range balls for others to hit. No big deal. We also keep the range mat hoppers filled from 2 hours before every tournament, free of charge. The main thing, for us, is it looks presentable and the balls are already paid for when left to others. Those are not stolen range balls when paid for and left behind. Charging for them again would be double dipping. Fair is fair. BTW, our range ball machines can dispense balls by activation code purchased, direct credit/debit card, and magnetic key which can hold a specified dollar amount that decreases as used.

What do you do if someone walks up with half a bucket and says "here, I'm not going to hit these." It's sort of the same thing.

I don't think it's a big deal to be honest. I liken this to keeping an old cup and filling it up inside McDonalds for free (costs .01 they charge $1)'or to smuggling candy/food inside a movie theat. Not exactly armed robbery but not totally ethical either I guess
