Premier League 2011-12 season (Spoilers)

Hey guys, I´m back! Just like Tiger I went on Hiatus (is that right?) only mine was shorter.lol

LFC are travelling to Sunderland in the build-up to the Merseyside derby, pretty excited about that one!

Ok, so I´m back - what did I miss?!
Not much. City is still leading. And it looks like the champion is going to be one of the teams from Manchester. No one else is close.

No I didn´t miss the actual footy, just been absent from THP. Well, I envy the Manchester supporters - the race to win will be sick!! I´m rooting for city though as I´m sick of old rednose walking away with the title.lol

I think it will be a really bad thing for the premiership if city win this year. All it will prove is that any club can win the league once they have a billionaire consortium behind them. Same a Chelsea did a few years back.

If you think about it on a long term basis that if either Abramovich or City's backers pulled out neither clubs has the funds to be a self sustaining club.

But the teams with money have been doing that for years, Man U for one, back in the day Leeds, Wolves, Villa and then my team were once called the Bank Of England team and won a few. Money in this sport usually gets you something.

Also Chelsea have only won it 3 times since 04-05 and Abramovich has been a billionaire all that time, Man U the other times since then, so having all that money and throwing at a team does not always guarantee you win the league.

I'm happy another team has broken into the so called top 4, I just hope Tottenham can get somewhere this year too and piss off the Gunners and Bin Dippers.

I think going forward we should see a lot of pull back on money spent, what with the new FIFA rules coming into effect it should level the playing field a bit, but those with, will still do better than those with out.

Actually I don´t know if the FIFA rules will mean a thing. At first maybe, but when Man U, City, Chel, Real, et al wants to buy someone - they will. The biggest clubs have the biggest revenue, so wouldn´t that be status quo?

Oh, and remember Hazard and Neymar are fair game this summer!

Checked some: 70 % of turnover (sales?) in the new Fifa rule and next season is the first where actual sanctions can be taken against clubs who don´t break even? Is that right? So this year clubs will rather take heavy losses in order not to carry them into next fiscal year?

Any good matches on today? I might get bored watching the leaves grow out back.

I'd agree teams have been doing doing for years hell i'm a Leeds fan and we have been true some awful times. But if those rules come in City are screwed b/cos there revenue last season was £152 million while spending on players alone was over £250 million

To true and as far as I am concerned its about time something like was brought in. That is why your are seeing a lot of teams selling the naming rights to stands and grounds, too fund some other revenue stream.

As always though the real fans who watch this game are getting bent over and shafted left right and center, I'm looking forward to the day when the price point for watching a game becomes to much and people stop going, then we might see a return to some normality. Its actually happened for me, would rather play a round of golf than go to a game these days, and I am not the only one of my friends who thinks like this.

Just like you the wife is a Leeds fan, good result for you boys today beating the Smog Monster's from Middlesbrough, for the record I'am a Sunderland lad so I won't mention the 70's ;-)

Neil Warnock is a great man for Leeds, I think we might make the playoff's but I dont think we will be strong enough to be promoted. Besides Warnock is supposed to be gone again at the end of the season.

Sunderland are having a great season to be fair to them.

Not a bad manager to have at the moment, the wife was well miffed when you appointed him. I told her he's great for getting a team promoted push for the top places, but unfortunately after that he looses the plot i.e QPR. I'm not sure he is good at handling the bigger stars in a team and when things go bad he starts to blame everything but himself.

As for us, yes a great turn around since the Mrs Doubtfire (Steve I ate all the pies Bruce) was sacked and Martin O'Neill got the job, feet firmly on the ground though because this is Sunderland we are talking about.

Anyway for a great insight on a new premiership club (QPR) and how it all works behind the scenes, try and download "The Four Year Plan" a great bit of TV for anyone.

I think Lee Clarke would have been a better choice for Leeds. 42 games unbeaten with Huddisfield 3pts off automatic promotion and he gets the sack come on !!!

Thanks i'll have a look for that.

Smalls sorry the threadjacking with talk about championship teams

City looked like crap today. I wish they had won, but they didn't deserve too. United takes the lead by one point.

They sure did. I Was very let down

We should rename this thread "The Official Euro's (and Smalls) Can Talk Here Comfortably Thread"

Steve Gerrard Gerrard

Steve Gerrard Gerrard.

What a player! Privileged to have seen his best years in my youth. In 40 years time they'll be talking about him as one of the top players of his generation and definitely the best English player of his generation.

Shocking to see Fabrice Muamba collapse during the FA Cup tie between Bolton and Spurs. The reports are that he is "critically ill" in hospital. Let's hope and pray that he makes a recovery. Really puts things into perspective.

You get sick just watching players collapsing like he did, you just know immediately its really bad. Thoughts and prayers to Muamba! I hope he pulls through.

Always a shock when something like this happens. Here's the latest thing I found: http://www.3news.co.nz/Latest-Hospi...rrest/tabid/415/articleID/247250/Default.aspx

Latest: Hospital confirms Fabrice Muamba suffered cardiac arrest

MON, 19 MAR 2012 10:41P.M.

The London Chest Hospital has confirmed Bolton’s Fabrice Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest during Sunday morning’s FA Cup match with Tottenham.
The 23-year-old midfielder is in a critical but stable condition in intensive care after he collapsed during the quarter final at White Hart Lane. The match was subsequently abandoned.

A statement released by both the hospital and Bolton Wanderers confirmed Muamba was in an anaesthetised state in intensive care.

“Fabrice Muamba remains in a critical condition in intensive care in the Heart Attack Centre at The London Chest Hospital,” the statement read.
"He was admitted to the hospital yesterday evening after collapsing at White Hart Lane, where he sustained a cardiac arrest during the FA Cup Quarter Final against Tottenham Hotspur.

"Fabrice received prolonged resuscitation at the ground and on route to The London Chest Hospital, where his heart eventually started working. As is normal medical practice, Fabrice remains anaesthetised in intensive care and will be for at least 24 hours.
"His condition continues to be closely monitored by the cardiac specialists at the hospital."

Always a shock when something like this happens.

Update from the BBC Smallville and its a little bit of good news - Fabrice Muamba shows 'small signs of improvement'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17419654

Fabrice Muamba's heart condition is "showing small signs of improvement" following his cardiac arrest.
A Bolton statement said: "His heart is now beating without the help of medication and he is also moving his arms and legs...... more

Though its not much and he's got an uphill battle to recovery, I'll take any bit of good news, terrible what happened and it shows the lad has fight in him.

Small steps lead to big strides, you can do it!

As a United fan this makes me sick but CHELSEA CHELSEA CHELSEA!!! GET IT DONE TODAY!!! I would like to stay 4 points clear at the top of the table.

Half time and it's a poor enough game, Lampard gifted Balotelli a chance and even if Cech didn't put a hand on it, it was still going wide. Can't see this game getting any better
