Courses in your Area

Birdwood, Keswick Hall, and Old Trail would be the local courses that I would like to check out. Farther out would be Kingsmill (a couple other in Williamsburg) and the Homestead

http://www.wannamoisett.com. Wannamoisett country club. Unfortunately, it is a private course less than a mile from my store. A bunch of my customers are members but they all seem to be pretty protected about it!

What are the courses in your area that you most want to play but have not had the opportunity yet?

For me its Newport National and Granite Links in Boston. Two premier courses in my area, not to mention TPC Boston.

I say Augusta National for me .

Newport National is awesome! I played there about 6 weeks ago. Probably the best course I have played.

Luckily where I work has some benefits. Looking forward to crossing Pine Valley and Merion East off sometime in the next 12 mos.

Holy crap that is awesome. Wow.

I want to play Bethpage which is near me house in NJ. In terms of being in SC, I want to play Harbor Town and Kiawah at some point even if they aren't that close.

Pilgrim's Run, Thousand Oaks, Hawkshead, and Macatawa Legends would be the feasible ones (public and affordable).

I could go on forever though. Good thing I have 70 years or so!

Los Angeles country club: www.thelacc.org
One of the few places that do not allow celebrity members and despite many requests have shot down hosting a major. Riviera and Bel Air would be the two others.

The biggest one that is close for me would be Old Memorial. I also would love to play Seminole but that is quite a bit less likely to happen.

Probably Trump natl in West Palm Beach, The Breakers resort, the dream course would be The Bears Club in Jupiter.

I've got a good friend who works down in PBG that gets us onto the Breakers course all the time when I visit. If I'm down there before the end of the year and he's free, I'll see what I can do man. It's a fun little course

This one. I drive by it so much and I get all grumpy cause I haven't played there yet.

I'm annoyed I didn't jump at the chance to play it this summer, it was just a little too much coin for me at the time.

I know. The rate you told me was a great price for it, just not when it's not in the current budget. We'll get on there one day. THP invitational would be a great time....

Well I guess you would have to say Hazeltine if you are from these parts but the two I really want to play and The Legend and The Quarry at Giants ridge. Two of the top 100 courses and they are way up on the iron range.

Check em out: http://www.giantsridge.com/golf/

1.Whisling straights
2.Black wolf run
3.The Bull
and maybe a few others just not willing to spend $150 and up i can have just as much fun playing a $40 course. Maybe some day since they are all only 1/2 hr.down the road...

Fyre Lake National http://www.flngc.com/ , a Nicklaus design that never opened do to some shennanigans (alledged) with the financing by the original developers. Course is complete but clubhouse never built and the only people who have played it were 12 families that bought lots on the property and built houses, they got three months of play in before bank foreclosed. My wife took lessons from the pro and I was on the verge of asking if he would take us around the course for a round when he announced he just lost his job as the bank had foreclosed and layed off all staff that were not needed to keep fairways and greens up. Drove out and looked at it early this summer and fairways and greens are immaculate, perfectly manicured and ready for play but every thing else is going to weeds. Pretty crazy as you drive around looking at this great course just waiting for new buyers to put in the finishing touches and open it up, hopefully soon.

I have quite a few that I'd like to play in driving distance.

1. Pebble Beach
2. Cypress Point
3. Valley Club of Montecito
4. Olympic Club
5. Riviera CC
6. Pasatiempo
7. Sherwood CC
8. LA country club

There are a lot more, but these are more the elusive/exclusive ones. I hope to cross off Pasatiempo in 2013.

That's a good one, Don. I was so excited when that place was about to open and now it's just sitting there waiting to die. Hopefully it gets buyers.

Thanks to Lefty78 for bumping this. I got to check out a whole bunch of courses last night which is one of my favorite things to do.

I might have an "in" at Wannamoisett...

Newport National is on my short list too, lets plan to play it next summer!

Also on the list are:
Newport CC
RI CC - Home of CVS Classic
The country Club in Broookline
Weston GC
and Carnegie Abbey in Portsmouth

Only one left that really intrigues me "The Prairie Club". Way beyond my means, but said to be up there with all the greatest courses (was listed as #11 in the US at one point).

They claim its virtually impossible to get on there without some pull and its only a couple hours west of my house. I've also heard its been a past favorite getaway of Michael Jordans and several other big name athletes.

I spent an hour checking this place out last night and I think you have to get over there. They published daily rates and sell packages. Expensive though.

There is a short course they call "Horse" that has 10 holes and no tee boxes. You can just choose where to tee off and play a game of horse with your buddies. How cool.

Duey,

My friend just got back from playing Prarie Dunes. Him and his very wealthy father may be joining soon. He said it was absolutely unreal and it is a must visit
