Mallet or Blade putter?

Thanks Harry...wasn't sure if bucket pics were allowed here. Won't take long to accumulate 25 posts with all the threads going here. Nice stand-out outfit in your avatar by the way.

We actually prefer all pictures to be hosted elsewhere.

Wanted to bump this old thread as so many have joined THP and find out their thoughts on the subject. I have been going back and forth recently as I get used to the new greens of my new course.

I had a Tommy Armour mallet that came with my bag but it was a serious POS. I love this putter. I can get it down with it.

i tend to go with a mallet for the stability and they look cooler

i'm in the market for a new putter right now and will be pursuing a blade style putter. i've been playing a nike bc 101 for the past couple of years. i've demo'd several mallet putters but just don't like them. they tend to remind me of the millenium falcon. it's never good to be thinking about chewbacca when you're putting for birdie!

 exactly! :thumb: They are fugly!

I always preferred the look of a blade, but I knew a mallet would help me in the end.

So i got an Odyssey Black i #7. I hit really really well. Today while at Austads, I decided to hit their White Ice series in a blade putter. I was on fire w/ that club. Went 13/14 from bout 10-15 feet on a putting mat thinger. I cant afford 2 putters at this time though

I own 5 or 6 putters, all mallets. I prefer either an old Carbite ZG mallet or my Oddessey #7.

ive had more mallets than blades..in fact, my ping is the first blade i got, and ive stuck with it..

i find i can keep it on line better than any of the mallets ive had. think a blade just suits my natural putting style.

to give an idea:
Ping G2 craz-e
TM rossa something (had weights in it)
wilson kirk currie IV - this one was almost there...
had another one recently..but for the life of me cant put a name to it just now...maybe it will come back to me...

I have always played blade... have been using odyssey white hot #1 for a while now.

I was using a mallet for a while when I started, but now using an Odyssey White Hot XT #1 blade. I -love it-!

Of the hundreds of putters I've tried this one is IT for Me. Easy to line up, great feel and after I took off the crappy Scotty grip and put on a Golf Pride New Decade, it's PERFECT. Not saying I won't try others, but My urge to try others has certainly died down quite a bit. The last 2 I tried were a Scotty Fastback and a Studio Select Newport 2.5, neither lasted long.

My two favs...

playing a blade right now,

seems to me like I have better aim with a mallet, but i seem to have worse distance control with a mallet

I think distance control is more important than aim control, so I continue with the blade

I loved my old Carbite ZH "polar balanced" putter. It was a blade, but on short putts it was money.

That's a gorgeous putter LBlack.

I'm currently playing a Rife 2-bar mallet. Yes, it does look like spaceship, but I like the way it looks. pbbt!

Started playing with a mallet but recently switched to a blade. Loving the feel and response better. I'm playing with the NC XRay Tau.

Until I get better and feel more comfortable with my putting, my mallet putter does the job!

Mine is a cross-pollinated hybrid of semi-mallet. Has features of both, but for me it works better than either.

Note that the cylinder weights are not attached directly to the blade of the hitting face. Despite its appearance, it is not a heavy putter. The main body is aluminum, and the cylinders are stainless steel. It has an insert in the face, and is face balanced with a center shaft.

I'm using a blade style Heavy Putter (Boccieri Golf)... I think it is called the Stealth model because the head looks like a stealth bomber... The weight really helped take my wrists out of my swing. Since I started using this putter I am much more consistent.

I prefer a blade; It feels easier to maneuver and I like the simplicity/simpler design to it.

I`m a centre shafted mallet man.It seems logical to me that a centre shafted design with peripheral and rear weighting would afford the best pendulum like stroke and greatest resistance to twisting on off centre strikes.
I use a Sizemore SM-1 centre shaft which is the best rolling mallet I`ve ever used.It also has great interchangeable alignment and rear weighting. It is just a superb putter design.I use a small Macro grip and go left hand low.I`ve never played with anyone else using these grips but it`s made me deadly accurate from inside 10 feet.

I prefer mallets, but JB already knew that. I've never done well with blade-style putters. For me, the mallet looks right, and they have a better aiming system since there is more area to work with.

Same for me, I just putt butter with mallets. I havent bought a blade style putter in a long long time. I love the alignment built into the new mallet putters.

I seem to strongly prefer blade putters, and I don't even know why...

I am not consciously closed-minded about it , but even when I am just at the golf-store, trying the new putters on the little practice green, I won't even pick up a mallet putter. :confused2:
