    Ball Position for Hybrid clubs

Andy -- I had seen a few post on here with folks having a problem with topping or chunking hybrid golf clubs. Heck I prefer hybrids over long irons however some times I slip away from the correct setup. I don't want to give false advice so I figured you could help all of us with the proper swing, setup, ball position etc. for consistant ball striking with a hybrid type club.

    Thanks,
    ole gray

Gray, I would like the setup with the hybrids to be like that of a long iron. I would like the ball up in the front third of the stance to start. I would like you to feel like you hit down into the ball like you would with an iron versus the sweep type feel you get with the woods.

For the thin and fat shots most of these happen when the ball gets too far back in the setup.

I am having the same problems Ole Gray is having. I had been using the tour striker a lot lately which has helped a ton with my 7 iron - PW but I can't hit the hybrid any more which used to be a go to club. Is there something different in how much you have your hands in front at impact or flattening the plane besides ball position? Ole Gray if I remember from a different post had you been using the tour striker also? Curious if that has caused issues for you as well here. Thanks

Sethg -- I have not used my tour striker during the colder months so I think my issue has been ball placement. Andy hit the nail on the head. When I have the ball set in the correct part of my stance and strike down and through it, the magic comes back. I am pounding my hybrids now so the cure for me, is definitely related to correct ball position.

I agree. I play my hybrid just like I would the iron it replaced.

I've experimented with the ball placement on my hybrid quite a bit. I've found that I get a bit more control and lower trajectory moving it back in my stance near the middle of it.

I am confused. Some say up and some say back in your stance. I started the year hitting my hybrids but now they have lost their "mojo". So I thought I would start all over again but I am confused on where to put the ball. Thanks for your input.

I would go with what Andy replied to OG in the above post, that is the way the pro wants it done. I know there is more than one way to skin a cat, but I would try out Andy's suggestion based on that is how he makes his living.

Reading this will give me some help. I hit my mashie real low a few times today and im pretty sure i had it to far forward like i was setting up a wood. It was a rough day with the heat and the gnats and that may have taken my focus away from the basics. I will devote a day at the range to dial this club in because the good hits i had carried straighter and farther than my wood.
