Working through my bag, as a few know on here I am thinking about making changes. Strictly to the long side as a few clubs have come out recently and are probably going in the bag.

So with that said, I wanted to hear from THPers on their long side of the bag gapping and the thought that went into it. So starting with driver, can you breakdown your gaps and clubs from longest to say 5 iron?

I’m not a bomber - my driver is 230-240 on average, 5W is around 220 off the tee or 200-205 off the deck; Super Hybrid is about 190, 5H around 180, then to the 5i about 170.
(All assuming well struck shots, which definitely isn’t a certainty in my game!)

Surprised that my 2h and 3w are about the same. Never noticed that before.

Driver 300
3 Wood 260
18* Hybrid 240
4 iron 215
5 iron 200

It would be nice to have a little better gap from the hybrid to the 4 iron but I don’t hit the 4 that often so it doesn’t really matter.

Driver 260-310
3 wood: 230-270.
3 hyrbid: 230-290
4 iron:220-250
5 iron 200-235

driver is on the hot seat and can’t wait to get to Carlsbad to see what the fitters there have in store for me. With how my gapping works I should be able to flirt with 325 on my best drives but this year I’ve been lucky to get to 300 on good drives. I play a 10* this year as opposed to a 9 last year which would give me more roll but I need the extra control.

not entirely sure why I even have 3 wood at this point I only ever use it on longer par 5s that I think I need more roll out on. Seriously considering moving to a legit driving iron in that position. Tour edge driving iron is on the watch list.

the b-21 hyrbid has made that portion of my bag obsolete with how far I can hit it off the tee. I use this club everywhere and am lost on the course if I am not hitting it well.

My 4 iron I use for 240-250 on holes I need some spin into the green on. Catch it thin more often than my 5 iron so it doesn’t get used as they can go similar distance.

my 5 iron is my current go to off the tee in safety situations, and has been a good weapon for me. Smooth swings have me carrying 200 easy with this club with a nice controlled draw.

I’m somewhere in the average of 275-285yd area off the tee. The 3W I usually pull for the 235-250 range, my hybrid gets me 215-230 and then the 5i lands me in the 205-210 spot.

i go 5i, 4h, 5w, driver.

my gaps really tighten at the top. that’s a me thing not swinging correctly. when i do, the gaps are much better.

How much gap do you think is in between driver, 5w, 4h and 5i?

Driver.
3w that goes as far as possible, 2nd tee club if needed.
Hybrid around 225
Driving iron/utility that goes low and with roll maybe 240ish
5i around 205-210

off the deck 5i 190-200. 4h 200-210. 5w 215-230.

off the tee add 10-15 yards to each, and driver is 240-270 depending.

Driver is about 220.

Here the thing with my wood and hybrid, I don't tend to hit them well and I broke my 6i earlier this season. That was the reason I was looking for a new iron set before the budget experience win.

3w is 180 or so, I have hit it almost 200 but it's the outlier.

5h isn't even in the discussion, I can't seem to hit it more than 150.

7i is also 150.

Which means the reality of my gaps are 220, 180, 150 on the top of the bag.

I just bought a Big Bertha driver so I expect my driver to go up a bit, that will be compensated by getting a t300 4 iron.

My next big looks are going to be in the wood /hybrid area, those Cleveland ones sound very tempting.

Driver - Avg carry of like 250 ish
3 wood- 230
Then it gets weird and what I’m trying to fix this year. I have:
21* hybrid (high flight not sure distance)
22* hybrid (lower but carries around 205)
Then my 5 iron.
I really want to clean up and get more specific yardages or better known yardages in my 3w through 5 iron spots.

Biggest gap is driver to 5w - it’s about a 20 yard gap. Can’t explain except I stink?

Driver 300
3W 275
3 driving iron about 245-250
4I 225ish
5I 215ish

Approximate/average gaps - top down:
Driver to 4W - 10-30 /250
4W to 5W - 10 - 20 /240
5W to 7W - 10 - 20 /230
7W to 5i - 10 - 20 /220

Mine is pretty good right now. I could probably get a little more pop from a 5H than a 5I and make it perfect.

I get pretty inconsistent with yardages at the top end of the bag, so range could be +/- 20 yards or more - especially with the driver.

9.5* Driver - 290
11.5* Mini Driver - 275
17* Super Hybrid - 260
20* Hybrid - 240 (or 20* Utility Iron - 235)
23* 5i - 205

The 20* spot has been frustratingly difficult to rely on from the fairway. Too much yardage variance, and too many hook misses. Probably going to try the new Epic Super Hybrid in that spot next year.

Interested in seeing what you do as having been able to play with you, the 2 driver situation was working well.

Personally I go:

Driver - Figure 230ish carry, 250 total.
3W - need to figure out actual distance because I have not used it enough to get accurate numbers, but thinking 215-220 carry, 230 total.
7W - 200 carry, 210-215 total
5H - 185 carry, not as worried about total, but around 195-200 if I am using it as a layup/off the tee.
5I - 175 carry

For me, always want minimum of 10 yard carry gap all the way through the bag, want about 12 on irons wedges, near driver want it to be more of a 15 yard gap.

I also don't mind a little larger carry gap between my wedges because I don't mind hitting partial shots with them that can help to cover gaps.

Driver 295
3 wood 270
2 hybrid 245
Driving iron 230
4 iron 215
5 iron 200

would love to redo some of my long irons too!

It really continues to work well too. The issue I am struggling with is, is it worth carrying a 2nd driver, when a couple of clubs give me close to the same distance with some more versatility? Or can I keep the 2nd driver and finagle my way into a different setup, which is where I am leaning towards right now. Its a lot of fun trying though.

Just looked and I’ve clearly got some work to do in the 5i spot. I don’t have confidence in the club and only pull it for punch shots. I didn’t put my 4i into the bag.

I also recently swapped out my Mizuno MP-18 SC 6i and 7i for Callaway Apex 19 7i and 8i respectively. The lofts seem to translate well, and the Apex 19 are much more forgiving while still looking beautiful at address.

This is what Arccos has to say.

Do the other clubs give you the same confidence off the tee as the 2nd driver? If yes then it is a no brainer to replace. If not... well need a lot of versatility that you are going to use a decent amount during a regular round to make a change IMHO based on how well you have played that 2nd driver.

I have horrible gapping at the top of the bag and I know it. Currently my 3 wood and I aren't on speaking terms and haven't been for a while.

Driver - 230
3H - 180
5H - 170
6i - 150

Driver : 210-220
3wood : 190-200
4hybd : 175-180
5 iron : 160-170
Pretty cut & dried, everything fills in the next gap (please don't be intimidated by the yardages :D
