PING G25 Irons - THP Preview

I always like hearing that I'm not crazy! Kidding, but I do lack words for shaft descriptions at times.

Not even close to crazy dude.

I look forward to taking some swings with these at the Outing, I've never been big on the G-series, but these look better than ALL the past G-lines IMO.

Assuming I don't run off to South America with them, they'll be there for you to take some whacks with!

As it seems I do, I got a little apprehensive putting a new set of irons in the bag, but I think the transition has gone pretty good so far. I do believe I'll lose a few yards in the long irons, but outside that, they've been very easy to hit from the get-go.

I Hit them for the first time today. Hit a demo 7 Iron. I really liked the flight seemed to be higher than my current irons and easier to get up in the air. The clubs look huge compared to my current Taylormade R7's. Which is a big confidence boost. Think I will be making a change this spring to G25 or JPX 800,825 Pros.

Welcome to THP Bust. Thanks for chiming in!

3 different sets of irons in 18 months but after playing with the 25's Saturday I've found my keepers .
they really are easy to hit just point & strike .
very consistent .
love em to bits

Definitely seeing that the best swings I've taken with the mid and longer irons are carrying around 4-7 yards short of my best swings with my other irons. However, not going to really complain about that so much as the distance was still what I'd consider good to very good. The 5 iron is so easy to hit. Launches high, spins good, and just seems easy to get flush on the ball. Very nice feel - definitely softer or more traditional than the slotted irons. The dark finish is very sexy too.

That being said, still need time and more swings. Hard to judge them so early on against a set I've become very comfortable with over a period of months.

Any early thoughts on the shafts Hawk?

Any early thoughts on the shafts Hawk?

They are stiffer than the Tour 90's I'm playing, but not by much. They offer very similar launch angles and spin numbers for me though. For the most part, control is good too. Just lacking a little ball speed it seems, but I don't know where that's coming from. Still, we're not talking much.

Have been intrigued by this thread and reading everything about these irons. Hawk, do you think the few less yards your talking about have to do with the differences in the lofts of those irons compared to the rockebladez? Just curious. Also, thanks so much for all the great info. I purchased the i20's about a year ago and I have to say I just have not felt like there right for me. Enjoy reading all your input and I'm looking forward to giving these a go. I btw love the look of the G25's

I'm honestly not sure. I can actually get very similar numbers to the RocketBladez out of my 588 CB's/KBS Tours (bent 2° strong) on good strikes and they are lofted pretty closely to the G25's. The difference there of course becomes forgiveness.

I tend to adjust slowly to irons, so I'm going to give it a little time here I think. It could have just been a couple sub-par nights with my swing too.

Thanks again Hawk. Look forward to reading your updates!

Any time. Appreciate the questions!

Thank you Hawk. I have been reading on this site for six months and figured it would def be worth joining. Great site with the kind of information every golfer wants from every day people you meet on the course to specialists that do full reviews.

Awesome. Definitey check it out if you can. Only requirement is that it's for Albatross Club members. The past Invitationals have been a lot of fun for our readers.

Sorry for the multiple posts. I have come to the conclusion that after I post it takes a couple minutes for the thread to show it and by then I have already written another post. Sorry :banghead:

Nothing to worry about there.

really thinking about putting the kbs tour black nickel shafts in these .... wonder what they would look like. Trying to go the all murdered out look in my ping bag

Hey judge may I ask your opinion, thoughts, on these irons?

Lefty,

Well I have my i20's on ebay if that means anything to you. There's nothing wrong with the i20's i've had them since they came out. They are great irons i just needed something with more forgiveness. I almost felt bad since i was going back to a game improvement iron, but man was i glad i checked my ego and went to these. I have gotten about 10-15 rounds with these now and starting to dial in my yardages with these. The short irons seems to be on par with the i20's but I've lost 4-7 yrs with 4-7 irons. Ive talked to edwin watts ( who i bought them from) and they think I'm launching it just a bit too high, i find that weird since the i20's are 1* more for instance the 4i g25 is 23* and the 4i i20 is 24* . But they said that they could hardstep them for me which would lower the launch but i was wondering if i should just get them bent 1-2* in the longer irons to make up for the lost distance. At address they look good, i really like the dark finish and the heads are slightly larger. You cant see the sole until the 4i if that matters. The sound is about the same, a nice crisp "thwack". On miss hits its not as noticable as the 20's imo, these clubs just want to go straight. The guys that work in edwin watts said that there are alot of peolpe getting these since they look alot better than the g20's and they said these clubs can be for any1 from a scratch to a high handicapper. I know that there are people that are loyal to their brands but i tried almost every iron they had in the store and was in-between the callaway xhots, mizuno 825's and the g25's and ended up the the pings since i liked the dark look and the way they felt off the grass. These are great irons and i dont think i will be changing clubs anytime in the near future. But the only thing that i could add is go by edwin watts or a store like that, that will let you demo the 7i and take it to the range and see what its like. I personally hate hitting in front of launch monitors and screens and like to see what it does on the grass, from there is where i make my opinion.

Sorry for my rambling, but i hope it made some sense :)

also i like the reviews this guy does, he pretty much nails it imo

and a comparison from the i20's to g25's
