I don't remember my 1st.
Favorites:
Willie Nelson-Sportatorium in Dallas circa 1970's
Beausoleil-many times, many places
John Prine-same as above
Alison Krause-a few times
Don Williams, a few times

1st concert was Van Halen on the 5150 tour with Bachman Turner Overdrive opening up. My favorite concert would definitely be Jimmy Buffet, second fave would be The Who.

Sorry - I think it was the New Haven Coliseum.

do you remember what year? sorry...Im a retarded deadhead and love to hear about other peoples show experiences.

1978 maybe? I'm sorry I don't remember and it might have been the old Hartford Civic Center.

I do remember sleeping out for Dead tickets once. My mother called my school and told them that's why I would be late. It did not go over big with the nuns.

I was talking to a friend who was a teenager in the late 60s. I'm jealous because he got to see a lot of bands/artists in small venues. By the time I was old enough to go to concerts - they were playing arenas. My first concert was the Grateful Dead. The best show I ever saw was the Nirvana Unplugged taping for MTV. What was your first show and your favorite?

(Sorry Craig if I'm starting a new version of an old thread.)

The Who and The Rolling Stones. But geez, for some reason I can't seem to remember a whole lot of detail.

That's OK, they don't either.

Best small venue gig (less than 500 attendees, in my estimation) was Annihilator, in the early nineties, I think. I couldn't convince any of my friends to join me, so I went alone. The sound was just ****ing great! Jeff Waters sounded sooo good! And there was some stage-diving going on at the front! And despite the hurdle of the high sound-levels, I managed to not leave alone.......:bananadance:

Wow, judging from the other posts I am def a young gun but here goes:

1st show EVER was NIV and POD, some highschool auditorium circa 1997 in SD. (What is really funny is that NIV's guitarsts now plays with POD)

Best show I have ever been to is a tie b/w a last minute Demon Hunter smal lvenue acoustic show in some church in downtown SD and the AFI I Heard A Voice Live Show in Long Beach. If you listen really carefully you might hear me on the song: The Missing Frame.......lol...............!

And yes I am a card carrying member of The Despair Faction (AFI's street team/fanclub, blog, forum, etc).

I don't know who was my first show. My parents used to take me to a bunch of concerts when I was young (under 10) that I don't really remember. I went to the Grand Ole Opry (real exciting for a 10 year old in the early 70's) I think the first was Elvis (saw him 3 times). Hard to say which was the best but the top ones were: Rolling Stones, Jimmy Buffett, Garth Brooks, Kiss, U2, The Who, Eagles, Pink Floyd, Van Halen.

Living in Austin I see lots of live music and many are in smaller venues. We are fortunate to have so much live music here.

Poison at the Spectrum in Philly. Hair bands rule! lol

Black Oak Arkansas was a local band when I was in college before they hit it big. Jim Dandy and crew used to be called "Nobody Else" and played at my college dances. Years later, my son was a rock singer and played with Black Oak's drummer's son in a HS band. Weird connections.

Last night takes it for me... beating out some pretty special shows previously (Metallica with the symphony, one of the last Stone Temple Pilots shows)

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concert at MSG - specifically, Simon & Garfunkel and Springsteen

Wow - you went - lucky you. I heard a review on the radio this morning - 6 hour show and that last night was only part 1.

Lucky. I would have loved to see him but he had been dead like 7 years before I was born.

My first concert was Tracy Lawrence, Confederate Railroad, and George Jones. At the time TL and CR had just come out and were no names.

My all time favorite is either Toby Keith or Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ted Nugent, Deep Purple. I think the Skynyrd, Nugent, Deep Purple concert takes it. I actually enjoyed it so much I seen them in 2 different cities in 3 nights.

We went to the U-2 concert out at our local swamp/football stadium last weekend. We have a Garth Brooks show coming up. There are always some "oldie moldie" groups showing up at the local casinos for nominal ticket prices. Before the U-2 concert the last show we saw were the ZZ Top/Areosmith guys.

I've got tickets for tonight too - I'm very lucky. I haven't seen Metallica in years, so I'm pretty psyched about that. To be honest, though, I don't know how it'll measure up to last night! Plus it's really unfortunate that Clapton had to cancel, that was the set I was most looking forward to out of both nights!

Crazy enough my two favorite shows I had ever seen were both Beastie Boys shows. They are not my favorite band but their shows were awesome. Frst was around 1997 I saw them at McNichols Arena in Denver. They were touring for Intergalactic. Such energy.
The second was in Las Vegas at the House of Blues. Day of the show I walked by the House of Blues and saw their name on the marquis saying they were playing that night. Walked up to the ticket window and they said they were sold out but somebody returned two tickets just minutes ago. Snagged and went to the show. It was the Jam Master Jay tribute show following his death. Awesome to see them in such a small room.

Were all the special guests surprises or did you know in advance? I wonder who else will perform tonight.

Most are announced in advance - tonight, I know about Lou Reed and Ozzy w/ Metallica, and Annie Lennox and Lenny Kravitz with Aretha.
I believe Jeff Beck is filling in for Clapton (much like the Yardbirds!!) since he pulled out after getting minor surgery.

Last night, Billy Joel was a HUGE surprise, as were Tom Morello and John Fogerty.

Jeff Beck is a classic and he still rocks today in his 60's. I DVR'd "Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's" which was a Palladia special and I've watched it several times since. The lineup he had was outstanding: Vinnie Colaiuta (who's one of my top 5 favorite drummers), Tal Wilkenfeld on bass (only 20 at the time and only playing the bass since she was 15 or so) and Jason Rebello on keys.

Also, Joss Stone, Imogen Heap and some guy named Clapton also appeared.

Great stuff!
