How do you shoot in raw?

Not sure what camera you have. If you have a slr, then it should be one of the picture quality settings. If its a point and shoot, not all have the capability to shoot RAW.

As mentioned earlier, check your manual if you are unsure.

I have a couple, an older film Nikon and a new Digital Nikon. I'll read the manuals and see what the process is. Thanks guys.

Photography is an awesome hobby. I love my d3100 but it'll be a casualty to helping my folks with their bills. I've learned so much about this camera from shooting on manual and just seeing what works.

I have been a photographer since 1980 and I say put the camera down pick up your clubs and go golfing.

Ahhh, raw vs jpeg...it's like that one odd sock that just wont go away. Debated by photographers everywhere over and over and over again.

Think of raw as a negative that you can take into post processing and change whatever you'd like but it also needs that post processing (developing) or it's not going to look right so it's more time consuming. Jpeg, the camera does that processing for you and is meant to be used straight out of the camera with little or no post editing.

Think of it like ordering a sandwich at a restaurant. Jpeg is the sandwich the waitress brings you. Raw is being able to take your sandwich back into the kitchen, change the wheat bread for rye, add some tomatoes, take off the sauce, pile more meat on, remove half the pickles etc.

Which one you use is up to you and what you want out of your photography. Experiment with both and see what one fits you the best.

I got into photography in college. I was a communications major and took classes ranging from basic to advanced photo, with digital and film photo mixed in. I used my mother's Cannon while I was in school. I'm still waiting to get my own to shoot more regularly.

Picked up my other hobby some months ago. Used to shoot pictures with my Canon EOS500 (film), and bought some digital pockets like Powershot G2 and Ixus860IS. Those pockets were doing fine, easy to carry (i.e in my golf bag), no hassle, but felt a bit limited. So waited last spring for the release of the Canon700D and Nikon D7100. The Nikon did the job best for me, little more pricey than the Canon, but a bunch of options and it is suited with 2 sd card slots. I also got the "standard" Nikkor 18-105 lense and added a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lense (for indoors and difficult light situations), and a UV- and a polarizer filter. Set the camera on fixed ISO 100 (if light is an issue, I set it to auto-ISO limited to 800) and RAW 14-bits. Number of AF points is depending on the subject. Use Lightroom 4 for processing the RAW files.

This is what I shot last Sunday:

Great picture. I also have the D7100. I love it. I have an array of lens and love taking random pictures.

Photography.....

Photography.....

I'm surprised there are not more photography enthusiasts. There are so many lost photo ops around the world, waiting for someone to capture them.

Next to golf, photography is my passion. Both terrestrial and extra-terrestrial. I carry camera most everywhere and snap hundreds of pictures.

Mt Rainier.... when she's out, she's majestic.

I actually had the above photo printed on canvas and sold 400 copies @ $125 ea.

I just dabble a bit in photography. Nursing a bad elbow and haven't played golf or even thought about it for over a month.

Rugby or soccer what do you like?
