A poll with choices to vote for?

Then what happens if only about 25 people vote? And location is no where near the people that are voting?
The goal is to interpret and gauge interest while involving in conversation of location.

Does THP have a lot of west coast members? I honestly don't know and most of the guys I notice seem to be on the east coast or mid west.

Amazing courses and areas out that way I would be down for a little travel depending in the logistics

There are a fair number of us here

I really think that the amount of choices and loging around the Monterey area would be perfect plus not as many traffic issues as SoCal

I am interested. I am just not very knowledgeable on AZ and California golf. I have played 2 courses in California (Pebble Beach and Bayonet). Three if you count Primm Valley Lakes, which is basically a Vegas course that happens to be in California. Zero in Arizona.

I would love to have an excuse to go play in that part of the country.

The answer is yes. And there is definitely a LOT of readers from the west coast.
However they are not as active as those in the midwest and east.

How should one measure interest?
Apparently my comment came off the wrong way. Sorry about that, JB. I will try again in a slightly different way: I hope there is more interest than what is indicated by the level of activity in this thread. I am very interested, though I am a little challenged to participate in the thread since I don't know any resort courses in the designated areas.

Agreed brother. I gotcha. Im sure if interest is there, guys will chime in with different thoughts, locations, etc.

Let's see if we can spur some activity.

It isn't inconceivable that a resort/casino request could have been made because it will be a SO / spouse friendly event (to state the obvious, I know less than nothing so take it with a grain of salt). So how about some places where our SO's would have a great time, too?

As much as I would love a 2-day event at Torrey anmd play North and South, I sincerely doubt the powers that be could make it happen considering is a muni and has no problem with filling tee times.

La Costa and Aviara would be awesome. I will throw out another option, Hotel Del Coronado and Coronado Golf Course would make a great weekend.

I'm excited about the prospect of something else on the West Coast. I just haven't played enough courses to have any suggestions. I like the idea of something in the San Diego area a lot.

Since people are struggling with courses and so many have been named, I might have an idea coming up later to spur some growth on it.
Stay tuned.

Starr Pass resort in Tucson, AZ is amazing. Great course as well. Beautiful facility.

Troon North looks spectacular. Wish I had gotten to actually play the course, but the CPC alone is highly impressive.

Because winter. :)

Actually, often times I get to a thread and much of what I would say has been said, so I throw in a thank you here or there. Not sure if that counts as active, nor do I think I speak for all West Coasters. That being said, I'd have done a lot more traveling this had I a) been able to take time off and b) actually get into an event!

I'm totally curious what JB & MikeDean has to say about these events from an organizing perspective: IMO, for a THP event, the course has to be within a short driving distance from the hotel or be a part of the resort. Logistically things just get crazy for a multi-day event if you don't have enough people driving there. (I think this is why Las Vegas worked well and why a West Coast event could work well.) I would also think the hotel would have to have quality facilities or restaurants enough to make the meals also note-worthy. Cost has to be reasonable, especially for those who are flying with the added cost. (Seriously, look at the cost difference from say, CHI to LAX or SAN v. CHI to MRY. Heck even SAC.)

I think you look at just those requirements, and lots of areas and courses start dropping off the list.

Looking forward to it.

When I saw this thread pop up a few weeks ago I was excited. It quickly filled up with the best locations in CA. I did not respond, because I had no new locals to add. Does that mean I'm not interested, heck no.

As for west coast THPers, we're here. Not as vocal as others across the country, but I would bet the numbers are similar to other states.

West Coast Golf

I never played any resort courses when I was out there last but I truly enjoyed Torrey Pines and Arroyo Trabuco which were the two that I did get a chance to play

Keep in mind number is relevant to AC members only.

I have no knowledge of Arizona or California courses, but I do travel occasionally to play golf. I would definitely be interested in some west coast golf next year. Sounds like something I would enjoy. I could see some support coming from a few of the DFW crew also. But I should let them chime in on this themselves.

Only knock on Tucson is every single flight is going to have at least one additional connection.

And it's Tucson.

Just food for thought: what if the announcement of a large West Coast event is the impetus for some people to join the AC in order to play in that event? I realize that you've said in the past that you have an event in Palm Springs, but the amount of THP members that get to participate in that event is so small compared to an Invitational or a tournament like that. I realize that you have to have a ballpark number in mind in terms of interest, but Invitationals in other parts of the country have been the reason that some members have signed up for the AC, it shouldn't be any different for the West Coast.

Am I interested? You better believe I am! I'm about to make my third trip back East for a THP event. Can I add a single thing to this thread? Nope.

I've played one course in Cali, Valencia. Super nice but that was 10 years ago. I've played none in AZ.

So there is nothing I can add to help and show interest. I can guarantee this though, if this is LIITA for next year, I'll be all in to make it. My (soon to be) wife would kill me if we didn't make a THP event so near.

The issue with the West Coast mostly in my opinion is its so spread out. You Midwest and East Coasters can literally drive in a day to most of the area east of the Mississippi. Guys in NorCal and PNW aren't coming to Phoenix for an Invitational because it requires a flight. Even Dallas is a 22 hour driver for me from Phoenix. Its geography in my opinion that prevents Invitationals.

Now a 2 day event like Love is in the Air? People will fly no problem. But getting 40 guys together from an area this large and so fragmented, I get the hesitation.

We don't bet high stakes on the come. We always know our end game based on numbers. Each time a come bet has been placed it has backfired.

This right here. It's not an easy 5-6 hour drive for me/most of us. Hell, within 2 hours I'm still not out of the state. Takes 4-5 hours North or South and 2-3 for East to West.

When I visited my grandparents in Delaware, within 3 hours I swear we hit 5 states and major cities. It's not that way out here. A flight is almost always involved.
