Ocean City - 2014 THP Invitational #4 Sponsored By Bridgestone Golf

Full on event hangover...
Back to work today, at least today appears to be a light workload day...

Not me partner, but thank you anyway.
You made the trek and am so glad you got to experience your first THP Event.
They are incredibly unique and once someone goes to one, they usually end up going to many more.

Looking forward to your next adventure to one MP. 2015 will be here before you know it and #TheGrandaddy contests start soon.

yes, I meant you as the THP team, are doing great things.

you are not done with me, you guys will see me again!

Man, what a great time! Played 2 tremendous courses, in fantastic condition. Had 3 solid rounds for a 14 HC, but that was only a bit of the fun... Played with so many great guys! Don't know, other than maybe the wind on Friday, that you could ask for better weather!

Chris ( Philly golf guy ) was great, and he was quick to share his uh...love, for architect Arthur Hills while we played Lighthouse sound. Think he may still have that hit out on him. And he really enjoyed the tip from the guy on the promo par 3! We will play White Clay Creek to grow that Hills love!

Jesse ( The Crest ) is just a really great dude, good player and improving ( hope the bunker tip works out bro! ) and is close enough in Northern Va. that we will play Laurel Hill soon!

Jon ( JonD - you need to do something about that user name haha! ) may be one of the nicest guys you will ever meet! He had a little battle with the S word, but kept it together, and still played well.

Randy ( Mile High Golfer ) is a good player, and has a sarcastic sense of humor like myself that I can respect! Maybe he can get me some free Southwest miles haha

Juan ( BobGeorge) was my partner Saturday and my roomie, and is a great dude & very solid player - I think we had the same score at both Lighthouse on Friday and Rum on Saturday. We would have had a real chance on Saturday if I hadn't decided to become Mr. 3 putt... We will be playing in Northern Va. soon!

On Saturday our partners were Barry and Jimmy - both REALLY good players - we very, very lucky to be tied with them! Barry and I have almost the exact opposite shot shapes - I play a power fade, and he hits a big draw. He doesn't miss many shots!

Couple things to note - got ice jacked on # 11 at Rum ( maybe TPluff?) On 18 at Rum on Saturday. If someone is going to drive a green, I am not going to complain about that! All the guys were standing around 18 at Rum on Saturday - I pulled my approach shot and thought I was going to take someone out. Funny, I wasn't nervous at all on the first tee, but I will admit I had a bit higher pulse rate going on that approach shot! Kev - may want to be careful eating the wife's fajitas next time!

Thanks to JB, GolferGal and Mike Dean for getting all this together - a job well done!

Got a chance to talk to so many guys that I knew from the forum, and it was great to put a name with the face!

I’ll start by saying that I was really stressed before going with this event, first of all because my game is far from where I want it to be, and also because I don’t speak the same language as you guys, and I was worried it would make it hard to blend in but I was very happy to see that everyone was very welcoming and I never felt that I didn’t belong.
Here are a fewrandom toughts, more to come later

-Devrickus Trash talking master, you cracked me up on Friday, taking care on the trash talk for both Jesse and me.
-ForTheLoveOfGolf and Martsy, congratulations for the win, I wish I would have taken more time to talk to you guys, but it was fun meeting you.
-Tpluff Tyler my man, hope you back is not too sore carrying me all day long on friday, I had a blast chatting with you all weekend
-golf4life Nice playing with you Brett, I really enjoyed your presence on that Saturday round
-PhillyGolfGuy/ Michigan Slice Chris, and CJ I had a blast with you hanging out with you guys, so funny you guys brought me to tears laughing a few times
-jlukes has balls, I am not sure I would have made that bet but this guy do it, and delivers… with style it was really nice talking and hanging out with you
-amsmith: Aaron, it was really nice meeting you and sharing that room with you, looking forward to the next NY state outing
-OITW really enjoyed Alex, we talked and it felt like we knew each ever for a long time, I enjoyed that.
-Golf3rGuy Eric I enjoyed hanging out and playing with you, a quiet guy but you could tell he was having a good time, always smiling. Oh and thanks for playing delivery guy.
-GolfinFF that Friday round was fun, you were really nice to play with, always that good encouraging words when they were needed
-BeeDoubleU Bryan is a nice guy, he wont brag but this dude has game! I enjoyed that round in the dark
-Maddog701 was nice meeting you Mike, and I’ll remember that advice, just go, if you hit it great you’re a hero, if not, whatever.
-v.man you are a warrior, playing all weekend injured, and smiling all the time, it was nice to meet you
-TheCrest4 my favorite habs fan, I had a blast during that round Friday, I’ll remember that 18[SUP]th[/SUP] hole for a while
-buckbug I enjoyed meeting you Allan a really smooth guy, and man did I like these hats!
-Moosejaa It was nice meeting you Andy, we will cath up later
-Rob Wedge that guy’s smile is contagious, just lightening the mood wherever he is

I wish I had time to meet everyone, I’ll try to make a better job at that on my next event.

Got to work and....my hard drive crashed on my PC. Haha welcome back to the real world I guess. I dont even care. Just sitting here thinking about all the laughs and the good times I had this weekend.

First off, thank you Bridgestone Golf for sponsoring the event. I can overlook the fact that they hate lefties and see what an amazing company they are and the way they have fully embraced THP and its members for YEARS. They truly get it.

Josh, Morgan, and Mike Dean. Well done on another successful event. Had a great time and the facilities on Friday and Saturday were absolutely top notch. I think from a scenery point of view Lighthouse Sound may be my favorite course I have ever played.

Friday I played with Jesse (TheCrest), Marty (MPLefty) and Jim (jwkde). We had an absolute blast from start to finish. Since Jesse and Marty are too nice to trash talk, I may have taken it upon myself to trash talk both of them for each other. Was such a great time. Jim and I have played together before and it was a pleasure to see him again and get another round in together. Despite us trying to get Marty to teach us curse words in French, he is a gentleman and wouldnt do it. After the round we headed to Hoopers for dinner and ordered a fruity delicious beverage that drew the ire of Buck as I knew it would. Then proceeded to watch Count Mikula absolutely annihilate an army of seafood in the most machine like way I have ever seen anyone eat. He was hammering and smashing things all over the place. Looked like Zoolander trying to get the files out of the computer. Met some people I didnt get to see Friday afternoon. My favorite part of THP events is seeing new THPers take the leap and show up. Seeing them kind of hesitant to talk as the weekend begins and by the end of the weekend they are mixing it up and having blast. THPers really do bring out the best in each other.

Saturday, I had the misfortune :) of being paired with my good friend BuckJob and the eventual winners, Martsy and ForTheLoveOfGolf (Bryan) Despite me and Buck possibly having a disagreement between holes 8 and 9, I had a great time. Bryan and Martsy played great and it was a very fun round. Watching Buck hit a wedge 140 yards to cart path, cart path, parking lot, and then who knows was absolutely hilarious. Rum Pointe was a tremendous facility and was in great shape. Not gonna lie, losing by 1 shot for the 2nd straight invitational stung a bit but couldnt be happier for the two guys that won. They are great guys and really good golfers.

We were first off so we got to watch everyone come in. Sitting around the green and watching the gallery grow and everyone just having a good time was awesome to see. My favorite part had to be watching Creegs and v.man earning their #OutingApproved shirts by draining absolute bombs on 18. And on the total flip side. Rob Wedge 5 jacking while literally EVERYONE was sitting around the green watching. But he did it all with a big old grin on his face and we all had a good laugh about it.

Played Sunday with Aaron and Buck ...again. Had a great time learning all about the history of the Bay Club. Contrary to popular belief Buck is quite smart. The fact that Aaron and I didnt get video of Bucks history lessons is downright shameful.

Met so many awesome THPers this weekend and got to hang with some of my friends I have made from other various events, except for that Tpluff character. That guys a jerk :)

A couple of quick shout outs:

Kevin, Lee, and Matty - Thank you for putting Buck and I up for the weekend. Always good to see you guys. You guys are seriously the coolest family I have ever met.

Buck - My friend, my teammate. You have become like a brother to me. Yeah we argue here and there but its always in good fun. Despite your tattoos you really are a sweetheart. I basically spent the whole weekend laughing with and because of you so I thank you for that.

The Michigan Crew - Thanks for taking the long trip down. It was good to see all of you guys again and I am glad you guys had fun.

Aaron - Glad we finally got a round in together and cant believe you wouldnt use the damn MXMV. 2 for 2 is way better than 0-239847293 but I guess you are just weird. Haha

Marty - After getting over my initial disappointment that you were in fact, not Martin Brodeur, it was great to finally meet you and share a cart with you. You are a fine gentleman and a hell of a golfer.

Jesse - You are a good sport despite my nonstop verbal assault on Friday. That hat looked soooooo good on you on Saturday. Haha

Barry - Cant believe you took that drive but it was so awesome to see you buddy. I cant thank you enough for the kindness you have shown me and my family.

To everyone that came up and asked how my daughter was doing, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You dont know how much it means to me to know that so many people car and are pulling for my family. You guys are all good in my book.

Marty - After getting over my initial disappointment that you were in fact, not Martin Brodeur, it was great to finally meet you and share a cart with you.

yeah, sorry about that eh (just to be sure to meet two Canadian stereotypes in one sentance)

I was cursing myself all the way up for forgetting to ask man (yes! in french english and even in dutch and espanol, I had a lot of time for that) I really wish your family the best

Few more thoughts that popped up...

Special props to VMan coming out there with a pretty bad neck / shoulder injury... hope that gets better and you kick a$$ at the MC!

Was nice that MP lefty recognized my bright pink florescent shirt at OCShennanigans on Thursday night - other wise I would have being pulling a George Thorogood and drinking alone - that is, when I could get them to wait on me! Thought your English was fine btw!

Crest - nice hat!

Was glad I was able to show Juan, Barry, and jimmy the "Skull shot GIR under the wind technique" Saturday on #17 - truly shows how tremendously skilled I am... Just sorry you had to see that putting display on the back nine!

That par 3 at Lighthouse out towards the bay is diabolical - I actually got a par and it truly felt like a birdie. Hitting a 5 iron on a 160 yard hole?? What a beast of a hole!

Wonder who will be the first to receive their Coronado wedge?! After my putting performance on the back nine Saturday, maybe I could get a Coronado putter instead?

Buckbug - was digging the hats - the plaid one was the bomb!

MS - I had an uncle and I swear you are him reincarnated! Big guy, big laugh & voice, outgoing with a great sense of humor! When you yelled 'I am the greatest putter in the world" that was friggin' hilarious!

Bobgeorge ( Juan ) is a cigar connoisseur!

Suffering a full on THP letdown at this moment!

These recaps are awesome. Another great THP event delivers great friends, great food, great times and great golf.

Lets play Spot CJ from space..

How we didn't video ANY of the history tour is beyond me. Might have been the fact that we were laughing too hard to think of it!

Thanks Dev...just spit up my coffee

I had an absolute blast. I got in Thursday night and met a bunch of the guys at Ole Shananigans. We didn't end up staying out late since there was a lot of golf to be played the next day, but there were lots of new faces for me to meet so it was a good start to the weekend.

Friday morning we all met at Rum Pointe for our first round. The starter (who fought in two wars btw) was a character, barking orders at me to get everyone's receipt, but he warmed up and was a lot of fun. When he asked CJ if he knew what a Colt 45 looked like, I thought we were all in trouble. I ended up playing with jlukes and tpluff. Both of them are terrific players and a pleasure to play with. They also murder the ball a country mile. The wind was up and that made for some fun shots and I started finding my stride a little around the Eighth, so a fun round was had by all. We all took off for Lighthouse Sound after the round and had lunch over there, meeting up with a few guys that didn't play in the morning. I played with Michigan Slice, Bigball and JonD for the second round. It felt like we were playing forever, but had fun the entire time. Bigball played well, even parring that weird par 3 sitting on the bay. JonD was a great guy and had a nice mid ball flight that got him a lot of roll. I think he drove the green on the First even. Then there's that MI Slice guy. What a fun guy to golf with. The one liners came early and often. Coronado wedges, the trail of tears and mugging Arthur Hills were some of the topics discussed. I played well on the back and felt pretty good for the Invitational round the next day. About 30 of us met at a local restaurant for dinner and had a blast. Everyone headed in after dinner, as it was a very long day. Well, not everyone. Rob decided to check out the local casino and made a night of it. What a trooper.

The Invitational round was then before us and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to having a good round. I've been working my a## off since last November with lessons and practice to improve and wanted to put together a nice round at a THP event. I was hitting well at the range in the morning, so felt pretty good about everything. Well, that all changed when 40 guys all of the sudden got quiet to watch me tee off and the pressure was palpable. It was a rocky start and I was massively disappointed/deflated, but my partner golf4life was great about it. Poor Brett. We were partners in AC last year, so he got me again. He was killing the ball off the tee with that Alpha. After a few holes I decided it was time for swing oil. MPlefty and tpluff were also in our group and we all kind of let loose after that. Marty drove all the way from Montreal to hang out and was shooting pretty well. As soon as he got a beer though, he instantly turned into a par/birdie machine. It was like the mere thought of beer was enough to bring out his inner Tiger. Hooray beer!

It took me a while to find my swing again, but I put together a very good second nine to redeem myself. On 18, my approach just missed the green in the rough, then I chipped to the pin for a gimme par. I don't know if that makes me #outingapproved or not, but I sure feel outing disapproved after that opening tee shot. It did feel nice to finish strong though. I had a ton of fun with our group, with Tyler and Brett hammering shots and Marty playing well with thoughts of beer in his head. It was a very fun round. I need to keep grinding and think it's worth joining a league to get more experience with that type of competitive atmosphere. Still lots of work to do, but I got my sights on PGA National.

Hanging out at the Eighteenth green while everyone played in was a lot of fun. Poor Rob was getting booed, I think I shouted at him to fourjack it and he did one better with a fivejack. He took it in stride and then we figured out which team won. We were just behind FTLOG/Martsy and knew they were in the running by watching them play. Congrats to you guys; you certainly earned that HOF tag with a lot of quality teams very close behind. We all then headed to dinner inside the clubhouse for more time hanging out. MPlefty, beeDoubleU and OITW decided to replay 9 holes and I decided to join. I love playing when the course is empty and the sun is setting. Marty was nice enough to make sure we were stocked with beer and I got to hang out with two more THPers I had yet to play with. We had a lot of fun basically playing in the dark, hitting each other's drivers and trying to figure out where our balls went. I was the last car out of the parking lot, almost 12 hours after arriving. What a great way to spend the day.

A bunch of us then hung out at Shannigan's again and my oh my it was a lot of fun. Among other things, CJ was making friends and I lamented that they didn't have quesadillas. I laughed so hard I was crying at least a few times. Too many guys to list here, but that was a great time.

And just like that, it was over. I had so much fun I totally forgot about the terrible start to my round and now it's a distant memory. Instead, all I remember are all the one liners, the laughs and friendships made. It's always tough when it's over and you realize there were many you weren't able to hang out with more, but then you look at the cool events on the horizon and it becomes a lot more exciting.

A few other things I'll mention:

- It's been a couple weeks, so why not think about getting a new club? After hitting CJ's J40 4w, that is now in my sights. bee double's Supertri was also really nice.

- Brett, great seeing you again and we had a lot of fun. I'll keep taking those baby steps and at one of these things we'll finally get that trophy.

- CJ, PGA National can't come soon enough. I had a blast hanging out with you and can't wait to do it again. But make no mistake, you are Chris Farley, even if all these young kids don't know who he is.

- Marty, you are a class act. I'm glad you got to try an IPA and liked it. Those IPA's instantly took 10 strokes off your handicap.

- Milehigh introduced me to Shandy and gotta admit it was pretty good. Lots of fun hanging out with you buddy.

- Tyler, glad we were able to play a couple rounds. You're a quality guy and looking forward to hanging out again in FL.

- Golfinff and Golf3rguy, good meeting you guys. We had some fun and I enjoyed every minute.

- Aaron, always good to see you brother. Hope you're able to get in off the list for PGA National.

This post is probably way too long as is, yet I'm just not going to be able to say everything I want. Just know I had a great time with you all and if you're ever in my neck in the woods, don't be shy about giving me a shout to play a round.

Finally, thanks again to JB, GG and 441 for organizing yet another great event.

Almost forgot. Brett, my man. We talked on the range before the round Saturday about my struggles with the driver of late. A quick little tip and I think I hit all FIR. That was so huge for me. Thanks buddy!

no recap post can be too long, I enjoy reading every word of it, makes me feel like its not over yet ( I live in denial I know)

These recaps are great. It sounds like this was a great time, and the course/area looked like it was a fantastic venue. Looking forward to seeing what the '15 schedule brings, so I can mark my calendar for one of these.

I drove up Saturday morning because I had to work late the night before. Rolled up to the course a little sleep having set the alarm for 4am, and my eyes brightened at just a beautiful links style layout. Was there a little early, but saw JB over by the check in table by the range and couldn’t have been less surprised…the great guy on the forum is a great guy in person as well. Really enjoyed the conversations, though in some respects you’re like a bad drug dealer, just giving out those little tastes of what’s to come. I think we’re all in for an amazing end of the year, and as sacrilegious as it sounds, 2015 probably going to rewrite the rewritten.

Hit the range and got to chatting with everyone, and also not much of a surprise, just a great bunch of people. Everyone friendly, funny, personable…a far cry from the 95% of golf I play as a single walk on. A guy could get used to this. Because of the camaraderie, feeling very relaxed on the range, not really thinking about that first tee (oh by the way, welcome to your 1[SUP]st[/SUP] event, you get to tee off first!)

So after about 2 hours of range and putting practice, and the occasional chuckle as Michele Wie’s ugly step sister pranced around, the call was made for first group up. Thankfully Dev took the first bullet…and of course he stripes one down the middle…thereby putting the pressure on on me not to be the first one to jack one out of bounds, or maybe just miss the ball completely, with everyone watching. These thoughts are going thru my head the entire walk to the tee box... At address I actually felt pretty calm, tried blocking everything out and was successful for a few seconds. Then on the back swing it was like slow motion. Could feel my hand sweating/slipping, arms tighten and shake…and it was all I could just to finish my swing. Honestly the luckiest shot I hit all day. Pretty sure if a go pro was set up, my eyes might have been caught being closed…but whew, what a happy feeling when it was over!

The next 17 holes just were perfect. A little couples drama in the other cart toward the end of the back nine, but you could just tell…it was love. A funnier two guys you could not be asked to group with. As for my partner, ForTheLoveofGolf... just an absolute great guy, and almost as good a golfer. It was such a confidence booster for me off the tee, knowing he was behind me and I didn’t need to be so nervous. Ironically when I first said I should tee off first, I intended it for it to be helpful for him...but I definitely got the better end of the deal. I really hope we get a chance to play together again sometime!

We knew we were paired with a great group, and frankly thought if we could finish ahead of them, we had a great shot. It was a dogfight, Dev pretty much automatic off the tee, and Buck making some holes look like pitch and putt. Pretty sure we were tied after 9, opened up a bit of a lead to start off the back, and then closed it up again on the first par 3 on the back, where myself and Brian went looking for Little Red Riding Hood with our balls. It’s a miracle we only lost 4 strokes on that one hole. Pretty solid down the stretch, and then came the 16[SUP]th[/SUP] and 17[SUP]th[/SUP] where I did my best to squander our lead with a double and triple, and really thought I’d cost us a shot. Pretty sure it was all JB’s fault…planting that seed that we had a shot, thereby basically dooming me to my typical play.

Ironically, after we handed in our cards and plopped down on the 18[SUP]th[/SUP] green, pretty much forgot all about completion, and cared a little bit less, because it set in that I just had what was probably the most enjoyable round of golf I’ve ever had. Course, I won’t lie, every time a new group handed in a card, it was hard not to try to listen in and see where we stood. :bashful:

Anyway, as the group got bigger and bigger, the fact that we had 10 groups didn’t really set in until I realized we were waiting about 1 ½ hours for everyone else to finish up. And it also dawned on me that thank goodness I got to tee off first, because were pretty tight around the green, and if I was hitting into us, I would have definitely skulled one into the gallery. That was pressure.

Had an enjoyable time the next day too, awesome to get a chance to play with jkwde and kenh, had a really good time. IT was a really nice course, and a great contrast from the day before. Though between the extreme lack of sleep the previous two nights, my wrist starting to tighten up, and the prospect of a 5+ hour drive home (I know MI guys…I’m a wimp), decided to cut it off at 9, which was probably a good idea anyway sine I think my game hit a wall around the 8[SUP]th[/SUP] hole. Sorry I missed getting a chance to say a proper goodbye to the other two groups, but I have no doubt I’ll be seeing you all again in the near future.

Thanks again to THP, Bridgestone, JB, GG, MikeDean for what could only be classified as the greatest weekend of golf for me in my life.

some quick recap thoughts,
wish i had more time to meet more of the guys, the ones i met are a great bunch of people.

this was my first and by far not my last event, i may even drag six4three5 to an event in stead of the other way around, lol

i could go on and get long winded but i will keep it short,

the party was great, the golf was great

best of all was the people i met, wish i could have met everyone.

i will be looking forward to the next one

only one problem with the whole event........JB...you need to stock mens sizes, not sure where you get the shirts but the m,l,xl are for the young mens sizes, you need to get a few MAN size shirts....lol me , Michigan Slice and a few others need them!!!

and this first timer did knock it on #2 to win my shirt!!!! ( six4three5 has yet do win a shirt but he will end up with mine due to the young man size.....lol )

What a weekend. Rolled into Lighthouse Sound in time to get some warmup in before the Friday afternoon round. Didn't help too much as I was pretty terrible the whole round but had a blast. Was lucky enough to play with a solid group after the mixup. Philly Golf Guy, Michigan Slice & BigBall, you guys were a blast to play with and would gladly tee it up with you any time.

Saturday I was paired up with another great group. Freakin steady milehighgolfer, Rob Wedge and moosejaa. Needless to say another great round. Didn't turn in the best card but we had a good time. Andy, wish I could have put in a better round for you man.

Met a ton of good people at this event. For everyone I talked to, it was great meeting you.

Big thanks to THP and Bridgestone for putting this on. I'm definitely chomping at the bit to go to another one. Next time though I think I'll go with a nicer lodging solution...

5 jacking (technically 4) in front of 40 THP'ers...Priceless.

Hey. At least your ball didn't end up in the back of a golf cart for a max score on 18! :D

.... Although I did realize the Ohio State head cover on the other cart on like the 15th hole...
NOT Appreciated!

I was surprised it took you that long to notice! CJ is the coolest Michigan fan I've ever met. True story.

I'm back to work today and tomorrow will write my recap. I'm going to need a computer to do it cause I have lots to say. Great recaps and wonderful stories!

Okay this might take my lunch hour but here we go with a recap and thoughts from this weekend.

Flew into Baltimore to be greeted by a smiling Buckbug and we proceeded to make the journey in his "Smart" car to Ocean City. When we got there, found a few THPers at Shenanigans (the best place on the Boardwalk). I arrived after Allan because we missed each other on the Boardwalk and I proceeded to walk the wrong direction. Might have been distracted - #BINGO. But it was great seeing some familiar THP faces and some new faces while sharing a few drinks.

Friday morning arrived and was in the first group in the morning at Rum Pointe. Got to tee it up with the Fairway Finder, aka Vman. A great guy and absolutely enjoyed the round with him. Also got to tee it up with a couple of Western New Yorkers, Maddog and Buckbug - who I had not seen since moving from Rochester in early May. I forgot to warn Vman about Maddog and when Mike left his par putt short on the first hole - he let out his patented "I suck" at the top of his lungs. The look on Ken's face was priceless, but not nearly as funny as the poor cart girl on the #5th green when another "I suck" was let loose. The wind was definitely a factor on Friday, but the course was absolutely gorgeous.

While I was the youngest in the morning group, I was the oldest in the afternoon group. Paired up with tpluff, Chosen1 and Buckjob - I knew it was going to be a task keeping up with the long ball hitters. Tyler going on 4 hours of sleep and both of us just having played 18, decided it was a great idea to have some match play - straight up - with Brian and Buck. We held our ground for about 9-10 holes, but lack of the sleep and the morning round caught up with us on the back and they closed us out pretty quickly. Thankfully it was only for a beer after the round - which leads to another story in itself.

We come up to the "Coronado" challenge and all of us tried to back away from it as much as possible. The older gentleman haggled with us and was even ready to throw in $1 beer vouchers. Tyler and I suddenly thought this was a great idea since we were pretty sure that we were buying. So in we go, only to get to 18 and the bar is closed for a special event. Buck's reaction was priceless and if we weren't going to Hoopers - he was ready to lead a posse to find the guy. :)

But it was a great round with a great group of guys on absolutely gorgeous course. But that wind!!

Friday night was a great time. Seeing a long table with 25-30 THPers, THP family members eating, drinking and just laughing - it is a fantastic sight to behold. I actually tried crab and liked it, but it is way too much work. I had plenty of shrimp that would have made Bubba proud and will not need to have anymore until Christmas. Towards the end of the dinner, CJ Shenanigans announces there is an air hockey table and stares me down. Challenge accepted. Don't believe for a second the guy was delirious as he was bouncing all over the place - until I took the crown from him. Which reminds me - I need to send him a PM or text message every day at 4:53.

Saturday morning brough the Invitational around and I was paired with OITW. Not really knowing Alex, I didn't know what to expect. Needless to say, I couldn't have picked a better partner. Alex is not only a great golfer, but a great guy as well. I had a blast the entire round and we were playing really well right until JB enligtens us on the 9th holde that we were his pick to win. We handled that boost of confidence really well and proceeded to double bogey #10. But overall we played extremely well and if I could have putted a little better - we would have been right there ( Shut it Dev, it wasn't the SeeMore).

We shared our round with jwkde and golfinnut. Jim and Chris are great guys that played extremely well during the round. Jim could have played #17 all by himself and would have made Mike Dean proud with his off the green birdie putt. Would definitely tee it up with both guys again.

The scene on 18 was fantastic though. I thought I hit a perfect approach shot on 18, but it took one hop and just got off the back of the green. Managed to get up and down for the par and then enjoyed watching as the other groups came in. Rob Wedge smiling while 5 jacking was pricess, Vman and another THPer (sorry I forgetting names) dropping bombs, Buck and Dev going back and forth - it was a great way to finish a great round.

Saturday night was Shenanigans and I am not sure I can add anymore than what has already been said - but I am going to try. What started out with cpljohnst, buckbug and I sharing a relaxing couple of beers together became a whole different story when CJ arrived. Remember how Crash Davis tells Nuke Laroosh that he needed to announce his presence with authority - that was CJ walking in. From arguing with people from Ireland about whether there was Potato Soup in Ireland to helping the waitresses roll silverware in napkins - CJ absolutely owned the evening. Oh he had help thanks to Philly Golf Guy, but I can honestly say I have not laughed that hard, that many times in a long, long time.

I also have to say that somebody saying at the top of their lungs (PGG, I think) that we all met on the internet in a very loud voice and seeing the reaction of everyone around us was priceless.

Just when I thought my weekend couldn't get any better, Sunday was a round with Buckjob and Dev. The history tour of the course by Buck should have been recorded and we dropped the ball. The banter between Ricky and Buck was worth the price of the round itself and apparently Dev didn't get the memo that the round was Morgan Cup prep. Oops. Every single guy that warmed up on range pretty much groaned with the first couple of swings pretty much said it all. All in all, it was a great round of golf with both guys. Just wished I could have made a putt or two so Dev would have had something else to talk about during the round. :)

Random thoughts:

PhillyGolfguy - absolutely great guy who until Saturday night, I had no idea that he had that many different octaves to his voice. Some of them should not heard by the human ear. It was great seeing you and I hope we can tee it up again soon! Sorry about calling you Danny Devito, but I blame CJ for trying to convince Sophie that the two of you were brothers.

CJ - you are the man and I am not sure I laugh as much around any other human being then you. That being said, Maddog is not my Dad and I AM the air hockey champion. Keep practicing and you may be able to take it back. :)

Buckbug - thanks for being my chaffeur all weekend and it was great catching up. I know it killed you, but I am glad you resisted washing the Smart Car everytime a bug hit it. Your generosity Saturday night at Shenanigans buying the first couple of rounds for everyone will not be forgotten.

Cpljohnst - Barry it was great to finally meet you in person. You have some great jokes that every THPer should hear and contrary to what Allan said - I never heard your snoring.

MPlefty - It was great sharing a room with you and getting to meet you. I am not sure I am going to be able to hear and think of "sandbagging" in the same light anymore.

Moosejaa - I am glad you made your first THP event and equally glad you had a great time. Sorry we didn't get to tee it up this weekend and we will do just that next time I am back in western New York.

Maddog - I had a feeling it would happen and I am glad that Jimmy got you to an event - you are hooked!! :)

The Ukraine Tiger Woods is a great guy, great golfer, can drive a cart half asleep and will go hours without saying a word until "Ooh.. ice cream".

Jlukes - do not make a bet with Morgan again. Good to see you buddy!!

GolfinFF - great to meet you buddy and we will tee it up soon!

That Montreal Canadians hat looked pretty good all weekend!

My computer screen at work is bigger than the TVs as the Lankford.

There are others I am forgetting so there will be more posts. But thanks again to Josh, Morgan and Bridgestone for such a great weekend. While we get out of the weekend only what we are willing to put in - you give us the vehicle to have such great weekends. So thank you! The more THP events I go to, the more meaning they have for me and the harder they become to leave. The idea that it may be months for another for me is hard to fathom and I will be fighting like hell to get into the Grandaddy - tpluff my man already gave me some ideas.

I didn't even realize they had TVs....what in the world was I doing the whole time? Oh I know, being a creeper with Randy and the MI/Ohio van from the top floor window of the Lankford!

Bingo!

To start my recap I've got to first thank someone that made me even contemplate doing the road trip I did this weekend - Michigan Slice! CJ I'm so glad you are on THP and I'm so glad you've made it to so many events via Road Trip! You had truly inspired me to make this kind of trip.

I've been to several THP events now but never one outside of the South. I've really appreciated all the THPers both veteran and not that have traveled down my way for events and I've been wanting to return the favor. When a spot opened up last week for this event I thought it over for a couple of minutes then said to myself "What Would CJ Do".... texted my wife and got approval then fired off the PM. I'm so glad I got in. What a weekend.

I've already thanked Bridgestone, JB, Morgan and the THP staffers in this thread but its worth thanking them again. The Invitationals are so awesome and its all because of you all.

To my playing partners on Saturday - Jimonious, Bobgeorge, and Bigball. It was so great playing with you all. Our games were all pretty comparable. And its great that all three of you are in the N.VA./DC area. Though I'm not in that area I enjoyed listening in on all the local golf course talk about DC. I imagine the three of you guys will be getting together to play some of those tracks together. Jimmy, it was also great meeting your wife. Tell her thank you for sharing you with us on your Ocean City trip. Hope you got to see that Atlantic Ocean sunrise on Sunday morning!

After my road trip up on Friday, I went straight to Lighthouse where many guys were out on the back nine of their second 18 for the day. I wasn't there long before T2GRN, LeeB and Youngbuck drove up. I enjoyed catching up with them on their 2 week visit to Pinehurst recently. Then the groups started rolling in. Was great to see some old faces again as well as some new faces. Next stop was Hoppers for some food and fun. Met up with Aaron, Allen and Martin the guys I'd be rooming with, all great guys.

Strolled down the boardwalk with Allen and Aaron and had a nice beachside breakfast before heading to the course. After checking in with Dev, Saturday started off like most events with the fun range time. Got in a few swings with some clubs that I hadn't swung before, thanks to those guys that shared clubs! I tried to at least introduce myself to everyone but I know I missed several. Sorry about that! Was great to see so many guys out for their first THP event.

The course itself was great. I loved the layout and conditions were very good. A course I'd play on again in a heartbeat. The highlight of mine and Jimmy's day was both getting birdie on the par 5, 13th. Being in the next to last group it was very fun coming up the 18th with everyone gathered around. Dinner was shared in the clubhouse and there was great talk going around. Everything from clubs, to past events, to future events were topics. Tons of Grandaddy one and dos talk!

Headed back the Lankford and showered. Then after waiting for Aaron to get his internet fix, he, Allen and I headed down to Shenanigans. Slowly more guys sauntered in and we had about 10 of by the time the CJ show started. Such a great time!

I'm not exactly sure what time I got to bed early Sunday morning but I woke up at 6 and hit the rode by 6:30. Made it home safe and sound late last night. I'll not hesitate to road trip to an event in the future now that I know I can pull it off. Will make sure to plan it in advance next time so I can take advantage of pre and post rounds.

A few shoutouts:

JB - thanks for all you do. I know what its like to travel as much as you do and I appreciate your sacrifice of being away from family so much. I know you'll say "its part of the job" and it is but we all thank you for it.

Jlukes, Tpluff: Great to meet you two in person finally!

Philly Golf Guy: Quesadilla! I'm craving one now!

Buckjob, Golf4Life, Martsy: Bret, Andrew, great seeing Team Harry compatriots again! Martsy! So glad to meet you and glad to see you a winner after having to pull out of #theking with injury. Put off that surgery until October so you can go down to PGA National!

GolfinFF, Milehighgolfer, V.man: Jason, Randy, Ken! Great to see you guys again after seeing you all in Hilton Head earlier this spring. Ken, get that shoulder healthy for the MC.

MPlefty, amsmith, buckbug: Martin, Allen and Aaron. Was great meeting you all and sharing very close quarters at The Lankford! I'll have more jokes ready for the next time we meet!

DevRickus: Ricky, so nice to see you again. Enjoyed seeing you have such a great time this weekend and the game is looking good!

Enjoyed meeting everyone new and old at the event. Hope to see you all again at a THP event soon!

Here are a few pics from the invitational. First off I take absolutely no credit for these. LeeB took all of them.

Pictures of the course first off.
