Sets of irons you've owned

ProTactic starter clubs, when I was 11-12
Tour/Staff cavity backs, when I was 13+
Ping Zing knockoffs, got me back into golf two years ago
Cleveland TA7, used for a couple months
Snake Eyes 3500 hybrid/iron set, been using them for two years

The Snake Eyes aren't a sexy set by any stretch, but they actually seem pretty decent. The lofts aren't overly strong, I have somewhat predictable distances, the hybrids (3-6) are fairly easy to hit, and the irons (7-A) also seem pretty good.

I've been thinking about new irons for next year. I nearly snagged a set of Amp Cells on eBay for $160, but let someone outbid me. Seems that those are great clubs for the money on the slightly used market.

Wilson or spaldings from my grandpa
Trident (Big Bertha clones)
TaylorMade 320
TaylorMade r7 TP
TaylorMade Rocketbladez
Callaway Apex Pros

I bet we could find a correlation between sets owned and time spent on THP :alien:

My first real set was a hand-me-down from my Dad since he had them, but used something different. They were the McGregor Tourney blades. They had the copper face if that means anything to anyone. Those who pick up the game now have it easy compared to trying to learn with those things.

When I got out of high school the Ping Zing came out and I got those after saving all summer. So those were the first real set that I bought myself.

After that it has been:
Mizuno T-Zoid Pro
Mizuno T-Zoid Pro 2
Titleist ZB currently.

1. Mixed set of hand me downs and Wilson Dave Marr woods
2. Wilson Reflex irons and TM Original 1 driver
3. Hogan Radial Irons and TM driver.
4. Hogan Apex Grind and TM driver
5. Hogan Apex Edge Pro and Custom Driver

Many wedges and putters have also been in the bag over 50+ years.

1. Knight starter set
2. Callaway Big Bertha '96
3. Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro
4. Titleist 712 MB
5. TaylorMade CB TP '12
6. TaylorMade Speedblades

Age 7 to 17 played some hand me down kids sets and a more mature set which I do not recall brands.
Age 17 our club house burned so dad and two brothers and I got 4 sets of 1965 macgregor tourney which we still have.
Age 55, was still playing the 1965
Age 57, bought Taylormade rac iron set
Age 58, added Cleveland irons set
Age 65 added titleist 910 AP1's
Age 66 added Callaway Apex combo wedge irons (P thru 2 iron with recoil in regular stiffness)

i still have all these sets including the four 1965 sets, two with original grips
Until titleist set last year, I played the two iron sets
i did not play a lot from age 28 to age 55 and hit the 1965 irons with stiff shafts
i don't see the apex leaving my bag for a long time.

not a long list of irons for almost 60 years of golf

4 - Mizuno JPX-800 PRO irons and Titleist 910D2, 910F and 910H

I also have a set of 2014 Callaway Edge Hybrids and irons (4-5-6 hybrid & 7 thru SW) that I was gaming the past month or so.

****As you may notice in my sig, the Callaway clubs are on a time out. No fault of Callaway, I just have something going on with the guys I play with.

Wilson Staff blades
Hogan Edge
Titleist DCI (I believe that was the model name. Hated them because they were not forged.)
Hogan Apex Edge Pro
Mizuno MX300
Bridgestone J40 DPC (twice now)
Mizuno JPX 800 Pro

I refuse to respond on the grounds that it may incriminate me. :)

mizuno t-zoid true blades

First set was bought at a garbage sale, Wilson blades not sure of the model. Next set was a Titliest 990 custom fit at a local golf club. Nike forged blades [the ones Tiger used around 2000]. Mizuno mp-57. Bridgestone J40's. Callaway Apex pro's. Re-Purchased a set of Titliest 990's off ebay as they were my favorite irons I have owned. They may be my gamer set. Another range session will confirm this. Head to head challenge to come. Apex pro Vs. 990.

Wilson Oakmont blades (1960s?)- heavy clubs with a very small sweet spot.
Mongoose cavity back (1990s)- Cobra knock offs from the '90s. Not bad, not great.
Wilson Prostaff Multimetal (2005)- decent clubs. Playable big box store stuff. Funky hybrids instead of a 3 and 4 iron.
Cleveland Launcher (2005)- like someone stretched a cavity back iron into a massive shape. Very clunky but pretty forgiving.
Wilson Staff DI7- probably my favorites to date. Relatively forgiving but not too clunky. Lofts are a little stronger than I like.

I bet we could find a correlation between sets owned and time spent on THP :alien:

LOL! I think this thread was meant for me! I was just talking with Canadan about this Sunday and Cookie yesterday at the airport.

2014 - Tour Preferred MC, Tour Preferred CB, Apex Pro, Bio Cell, J40 DPC.....and the year isn't over yet
I was right!

As for me, I've only owned one none kit set, my S2s, still happy with them.

Wow, def. a great thread indeed.

-Top-Flite Tour (2003 model)
-Mizuno MP-14
-Mizuno MX-23
-TM Burner 2.0 (should have never gotten rid of them)
-Mizuno JPX-800 Pro
-Mizuno JPX-800
-Callaway Razr X Black (current)
Just wondering your thoughts on why you should be never sold the burner 2.0s. I love mine as well however been pondering something different.

1990 to 1997 - 1990's vintage starter set - I think a few of the clubs are still in my mom's garage.
1997 - 2001 - Knock-off Callaway Big Berthas.
2001 - early 2002 - Real Callaways that were stolen from my apartment when living in Los Angeles.
2002 - July 2014 - Callaway X-14s
July 2014 - Present - Callaway Apex

I'll probably keep the Apex irons for another 15 years. Then it will be time to upgrade again.
