My new iron refinishing experiment

I found the heads on another site. A guy let them go for a price I couldn't refuse! I refinished a Scotty so I knew it could be done.

Awesome project. Did you find those heads on eBay?

The finish is called plum brown, by birchwood casey. I bought the heads raw, in the condition in my first post.

Could you share some detail on what the finish is and where to find it. The finished color looks awesome.

Did you strip the chrome or were these raw?

I finished the rest. 6 coats. This time I applied the paintfill before I baby oiled. I doubt it will stay, especially after a couple rounds. Anyways, here's the finished heads. Just waiting on the shafts.

I've got some true temper XP105 on the way. I intend to hard step a regular flex.

my shafts of choice are nippon 1050 reg flex and project x 5.0, so I'm taking a chance on these. Too good a deal to pass up

BTW, the reason I liked this finish so much is because of these wedges I received from Scratch a few years ago. They are long gone. Here they are when I forst got them. It's the "antique" finish that Scratch offered

The irons look great and you picked a great headshape. How durable is the finish?

I'm not happy wih the white pain I bought, so I'm going to start over. I bought a Testors paint kit. Any recommendations for color? Thanks

Orange or light blue

Bought a 52* Callaway Jaws wedge for a good price, gave it the same treatment. Here's the before pic of the wedge

Then redid all the paintfill. Bought Testors and mixed up the blue to a shade I like. Drying as we speak

And done. Matching ferrules and everything. Currently drying so I can give them a go tomorrow.

I'm thinking about taking this back to raw since the finish is not holding, but will keep the paintfill on. What do you guys think?
