Dumb new vehicle trends.

I hate blowoff valves with a passion. Spend some money and get yourself a better turbo... :(

Blowoff valves/ Diverter valves are required with turbos to prevent turbo surge and other fun things.

Nothing is worse than those that don't have turbos and buy fake ones or the speakers to simulate it.

I hate the donks, every time I see one I cringe luckily its only a few times a year. I really hate the stance people. Its stupid, dangerous and destroys the car in the long run. Also hate the fart can muffler types. Sounds stupid. Expanding on that hate the people that have stock civics that punch a hole in their rear bumper to reduce drag. All you did was ruin a bumper.

Yep I hate all of those as well.

From what I understand it came from the prerunner crowd out west. They would set up the tail a little lower for better traction in the back since they were two wheel drive. The look caught on, and of course got exaggerated to look stupid like the above example.

Aftermarket valves especially ones set a certain way to be extra loud on a low hp build are funny to me. Most make your car run like crap anyways. Guys that love the noise but wonder why they are running rich / lean lol.

There's all kind of vehicular stupidity around here but the thing that annoys me the most is all the pinheads who have the crazy bright HID headlights installed improperly on their vehicles and run around blinding everybody.

If you seriously need the power of 7 suns radiating from your vehicle in order to see where you're going - you shouldn't be driving.

You're not alone in this one either. Retrofit HID's, I believe they're called and they don't have the shield like the stock ones do. I have also seen a lot of green headlights for some reason around here. I'm pretty sure they're illegal here, but being a military town, they're a bit relaxed on stuff like that because they can't enforce state vehicle laws on Soldiers with out of state tags.

I agree there. Then there are the ones that have a car with a maf and a diverter valve and switch it to a blow off and wonder why it doesn't work well.

Prior to the early 2000s, I would have agreed. With variable nozzle and variable vane turbos in production cars these days (with an active aftermarket), you can get the same response and instant elimination of wasteful boost production. :)

9000%+ agreed regarding the noisemakers.

They're definitely mostly noise because 90% or more of people aren't running high enough hp builds to warrant an aftermarket / upgraded valve. Most will be absolutely fine stock with less noise. Car will thank them as well

If my car got hut by one of those things there would be hell to pay

Jacking up a truck that you don't take off-road is stupid.

Leaving drag radials on a car after you leave the drag strip is just stupid. If you can't control your car with street tires, you don't deserve to have 700 bhp under there.

Huge rims and thin-walled tires on cars with all stock suspension....because it's a terrible drive and unsafe.

Is that an Escort Cosworth? It's not, because we're not in mid-90's Europe? Then that giant wing looks stupid, serves no function, and I hope you safely drive your car into a telephone pole.

Though if I could get an Escort Cosworth I would be so happy. One of my dream cars.

I'm running right around 26lbs of boost in my car right now (stock is 17.4). I'm considering a gfb diverter valve because the stock valve cant exactly handle that high of a level of boost, a valid reason to upgrade. While researching what valve to go with, the amount of people that just bought upgraded valves on a stock car for the sound was astonishing. What wasn't surprising was the amount of people complaining about a poorly running car after just changing the blow off valve. People need to educate themselves on what exactly certain parts do to their cars. I blame the fast and the furious movies for a lot of these issues.

I'm a huge car guy and have been into the Newer mustangs since the we're reintroduced in 05. While even in our own community you come across the gull wing door kits, badging a v6 as a Shelby and a few other modifications that can turn the stomach. But behind the wheel of each car is a guy that is wildly in love with his car. We spend so much time behind the wheel these days that you better like what you drive.
When I see a ride that I cringe at I give it a good look, shake my head with a chuckle.
But I don't trash the guy or the car. It's what they believe in and work hard for. It's not for me, but they might look at my 2012 and shake their head and chuckle, because it's not for them.

Donks have somewhat gone out of fashion here in Oakland. They were really popular when I first moved here 4 years ago, but see them less and less thankfully.

Agree that both of these are just dumb, and really an expensive way to get attention.

Alas, they are big round these here parts.

Elbows!!!
I always admired how Houston cats would throw a 5th wheel on anything and throw a candy paint job on it.
H-Town hold it dine!!!

Donks: I have to admit that I was a touch jealous that the Jag that pulled up next to me had more ground clearance than my stock 85 Blazer running 33's.

Stanced: I have nothing against lowered vehicles. The bottom of the air dam on my E34 is about 4.5 inches from the pavement after installing AC Schnitzer springs and low profile tires. However, why in the world anyone would think it's cool to heat the springs to lower a vehicle and run rubberbands for tires is beyond me.

Offset Rims: Save up some money or go down to "rent-a-tire" and put actual 33x12.5 or wider tires on your 4x4 instead of using offset rims to make your street tires stick out.

I run a 275 drag radial on a 12" wheel for that exact purpose as I am limited to a 275/60/15 drag radial in my class but the entire bead is in contact with the rim.

Nice a 275 car, My drag car (72 duster) has 29.5 on 11.5 with a 10in wheel haha. For now, it is going back on the street.

A blow off valve is crucial to not blowing up your turbo as it causes compressor surge when you let off the throttle. The boost (which actually is just a mesurement of restriction not power) stops at the throttle blade and can only go back to a spining turbine at 10x your engine speed.

This sounds like diesel turbos not car turbos., they do not need wastegates either. To put a variable vain turbo on a $23,000 sporty car would not be viable.

And here I thought someone was starting a convo about the congressional hearings on the NTSB implementing DSRC as a standard for V2V and V2I communications.

Porsche has them (variable vane) for gasoline cars and Borg Warner and Garrett for sure make them for other cars including wastegated applications.

Quick Google nets the wiki: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable-geometry_turbocharger
