I’ve dabbled with the utilities but always have this perception that I might not have the speed to play it, which leads to trying to swing faster, which leads to no good....Man, reading through this thread I may have made a mistake going with a 3U instead of a 7w
For me I like a driving iron of sorts. I don't like seeing a lot of loft on the club it freaks me out. Hence why I gamed a 2h last year instead of a 5w. I hit long irons well typically so thats the route I chose. Everyone is different and there is no wrong answer.I’ve dabbled with the utilities but always have this perception that I might not have the speed to play it, which leads to trying to swing faster, which leads to no good....
Likely all in my head, but as Bobby Jones said, “golf is played mainly on a five-and-a-half-inch course, the space between your ears”

I once played Cleveland VAS Irons and Nike Square Drivers ... nothing freaks me out

I Play 7wd in small minus then 9wd at standard flat.....its almost like the golf gods smiled upon usI spent some time with my fitter the other day hitting the Sim Max2 7w comparing it to my Sim Max 5W. I found that I didn't hit them that differently enough that it made sense to have both.
I then hit a Ping 7W with some loft added to it getting it to 22*. We found the distance on that to be more where I wanted. The issue was adding loft closed the face which is what I am looking to avoid. We decided that the 9w which is 23.5* with loft reduced to 22* would be the ticket. After mulling it over during the weekend I ordered a Ping 425 9W with a Mitsubishi C6 shaft 70g in stiff flex. This seemed to get me right in the distance window I was looking for of 185-190 yard carry that sat reasonably well. Cool Clubs could get it to me in 2 weeks they had the head in stock. Ordering from Ping with one of their stock shafts that might work would be a minimum of 4-6 week lead time.
On the hybrid front I hit the Titleist TSi3 20* on Sunday that a friend of mine had. This club didn't go left but I didn't get the height out of it that I was looking for. If you are worried about losing shots left with a hybrid this club could be a good option. I didn't have a good sense for distance as it was on the range with range balls.
@ Chef23
I've been pondering a TSi3 20º hybrid, but haven't had chance to hit one yet. When you say it didn't give you the height you were looking for, was the flight unusually low for a 3h, or just lower than what you wanted? Appreciate your feedback.
