The contenders didn't really put there drives into a position where they could go for the green in 2 though

They didn't even hit driver, so they took that out of the equation before they got to the 2nd shot. I dunno, I think it would be more exciting if they're given an incentive to hit the big one off the tee and have to make the choice for the 2nd.

CL, as TC says, I think he hit 3 iron and pushed it down right. I guess that brings 17 more into the risk/reward category than I'm giving it credit for.

That's why I think they need to remove the ditch in the fairway, give them the option to hit driver down there

I'm sure they'll be giving it a lot of thought anyway. Ernie doesn't seem to be scared to go for the changes on the course, and his ambitions are such that he'll want to provide a grandstand finish every year. This year's finish won't have hurt the tournament reputation though!
