Calling all past captains! Looking for advice on pairings for The Freaking Grandaddy of them all!

Last two years have been a combination of Shamble, Pinehurst and Best Ball matches

I would say it is good to combine someone who is long and maybe a little wild with someone who is straighter. I play in a foursomes competition with a buddy and he is longer than I am and we play pretty well together. On holes he tees off he gets me closer to the green then I usually am even if he is a bit more wild I get hit shorter irons in than I usually do. I am shorter but straighter. As a result he hits less club than I do and is in the fairway generally.

I think that works pretty well.
