Lift, Clean, and Place

Our course doesn't communicate anything with you so you're on your own when it comes to when it's "okay". The standard practice around here is LCP during non handicap posting season. So anything before April 1st and anything after October 31st is free game for LCP.

I don't think I've ever had my course "announce" LCP rules, but then again I don't play in anything competitive where it could be a factor. As others have noted, the "shoulder" seasons here in the north pretty much dictate that at certain times and in certain areas of the course you're likely to wind up with a mud ball. Honestly to me it doesn't mean anything one way or the other.

Actually, thinking about it the last round of golf I played last week in FL was on a course that had received 3" of overnight rain. It was CPO, and you could feel it walking out into the fairway that the ground was absolutely saturated. Yes, there were times where I walked up to my ball and could see black earth on the cover. IIRC I only picked the ball up once off the fairway to clean it off, and that was a substantial chunk of mud. Otherwise, I'll just play it as it lies - my game doesn't really demand perfect conditions.

Fine with it. We play LCP whenever it's wet, which is pretty much all fall/winter/spring.

No issue with LCP. It is nice being able to remove the mud off the ball if allowed.

It has been common during this monsoon summer we've experienced. Without LC&P, the course would have been borderline unplayable, and we would have played even fewer rounds. Casual water and mud balls is no way to play golf.

I’m fine with it, although I’ve never seen a course here with any notification to say it’s winter rules. We normally decide within the group. I only do it if there’s a sizeable blob of dirt on the ball though.

We might have 1-3 tournaments a year that are ball in hand in the fairways. Last few years, not as much as I would like because we haven't been getting enough rain. hopefully this winter we have 3+ tournaments we are playing LCP.

When the course is cart path only, there is usually a sign posted in the pro shop about it. Sometimes not because the lazy ass assistant manager (we have no pro) didn't post it.

I like it because I hate hitting out of the mud with a wad of mud on the ball.

I'll gladly take advantage of LCP when conditions warrant. It's very rare for us, though.

When the course decides the conditions require lift clean and place, how do you feel about it?

Are there ever times in your golf season where L/C/P is commonplace? (offseason, etc).
Thinking it should be LCP all the time - just like it should be "roll a ball out of a divot". :ROFLMAO:

It's been LCP for the last week or so. We've received a crap ton of rain lately and the course has been soggy. I don't mind it... but normally when it's LCP it means it's also Cart Path Only so you expect a slower round if you're riding.

lift clean and cheat when cart path only and official off season.

Define require? I’m in the grips of overseeding season. So when the let us back under CPO conditions it’s a mucky mess. But GREEN! Still No one requires lift clean place. But I sure would like too.

I don’t mind it, especially in saturated areas where there is standing water or pretty wet areas. Also like the ability to pull a plugged ball and clean it.

I’ve got no problem with it; part of the rules! And honestly there are a few times/places where it’s absolutely necessary.

I'm good with it. Who wants to play a ball stuck in clay or with a big glob of clay on it? No one I know. It only makes sense - the game is torturous enough without having to play with a sunken or lopsided ball.

Love it. Do it. Have fun.

I'm OK with it. Even when it's 100* and the sun has baked the fairways to concrete, I'm OK with lift, clean, place. I'm also OK with Winter Rules being in effect.:)

We have a constant debate about playing them up vs. playing them down. Sure our course gets a lot of rain, the grass in the fairway is often suspect, and the greenside Bermuda rough looks like a 70's porn flick... but that's golf! I vote to play play as it lies, but I'm in the minority - we are able to move it a scorecard length through the green.

LCP early or later in the season when it is really wet and balls are plugging and / or covered with mud. Dont mind and our Club has an email notification system for this and CPO. We play as long as we can and this ceases to be an issue when fairways get hard or freeze. And our posting ends October 31 and those of us who still play play for fun and we play a game based solely on birdies, we play from the forward tees , incorporate a persimmon driver you have to hit on a certain hole , and the option of using a 1 iron off the tee for extra points ( if you birdie the hole). We have a great time and will play in almost anything because it beats the alternative of not playing until it becomes impossible to play. And it is fun for us because it extends our season and we have a great time.

Lots of our tournaments and league play in the spring run the L/C/P because of recovery from winter conditions.

I'll do it when the course is absolutely drenched and thus nothing but mud balls. If I'm only doing it in the fairway I'll still post the score, if its everywhere I won't as I think it just makes you score so much better when you can fluff it up in the rough.

I generally don't even notice it unless there is mud on my ball then I think "crap this sucks, wait, I can clean this...". No big change on my game or anything and certainly don't mind if people take advantage of it when it's allowed..
Yep, basically this for me. For the past month or so we've had pretty soggy conditions so I've found myself noticing mudballs more. I don't think I've ever seen a sign or been told by the clubhouse that it's LCP. I just figure if it's CPO then LCP is a given.

Love it. There are so many courses now with overseeded that are just a muddy mess. I also play in a league that all of the rounds are LCP through the green. That means not hitting out of divots. If I can see mud on the ball or some damp conditions I am going to use it. If the course is dry and normal then I just leave it down.

We play for fun, not posting, so if it's wet enough to put chunks of mud on the ball, we know it right away.

They are allowing this at Torrey North right now since there are still some rough patches on the fairways from the US open. I personally love it and think it should always be the rules from the fairway. It solves the divot rule and makes sure people aren’t punished in the fairway.

As long as the rules are the same for all playing it doesn’t bother me. Most the time I won’t do it anyways
