The downside of a long winter? You have a gorgeous putter at home, that you are stuck putting on a mat with.
Well, thats my situation right now, and for probably another month until the snow starts melting.
I have been rolling on a Putt Out mat since January, sometimes to just the mark on the mat, other times to the Pressure Putt trainer.
I hope that by this point I am fairly consistent with contact on the face, but when it does slip up, I still have a lot of confidence that the putts will be reasonably on target without much loss of pace. Am I seeing the full extent of the benefits of the Ai One Face at this point? I doubt it. Hoping it really comes clearer when I can start rolling longer putts outdoors in the spring.
Looks wise? Well I think it is one of, iff not the best looking putter I have ever owned. The finish, with its color changes between blue and black, depending on the angle the lights hit it, are really neat. The viewing window that shows you a peak at the backside of the insert, is a really nice touch.
The face, with it's differing milling patterns across the materials, looks very premium, especially close up. Odyssey could have done the same milling pattern across the face horizontally, continuing the insert pattern across the rest of the face, but they didn't and it looks incredible.
if there is one quirk about the look that I would change, especially on the 7S, there is the tiny piece of white odyssey swirl (bottom right of the Y on Odyssey)... every time I see it, I think it is a chip on the head lol.
My putter is paired with a StrokeLab SL90 shaft, and a Blue Lamkin Deep etch grip. In hindsight, I wish I had gone with the stock grip offering to give it a try. Other than that, I feel like the pairing feels/functions well, nicely balanced, and frames the ball very nicely at address.
At this point I am really just itching to start hearing putts hit the bottom of a cup, see how the ball really reacts on mishits (especially fron distance), and just see what sort of roll is put on the ball outdoors.
Spring is coming, well eventually anyways, and when it does the Ai One 7S hopefully has me draining more putts
