I don't think "stay above the hard deck" is an actual quote from the movie. I just went through the whole script and there's much talk about the hard deck, but "Get your butts above the hard-deck and return to base" is probably the closest quote I can find. The "Jester's dead" quote is "Maverick: Jester's dead, yahoo! Goose: Jester's dead, yeehaw!"

I believe the quote was “the hard deck for this op was 10,000 feet. You knew it and broke it after jester lost sight and called no joy”. Maverick say they were below the hard deck for only a few seconds. Then he is yelled at in that he broke a major rule ...

I would go with movie song titles

“Danger Zone”

“Unchained Melody”

“Take My Breath Away”
 
I doubt James will want to stamp an entire long quote on his wedge. So just "Hard deck" is still useful.

The key words from any of the lines work as everyone who is a fan should recognize where they came from. And those who don't should remain clueless.

The 50 is set, it's a modified quote, but it fits my needs, Too close for missiles, switching to guns.
