I usually don't have a problem because I rarely play with strangers. In a recent game with old buddies who haven't played in a while, we used a high-low team match play type of game. The best and worst player of the foursome teams up, while the middle two team up. High score of one team versus the high score of the other team, and same system for the low score. Count the points and tally at the end of the front nine. Whoever wins most points wins the front nine. On the back nine there's an opportunity to switch partners and a new count is made. It's the easiest system for us without having to use handicaps.
