The Guitar Appreciation Thread

I've had a small collection of electrics for 20+ years. Mostly vintage Fenders with some slightly more modern (read: 80's Fat Srats) thrown in. I'd post pics, but they are all in storage at the moment as I am in Europe for the foreseeable future.

I did get a hankering to pick something up while I'm here, so last week I ended up with this beauty.

1960 Fender Stratocaster Custom Shop Special Heavy Relic
Olympic White on top of 3 Tone Sunburst with an incredible bound neck.

You just don't see Strats with bound necks - had to have it. Cost me a bit more than I wanted to spend too!

I don’t have anything fancy made of super rare expensive wood. Just wanted to get that out of the way right now.

These are my main 2 guitars, the Pacifica has a Hot Rails in the bridge position and is usually tuned to drop C. The Epi Les Paul is my main workhorse, picked it up brand new around 12 years ago. Sustain for days.

I just sold this Strat earlier this year. Looked great. Sounded clean. Hated the neck. So I never played it.

Not pictured are my Peavey Foundation bass or my Ibanez acoustic.

Big fan of the Epi LP especially in Cherry Burst. Love it!

My favorites - Fender American Standard Strat; Gibson Blues King and Gibson 335 Custom Shop; Gibson SG

i have a prs hollowbody ii from the early 2000s. i’ll try to get a pic up.

back in college i had a les paul gold top that i regret selling for pennies on the dollar.

when i have time to play again and get back into it i want a nice 000 style acoustic, and a few more electrics. another prs, a classic les paul, and an american standard strat. i do love suhr as well.

I have been dreaming of a PRS Custom 24 since I was 12, preferably a flame top in translucent green.... but every time I buy a new guitar I go with something else. Maybe the PRS is my unicorn, and I'm afraid of actually owning one, as it might not be as special as I think.

This is my main player (more like tool around when I'm bored) which currently lives in a (hopefully properly climate controlled) storage

It's a bit of a Frankenstein - a 1959 neck on a 1962 body with new Texas Special pick ups that I had a relic treatment done to try to get the "Number One" look. I Added the stickers and the cigarette burns, and I think it looks pretty great.

I wasn't all that pleased with the finish, as they didn't really age it rather than just scrape and grind the paint, so I like to bang it around a bit in an attempt to really give it that SRV vibe.

Oh my…. @Space Bandito - this is gorgeous! I don’t even need it plugged in to know how it sounds. I love everything about it!

My guitar rack is amateur compared to what’s been posted…

- Yamaha RBX260. My first. Simple candy red electric bass.
- Cort Earth100 acoustic. Beautiful sounding dreadnaught.
- Squier Fender Stratocaster. Candy apple.

Purely a hobbyist/collector. I play guitar because I enjoy doing so, not because I'm great at it.
On the wall left to right - Charvel Pro Mod, Strat, Schecter C1 w/active PU's, PRS 24
Front - Ibanez hollow body, Squire Classic Vibe 50's (first run), Ibanez ARC. (not pictured Ibanez SA)
Just upgraded the ARC with SD Pearly Gates pups, a bone nut and black/silver knobs. It now sounds fantastic.

Love the colour of your Strat; such a happy vibe from that! And nothing like the shape of a PRS body.

Can't go wrong with Candy Apple Red!

prs has always been my holy grail going back to the 90s.

when i was turning 21 my parents offered to buy me my dream guitar. i did some research and landed on warrior. met them at a convention and played some of their guitars. toured their storefront. and started designing my custom model. the price was getting too high, but deep down i knew this wasn’t my dream guitar. so i found the hollowbody ii with a built in piezo.

ultimately it’s not the best guitar for the type of stuff i like to play. it’s not even the most comfortable guitar to play. in someone else’s hands i’m sure it would sing. but it’s beautiful and i love having it.

That 335 is gorgeous. I don't think that sound has ever been replicated.

Agree. The 335 with reverb from the Fender Deluxe is a sweet, sweet sound.

I can sure get behind this thread, nice gear in here already! When I get a chance I need to add some more pics, but what I have:

-PRS SE Custom 24 in whale blue flame. My main guitar. I love how it sounds for about 85% of what I play, but I can't quite cop single coil tones (no coil tap) and really chunky heavy stuff (thinking like Entombed-style ultra high gain).
-Schecter Diamond Series Gryphon 7 string in black flame. Play this when I want to get really heavy (sounds great playing melodeath for example). I picked it up for a song about 15 years ago, and it sounds good for what it is, but has a few issues and I'd like to get something nicer.
-Seagull SWS Maritime acoustic. Single cutaway with all solid wood, and a piezo pickup and onboard tuner. Absolutely brilliant guitar that I bought about 2.5 years ago. I honestly play more acoustic now mostly because of this beauty!

For amp, I'm running a Hughes and Kettner TubeMeister 18 head through an Orange 1x12 solid back cab with a Celestion Vintage speaker. On the board use mostly TC Electronic stuff (delay, reverb and tuner) along with a Tubescreamer that's almost always on at some level and occasionally a CryBaby wah and a mini Big Muff Pi.

I've been wanting a 7 string for a while. But every time I think of picking one up, I'm like "ok well how often would I REALLY play it..." and I don't.

For amps, I've got an older Blackstar HT-5 that I re-tubed to increase the headroom a bit and make the clean channel pristine. I've got a full pedalboard that I inherited from my brother's father-in-law after he passed, pretty much all Boss gear with the grail TS-9 in there too. The amp is great for Marshall type distortion, if I want to get into high gain territory I'll go to an amp sim. Fluff's Roots amp from ML Sounds is one of my go-tos along with the Sigma from Audio Assault.

The 7 string is fun but I'm right there with you. I play it occasionally when I want to rip through some Amon Amarth or In Flames tunes, but it's not as common as it should be. I think what I'd be more likely to do longer term is set up a metal focused 6-string with heavier gauge strings and downtune it to Db or C standard. I've had my eye on the ESP LTD EC-1000 with the Fishman Fluence pups for some time for this purpose.

The Blackstar HT series amps are awesome for the price! I almost picked one up but ended up with this setup because they had it lightly used for a great price at Guitar Center. The Blackstar does that Marshall type roar a little better, where the H&K sounds a little more modern and hi-fi - though it can cop an acceptable 70's Marshall tone if I run the TS-808 into the low gain lead - but the high gain lead channel absolutely rips for a Mesa style high gain, particularly if you tighten it up with a TS into the front. It still doesn't have quite the punishing buzzsaw crunch to do death metal (though it will do melodeath), but for most metal it's great.

I really have to look into an amp sim or distortion pedal for that kind of stuff. Will check those ones you mentioned out, but I'd love any other reco's on absolutely punishing distortion pedals.

currently I have two, my Yamaha Electric and the Fender Acoustic Elec

I played when I was younger, into my early 20s, then in a work accident I lost the better part of my left index finger, and quit playing. I decided to pick the guitar up again a few years ago, just for fun, as I don't have the ambition to really put the work in to relearn enough to get any good. I tell people I make noise with my guitars, not music, but I have fun playing around with alternate tunings that allow me to play a little bit with just simple bars and three finger chords that don't require much reach.

So I've got an old inexpensive Fender acoustic, an Agile LP knockoff, and my pride and joy is my G&L Legacy Strat.

Not very good photos, but here are the G&L and the Agile:

My collection is nothing special, they're all lower-tier models from various brands (Fender, Gretsch, Schecter, Epiphone, Taylor, etc.). I just play for enjoyment, not because I'm any good at it. I'll try to get a pic of a few of them soon, but by far my #1 favorite is my EVH Wolfgang Standard. I love the look, it plays great and I think it punches way above its weight class in quality (photo taken by Sweetwater Music, but it's my actual guitar, taken before they shipped it to me):

I mostly play through my Positive Grid Spark practice amp, since I'm playing at home at bedroom levels. I have a Deluxe Reverb and a Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr head with a 2x10 cab, but the only time those ever get turned on is if I'm home alone.

I was actually taking note last night of all the guitars and basses I've owned over the years. It's in the dozens. I currently have five basses and eight guitars. Not sure why, as a bass player, I have more guitars than basses, but there it is. Nothing really super special on the guitar wall. My favorite is a Jackson Dinky Reverse that I've had for about 25 years. It's starting to get some competition, though, from a Klein headless that I built from a kit a few years ago. Most comfortable guitar I've ever played.

Nothing amateur at all about those instruments.

I've probably already told this story, but the bass in my profile picture is a Squier Jazz bass that I bought off Craigslist for $100. It was supposed to be my rehearsal space bass, but turned out to be a better instrument than the '99 Fender Jazz I was playing at the time. I sold the Fender (neck was constantly moving) and kept the Squier. That picture is from a show at an Argosy casino with a Sammy Hagar tribute band I played with for about three years. That Squier bass played for 10s of thousands of people from Illinois to California over those years. I have a couple of much more expensive basses, but that one was the right tool for that job.
