The Road to the 2020 Grandaddy! Captain MattyD-MPLS aka Dimples

I turned 40 today so we headed to Vegas for some golf, relaxation and time away from the kids.

It is really hot for us Minnesotans when we haven’t seen much over 50 degrees for the last few weeks.

We played The Revere Golf Club in Henderson and was really impressed. The fairways were so much fun to hit off of. The just sat so perfect. There were some picturesque shots on the course but my phone died on the first tee. Here are a few from the round.View attachment 9007707View attachment 9007708View attachment 9007709
Happy Birthday!!!!

Happy Birthday and best of luck in Vegas

Happy 40th!

Looks like cap has a good round going this morning!!

Friday morning my brother and I headed out to TPC Las Vegas and I was blown away by the course. The views were spectacular. The condition of the course was perfect. I didn’t notice very many pitch marks on the green. The desert jumped up and bit me 2 times for a double and triple but I got a win after I hit an awesome pitch off the pebbles for an up and down. I also made an eagle on 4 which was nice.

After golf we went to dinner at Cleaver off the strip and I would highly suggest going there if you can. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was really cool. After dinner we went to see the show Absinthe at Caesar’s. The show was very good. I even got to have my first Karen in the wild moment when a woman got tossed out of the show 20 minutes in because she refused to wear a mask. Haha.

Today, we played Coyote Springs, a Jack Nicklaus course about an hour outside of Vegas. The course is in the middle of nowhere. The craziest thing about the course is the driving range, it is the 2nd largest range I have ever seen. The only one bigger is at PGA Village in Port St Lucie. The course is pretty easy off the tee but it has some serious teeth with the approaches. The bunkering was very intimidating with the placement and depth. It also didn’t help that the wind was blowing 20+ MPH. 😂😂

The picture with the 2 balls is me being excited for my wife. She hit a hybrid to 3 feet! Best shot she hit of the day.

I got to play league yesterday after my wife got the afternoon off surprisingly. I went out and got in a great warm up and headed to the 1st tee. Striped a hybrid and then hit a 54* to 15 feet and made it. Next hole I smoke a driver right where I intended to hit it. I then watch 3 players get some serious bounces and roll out so I took 1 less club and hit 60* to 15 feet again after it took a big hop forward. I had a slider and it caught the hole and it got sucked in to make 2 consecutive birdies to start the round. Things didn't go as well the rest of the round. I hit a chip to 10 feet on the next and miss the birdie putt. Snap hook one out of bounds on the 4th and make triple. Bogey the next 2 as well. 7 & 8 I hit 2 great approach shots and miss those too. 9 was a bad drive that lead to a par on an easy par 5.

Lost 3 shots Strokes gained off the tee and gained .5 shots on approach.. I haven't gained SG on approach since I started tracking the middle of the year. I just need to get the driver and irons to on at the same time. 39 +3 was the end result. It was very close to being something special.

Yesterday was one of the best days of driving the ball I have ever had. The Mavrik SZ is so good. We played a combination event for league which we play 3 holes of scramble, 3 holes of modified alternate shot(both hit tee shot and hit each other’s drive and then choose from there whose ball you will hole out) and then best ball. There was a strong wind the entire 9 of 15-20 mph. We birdied 4 holes and and had a few really good looks on 4 of the other holes that just missed. The only shot that was off line was a 7 iron on a par 3. 5DDE9579-C725-40D5-B5AE-F94870676FAB.png545AB366-EF47-4288-A766-BABBF8133218.pngC238543E-FF11-4BF9-BB5B-71B781262C51.pngEE063129-2A21-48A6-8D97-3834E5083699.jpeg

It is best since I have been since tracking stats last year.

Great stats there man! DIALED.

I am 1 week out from a State Am qualifier. I haven't had a ton of time to play golf recently. I played 3 rounds of 18 hole stroke play in the last month and a scramble with my dad and brother. I have gotten 9 holes here and there. I will be ramping up the playing this weekend by playing 36 on Saturday and playing in a tournament on Sunday and then another 9 holes or 18 on Tuesday before.

I played 9 of very good golf last night. My tee game continues to be very good. Gained 2.2 shots(According to Arccos) off the tee, my irons are where I need the most work. I am not giving myself great chances to make putts. I hit a 5 iron closer from 190 with 20 yards of cut than a 60* from 80 yards. I will be finding some time to work on the irons this week.

35 with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys last night.

I had an amazing weekend of golf! Saturday was 36 holes with THPers at my public favorite course in the Minneapolis area. The Meadows at Mystic Lake. The morning 18 got off to a very shaky start with hitting into hazards off the tee on 2 par 5s. I shot 78 with 4 penalty strokes and 2 3jacks. I knew if I could hit better tee shots it would be a much better round, which I did. I made 4 birdies and 3 bogeys and almost holed a flop shot for eagle on the last to get it under par for 1st time of the year.

Today we had a league round at my track. I played pretty darn good except for 4 penalty strokes. I limited the damage on 2 of them where I made a 2nd ball birdie on an OB ball and made a par on a water ball. Shot 73 (+2).

My partner decided turn into the best iron player in the world the last 4 holes! Had 5.5 feet for birdie on 15(190 yard par 3), 4 feet on 16(170 yard approach, 1 foot on 17(120 yards) and a foot again on the last(100 yards). He just missed his put on 15, but made the last 3. He also popped on 2 of them. 5 under on the last 3 for him. I shot even on the back but felt like a complete sled.

One of my college teammates flew in from Seattle to play with us today. I hadn’t seen him in almost 10 years. He moved to Amsterdam and then Thailand for work and just moved back stateside. He had one of the most “golf” shots of all time today. He toe chunked a wedge on a par 3 that hit a dry spot and bounced and ran 20-25 yards upto the hole. 1/8 of revolution short of making an ace. I gave him a high 5 but he laughed and said “I don’t deserve that!”

Today was something I was really looking forward to. I tried to qualify for the Minnesota State Am. I played league last night and putted it and hit it awesome. I was 2 under the last 8 holes for 1 under total. That was not the case today in regards to putting. I hit 9 fairways and 15 greens. 36 putts which is really not good!

I was in the game thru 6 holes at even par and then went 3 putt bogey - 3 putt bogey and double bogey on 7-9 and that was it. I would have had to shoot 31 to get into a playoff for the last 2 spots. I went 41-37 for +5 and 1 under get in a playoff.

It had been 10 years since I tried to qualify for something on the state level. It won't be another 10 years becuase it is too fun not to give it a go. I will be trying again next year.

Sucks on the tough day. Nice that you are back in looking to play competitive golf at that level.

I had a very weird night. On my way to league tonight I was rear ended in my car I bought 3 months ago by a kid that wasn’t paying attention. I got to league about 10 minutes before my tee time and bogeyed 2 of the first 3. I caught fire on the last 4 holes and birdies 3 of the last 4. I did mix in a bad bogey on 8. I battled back to shoot even for the 9.

That’s some serious mental fortitude to finish strong like that with all the extracurriculars!

It was the craziest thing. I wasn’t even bothered at all. The kid felt so bad. Just hope his insurance is legit.

Thqt is nutty. Glad you are ok. Nice playing and way to finish strong.

Coming up on a fun stretch of golf. Next weekend is going back home for a fun weekend of golf with my dad and then 2 weeks later is the Grandaddy Gettogether in Chicago. I am going to work on my short game extensively this week. I want to wedge it close and roll putts in.

Have to brag about my wife a little! We are back in my home town for a tournament and we played a 9 hole practice round. On the 7th hole she lipped out for a near hole in one! It was coming up to the hole on the left side caught the lip and slip to the right of the hole.

I made a couple changes this evening.

I put the 4 iron in the bag for the first time this year and then went back to my Ogio Shadow Fuse stand bag.

While driving home yesterday I went through my round from the morning shot by shot. It got me thinking of tracking my shots prior to the green and if I pulled them off the way I wanted to. I just created a spreadsheet on excel.

Any thoughts on the info?
