I generally play Chrome Soft balls, so I headed to the Callaway website to check how much a dozen new balls would be. I even had the notion to throw a custom logo on it since the upcharge is pretty minimal. $48.99... ok not atypical for a good ball.
Then I headed to a site I've used in the past that sells used balls. $18-22 per dozen, though of course they aren't going to be 2018 Chrome Softs. Likely 2016, but maybe 2017. Honestly I have no idea how much that matters, and for my level of golf, probably not at all. I picked up 4 dozen Chrome Softs, 1 dozen Truvis red/white, and 1 dozen Truvis yellow balls for $110. Just a tad more than 2 dozen new balls, and these are "mint" so no visible scuffs or marks.
Anyone had issues with used balls in the past? At least for "mint" quality, am I losing distance / control unknowingly because they aren't new? For less than half the price, I have no qualms playing a ball with a random logo on it, which you get with used balls, as long as the quality is 98% the same as a new ball.
