Sybase Classic (with spoilers)

That's no fun.

If I'm a thirteen year old boy, why does my shirt color matter?

(Given that I have an 11 year old son, this is getting extremely weird.)

Good point. I forgot your true identity. So rain on Thursday? How's the rest of the weekend look for the tourny? Are they calling for downpours or just drizzle?

On and off until Sunday, when there are supposed to be thunderstorms. :at-wits-end: Boo Girl is so excited about going on Sunday to see PAULA CREAMER in person. If it doesn't happen, I don't know which of us would be more crushed.

I would love to meet her also. If Boo gets to meet her, tell Boo to tell Paula that Bogeyme said Hi. I hope the rain misses you and you and Boo have a good time.

And pass along my digits to Jeehae if you see her. :call-me: Thx.

Hey Claire - No internet access in our hotel so I'm posting from the NY Library - Hope to see you Thursday rain or shine - Got something for your daughter - sshhhh - let it be a surprise.

You're a doll, Ricey! No pairings available yet, but I'm supposed to be with the 8:10 group off the first tee.

I just hope the rain predictions are wrong.

Really looking forward to this! CfC and Ricey with reports from the front lines. :D

Me too! I just hope I'm not doing the drowned rat thing again. I have never been so cold and wet in my entire life.

Pairings are posted, and it's safe to say I won't be anywhere near a television camera.

Thursday's group: Chella Choi, Michelle McGann, Mika Miyazato

Friday's group: Karin Sjodin, Stephanie Louden, Jeanne Cho-Hunicke

WSE, you might want to stalk take a look at Stephanie Louden: Stanford '01 in Sociology.

I've heard of McGann. Wasn't her thing hats? I think she was fairly good in the '90s.

She's probably the biggest name. Hats are still her thing; this is her photo on the LPGA website:

She's also the one sporting the pink version of Rory Sabbatini's rhinestone skull belt. I still want that belt. Here's Rory's version:

QUOTE]

M. Miyazato had 2 Japanese press women following her every move at Kingsmill. She's got game.

Karin is a doll. Very sweet, as is Jeanne.

Claire, you're in for a fun time.

Stephanie Louden is a cutie.

Coverage on ESPN2, so no broadcast tomorrow, and carpy non-HD coverage Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Can't wait until coverage gets back to Golf Channel.

YOu and me both Harry.

Claire how fun, I actually keep an eye on Jeanne Cho-Hunicke. She was one of my favorites for the Big Break.

Helen Alfredson with a huge -10 in the first round. Brittany Lincicome at 8 under and Suzanne Peterson at -7. I would like the see Suzanne win one, it is time for her to get back on track with winning some tournaments. This could be a ridiculously low winning score this week!

This will probably be disjointed, but here goes. Thanks to some last minute changes at the line of scrimmage, I went out with a different group this morning: Angela Park, Sun Young You, and Brittany Lang. All are 3-4 year players on the LPGA, each with a handful of top ten finishes under her belt this year.

It was spitty rainy, so to cover my pressure paper & tear off strip scoreboard, I had a large zip lock bag on it from the bottom up and a huge zip lock bag from the top down--so I could slip my hand in, manage to write, and keep it all dry. Total nonsense.

For the most part, everyone was playing steady golf. It has seemed to me that what distinguishes this level of player from the very top tier is the missed birdie opportunities, particularly with putting. Both Angela and Sun Young were hitting crazy percentages of fairways and GIR, but not getting birdies. On the back nine, Brittany got really hot--four birdies in a row.

Random observations: Angela was the shortest driver of the three but could dial it in when she needed to. Sun Young has an adorable Rocky & Bullwinkle putter cover for her Scotty. She seemed to be having problems with course management--couldn't shake off her bad holes quickly. At one point, she was +3. Her caddy set her up for her shots. I'm always impressed with how protective caddies are of their players. Yes, it's part of the job, but they really are a team.

On my way to the tee, I walked past the driving range. In order: Gulbis, Wie, Creamer, Pressel. Wie is drop dead gorgeous in real life and had a police guard following her. I've never seen that before. Stalkers?

Helen Alfredsson was two groups behind ours, so I watched her come in. If you don't know her history, she was the real party girl on the LPGA in her 20s. Broke up a marriage, drove race cars, really wild. She is tall and slender and gorgeous. She doesn't walk--she moved along the fairways like she was stalking her prey. I have a serious girl crush on her.

Despite my change of schedule, Ricey found me at the fourth or fifth hole. That woman is good! Also lovely and delightful. She was very consdiderate, letting me count putts before trying to chat with me. We didn't have enough time to get to know each other well, but she's been reccruited to help tomorrow, so we should get another chance. It's always fun to meet a virtual friend in real life. Ricey was kind enough to bring Boo Girl some presents; I'll post a photo in Boo's thread.

Sadly, I had to get to work for a couple of hours, so I didn't get much spectator time. Particularly considering the weather, I was pleased with the body count on the course. There were some sizable crowds following the biggest names.

Ask questions; I'll answer. No doubt I've missed loads--I wanted to take notes, but it was just too awkward.

Thanks for the update Claire. Love to hear reports like this, but even more wonderful to hear a THP virtual friend was great to meet.

JB, how could that NOT be the case?

Is Angela Park's swing as perfect as it looks on TV?

Wie still has the Harry Patrol police escort, eh?
