TaylorMade Tour Preferred MC Review Thread

I went to Carl's Golfland this morning to get fitted for a set of MB irons and combo them with MC 4 & 5 irons. As soon as I hit the MC 4 iron I wanted the entire MC set 4-PW. I loved how smooth they felt and how straight they flew. I could hit them high and low with ease. I traded in my Nike VR Split Cavity irons for these babies and I'm so glad! I took them straight to the course for a rain shortened 9 holes and shot 32 (-2). Now that score may not be spectacular as I could shoot that with my Nike irons. The difference was how much easier it was. Far less scrambling. I hit 8 greens in regulation but was often out of birdie range because I was always one club too strong. I'll dial everything in on the range tonight and can't wait to game them for 18 tomorrow. I wasn't very impressed with the look of the MC's pictured on websites, but seeing them live is a different story. I love the way they look, especially the gray weight as opposed to the red weight on R11 irons. Right now my favorite playability aspect of these irons are how accurate they are off the tee on par 3's. And I can't overstate how smooth these irons feel.

Wow congrats! to this day I should have waited a month before buying the burner 2.0 I have, I aways wanted the MC and I'm glad you like them! I'll be looking at them again they were my favorite to hit just didn't want to spend 800+ on them

They are a little pricey. The 4-PW was about 120 less than the full set and I was fortunate to get a lot for my trade-in. Wiping the clubs after each shot may have actually paid off!

I had my dad (26 hdcp) hit my MC 7 iron for giggles. He was scared to try it because he's used to his humongous full cavity irons. He actually hit it pretty good despite the shaft being way too stiff for him. That told me that these clubs must have some forgiveness.

I've played 54 holes with the MC's and continue to shoot in the mid to low 70's. These irons are so easy to hit. My new Ping Anser wedges have been a very nice complement with their amazing feel and distance control. It took me quite some time to arrive at my current bag. I can see why Dustin Johnson dabbled with the MC's and I'm glad I chose them over the nice MB's.

Although I'm still in the honeymoon phase, I can finally focus on golf now that my bag is set.

Every time I see these in someone else's bag I just think about how much I wish they'd have been "the ones" for me! Just the hands down sexiest irons that came out in 2011.

Tapping till 12-21-2012

These MC's clean up nice. When I wash them after each round there aren't any ball marks on the face. I've never seen that happen. People are even asking me about these clubs on the practice range. The sound gets them noticed then the looks draw them in. It seems they rarely see Tour Preferred irons of any kind. It's funny when they're amazed that the weights aren't red.

I'm also getting nice spin from the 7, 8, 9, and PW on the greens. I had two 8 iron approach shots spin back 3 feet. Truly a nice surprise! I'm finally able to aggressively attack the pins instead of having to factor in so much rollout. I never got that kind of spin from my Nike VR's.

Shot 71 today and I'm uber thrilled! My handicap finally dipped below 6. These MC's are performing better than any set I've ever had and their distance consistency continues to impress me. I FINALLY have an entire bag of clubs that fit my game. I was wondering if it was ever going to happen. I've been through so many over the years. I'm just so proud of these irons.

Hi all, newbie here. Forgot to subscribe as I was too busy reading all your posts lol

Anyway, great job guys and has now led me to place an order for a set of MC's :) Gettig them on Monday with S300 shafts that are also being Pured. As yet, I've only hit the demo 6 iron, but even with that, I nearly got a hole-in-one after spinning the ball back 12 feet lol unfortunately leaving me 9 feet short and missed the putt haha

Cant wait to get these out on the course to see if I can get as much enjoyment as the rest of you guys have had :)

Very cool! Throw some pictures up for us when you get them. We love club pics. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on them

Will do. I only started playing again a few months ago, got myself a set of burner 2.0, but although they hit big, accuracy and consistency wasn't spectacular. Shortly after getting them, I got a new customer in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, called Golf Ballistix who specialise in Taylormade and more so, Miura, so I've had the fortune of being able to use their trackman to see what I was hitting best, and the MC's seemed to be the best. My ball striking wasn't consistent enough to justify a set of Miura's lol

What does intrigue me is how differently a Pured shaft will play.

Will definately post pics when I pick them up. They're in stock but have to be built up to my specs.

Newbie here as well. Just bought these used in a combo set (3-6 MC, 7-PW MB) with KBD Tour X-Stiff. Hoping these arrive today. Been playing J33 Combo for the last 4 years and interested to see how these compare. Developed a hosel shot that I'm not too proud of lately. Not sure what's going on yet, but trying to figure it out. Just recently strengthened my grip, so that may be part of the issue. Love my J33s, but it's time for something new. Plus now I can turn the Bridgestones into my winter set. That's the nice thing about Cali. Golf all year. :act-up:

I'm really hoping these are the irons of my dreams!!

TheCoup & Edsfrow,

You will LOVE these irons. They are so smooth to hit and very consistent. I initially went to get fitted for the MB's and tried the MC's and some other brands just for comparison. The MC's really stood out in performance. They have just the right amount of forgiveness that doesn't take anything away from feel or accuracy. I walked in from the range, put the MC demo clubs on the counter, and said SOLD!

I didn't have my MC's S300 shafts PUREd, but they are the most balanced and consistent performing combination I've ever played. Maybe that's one of the benefits of Tour Preferred clubs.

Another update on my progress with these SWEET irons. Recap: I purchased these at the end of May. When I purchased them, I KNEW that they were made for a player with a MUCH lower handicap than I. Don't even really know what my handicap really is actually. Over the course of the summer, with a couple of minor instruction sessions with a friend that has worked as a teaching pro, I have come to the conclusion that I have NEVER known how to properly swing a golf club, in 15+ years of playing the game. I have been a real hack. Recently I seem have been making some what appears to be significant progress. My weakness in my last round was my putting. but my irons and even my driver where working great. Still work to do with my swing (isn't there always), but my ball striking is starting to feel correct more often than not. I am leaving hefty amounts of ball cover on the face of my clubs, which tells me that I getting lots of interaction between the club face and ball. Because of the extraordinary feel (and sounds) that these clubs provide, I am able to identify where on the face I have contacted with the ball. As I am making more progress with my swing, my distances are going up, consistency is on the rise. I am no where near to fully utilizing these clubs, but I am getting closer. :act-up: In my case its not the arrow (ball) or the bow (club), it really is all on the Indian. I could not be happier with the purchase I made or the reasoning that I used, that I would have to learn how to swing correctly. I have a distance to go, but I am extremely happy with the progress I am making. The way that I describe the sound that is made with a well struck shot is to say "that it sounds like the ball is letting out an OOFFFF!"

Passed by these last night at Dick's. Man, I'm always stunned by how nice looking these sticks are. I guess these will get lost in the Rocketbladez shuffle but I would love to try these out sometime.

About a month ago, I briefly owned the rocketbladez tour irons. After about four rounds of not being able to control the trajectory at all, I began searching for replacements out of pure frustration. I stumbled upon this thread and over the course of two days, I had read every post by those lucky enough to have the opportunity to test them. After reading about the lower trajectory the testers were able to achieve I decided to take the rocketbladez back and pick these up with the store credit I was given. I am a believer! These babies are sweeeet! I love the ability to keep the ball down as many of my rounds are played in the late afternoon after work and I was having trouble keeping the ball under the wind. I did experience about a 5 yard distance loss in my scoring irons, but being able to control the flight of the ball, the accuracy i gained is so much more valuable. So I just wanted to say thanks to g4l and setho and everyone else who provided such detailed feedback on these clubs...

nice man. They are a good set of irons and I enjoyed my time testing them. However at the time they just were not best for my game. They certainly do keep the ball lower which is nice. Good luck with them and keep us up to date with your experiences.

Just bought a set of the TP MC's this morning after I tested them earlier this week. I cant wait to play a round when they come in! I have been using replica r7's for the past 5 or so years, and I hit them very well. I figured that a set of true irons would improve my game even more. I'll be sure to write a full review on the club after a couple of rounds.

Congrats Breezy and NicJack on your purchase! Still playing mine (for a little while longer) and still once of the best irons I've owned for my game. Hope they bring you much success!

So I've had my TP MC's for a week now, and I am still getting used to them. I hit them much better than my older irons, but I tend to pull the short irons a little. A couple more rounds and I'll have them figured out!

The biggest thing I noticed is the difference in feel with my older irons, and the fact that mis hits have better flight and decent distance. I have been killing my longer irons, which is something I couldn't do with my older set. I don't know if its mental or if it is actually the club. But overall these are great clubs and I think I will be playing these for a couple years.

Was on the bay looking at clubs and saw these pretty cheap so Im gonna go ahead and grab a set for the summer house. Looking forward to trying these as a backup set. Hope I am half as happy as some of the people posting in here

Can anyone compare these to the new x forged?

The biggest difference I noticed was how heavy the head felt with the X Forged. Both clubs performed in a similar way in a side-by-side with the X forged having a bit of a higher flight. I really felt better with the MC's, but they weren't part of the trade in deal the Galaxy was running so I got the Bladez Tour, which are also really good with the C-Taper Lite shaft.
