I think its a common thing, someone starts of being seen in a positive or negative light only to be seen differently as time goes on.

So, for YOU, who has your opinion changed on for the better, and for the worse?

Better - Patrick Reed - Thought he was an ass initially, but the firey nature has come around for me, and the Ryder Cup showed he is as passionate as they come.

Worse - Jordan Spieth - HUGE fan initially, the great American Hope, but as time has gone on the whining and slooooooooow play has gotten old and frankly I'm pretty over him.

Jordan Spieth. Seemed like a good thing in the beginning, but what a baby. I'd prefer to watch tournaments without him. I'll save all the other 'rumors' for another thread.

Better - Kuchar. Wasn't really a fan of his until a couple years ago and all it took was seeing him in person and how he interacted with fans on the course and after rounds no matter what he shot. Lots of people give Phil tons of credit for this but Kuchar is just as good with the young fans of golf.

Worse - Spieth. How he acts and how he plays bugs me but the debacle of the Olympics and how he had talked so much about the honor of representing your country and all that jazz and waiting till the last minute to drop out was real crappy.

Who has your opinion changed about as time has passed?

Better - Stenson, initially i don't know what to think about him, but as the years have passed he's grown on me and I appreciate the way he attacks a course

Worse - Sergio. I kept outside hope he could turn the corner and become what I hoped, but he never has IMO. Great golfer, just doesn't move the needle for me.

Better - Stenson, love the consistency and precision of his game
Worse - Spieth, I feel there is a whinny little B inside that balding dome

Better- Rickie- I used to think that he was just a doof, but I've grown to respect the work that he's put in, and like how he interacts with the younger fans.

Worse - Day and Luke Donald. Luke mostly for his disappointing play... about 5 years ago he looked primed to become a big contender, but none of it has materialized... Day just because of his stance on slow play and the disconnect between the pro and amateur game... the pro game won't be very lucrative if people stop watching, playing, and buying equipment

Better - Bubba. He hits the ball far and is fun to watch. I think he's a bit of a jerk personality, but I really like watching him move a golf ball.

Worse - Jack Nicklaus. He's a self absorbed curmudgeon. He's more concerned with how the game was, not how it can be.

Better - Stenson and Patrick Reed. Thanks to seeing Stenson's humor side on social media has definitely helped me like him more. I thought Reed was a little too arrogant when he first got on the tour, but I think that has mellowed a little bit.

Worse - Bubba. Was a fan of him in the beginning for obvious reasons, but the antics on the course have gotten old.

Better- Patrick Reed, Ryder Cup performance was the absolute best. Matt Kuchar seems to always have a good time and interacts with the fans.

Worse- Spieth, grow up already!

Better - Sergio. For awhile there I thought he was just an odd duck saying weird things at bad times but lately I find myself cheering for him. He seems like he finally grew up and "get's it" now and I want him to win that Major Championship.

Worse - Jason Day. I used to love cheering for JD but lately I find myself annoyed that he's even on the leaderboard. Unapologetically slow, and I have a suspicion he's a dick masquerading as a nice guy.

Better: Bubba Watson - kept his head down, went to the Ryder Cup as an assistant.

Worse:Stacy Lewis watching her play it's like she doesn't even enjoy it.

Better - Stenson (thought initially had no personality), Phil..... for some reason I really just wasn't a Phil fan, but really enjoy watching him now.

Worse - Bubba, Speith, and Day. Attitude, slow play, and complaining. All get on my nerves.

Better:

Sergio. The caveat being that I still don't like him but I don't find myself audibly saying nasty comments about him either. His whining always aggravated me but when he spit in the cup, I wanted to jump through the TV, grab him by the collar and stick his nose in it.

Now, I'm somewhat closer to neutral. Don't root for him but I take no personal satisfaction with his failures either.

Worse:

Tiger. Always marveled at his greatness and his demeanor. Loved watching history unfold. But when Stevie's bullying tendencies went unchecked by the boss, my opinion began to change. Inaction equals approval in my book. Then when the sensational meltdown occurred, I slid to the other side.

Character matters to me. I'm aware that there's a public persona and a private persona with most people. Only I found his private behavior to be disgusting to me as a married man and father. A man adheres to his obligation or respectfully bows out if necessary.

I still won't ever root against him, I'll instead hope that he has or will change so he can be the best father possible.

Better: Bubba and sergio ( let
ting that guy caddy is pretty awesome in my book!)

Worse: Day and Spieth. Pick up the pace and quit the whining. Still think they are great youngs guys off the course.

Gonna pick some different folks than many

Better: Kevin Na. The guy had the worst pace issue on tour and a bit of a sour attitude. He obviously took note. Seems his attitude is better. His pace is on the faster side of average and he clearly has the ability to make fun of his past. Got to give him credit. Hard to look at yourself and admit you need to change. He went out and did it.

Also want to give DJ some credit. Dude had a bad rep for multiple reasons. After his return his game is better and he seems to be a respectable family man. Gotta hand it to him

Worse: Tom Watson. The behavior he was guilty of at the ryder cup is so disappointing. At a time when the US needs to solidify and come together he was a cancer to that team. But I suppose we should thank him. He's a big reason for the process they created to make the US more competitive

better, Patrick Reed, I do think arrogant should not be mistaken for intensity!

worse, Bubba and Johnny Miller, I just can not warm up to those two!

Better- Stenson, I did not like home years ago but I really enjoy watching him play and pound the 3 wood.
Worse- Fowler, idk why but his game just annoys me now.

Better: Henrik, at first seemed like a stiff, but he has a great dry humor. P Reed, seems to have grown up a bit. He's got spirit.

Worse: Day, tired of hearing about his tough life. We all have challenges. Ya, the slow play comments don't help.
J Thomas, heard stories of him being a real jerk to fans. Also saw an interview which showed him in the light of having no personality.

Worse:
- The R&A and USGA. To reuse an old line, these guys would screw up a wet dream.
- Lydia Ko. The story about her dad being intrusive and Ledgetter getting canned didn't come off well for her.
- Jimmy Walker. He sucked every week I picked him in fantasy golf then wins a major when I didn't and also played well in the RC. Bastard.

Better:
- Phil. He was the bitchy complainer with a losing record, then he backed it all up at the Ryder Cup
- Reed. I was in the minority that already liked him. The way he stepped up at the challenge at the Ryder Cup was awesome.

Better: Paul Casey: Always thought he was a d-ck with his comments several years ago just before a Ryder Cup, but I genuinely like watching him play and realize he's very much a good guy.

Kenny Perry: When he was on the PGA tour many moons ago, just rubbed me the wrong way, but as he got older, he got more personable, was awesome at Valhalla and I love watching him on the Champions Tour, doing some of the best interviews and has a great outlook.

Worse: Keegan Bradley: The guy was an up and comer with a lot of fight, then turned into an underperformer with a lot of tics and quirks.

Dufner: Dunno, just feels like he got too sucked into social media and lost a lot of focus too quickly. The disappointment affected me.

what a great thread. After reading all of these most of my thoughts have already been said.

Bubba Watson - Really liked him early on. Self taught, grew up poor and made a name for himself. But after seeing his tirade against his caddy a year or so back I lost a lot of respect for him.

Jordan Spieth - Really liked him and still do somewhat, but dang quit being such a whiner and pick up the pace.

Jimmy Walker - Never really knew a lot about him but he seemed kinda stuck up imo. Over the past2 years I guess I have seen interviews with him and watched a inside the pga tour on him and he is a really good guy. I like rooting for him now.

Rickie Fowler - Couldn't stand the outrageous outfits, the bushy hair and the pornstache. But he has won me over. With all the things he does with kids and the impact he has towards growing the game I really like him now.

Ian Poulter - Never have liked him and most likely never will. What a self absorbed prick!

Better = Gerina Piller. my god she is sexy as hail.
Worse = Hideki Matsuyama although I admire his swing. Why do I have to wait 90 seconds to see him take it? Of all the slow play talk on here. He is the worse for me personally.

Better: Patrick Reed and DJ. Yeah Reed may be a bit of a prick (at least from a golf fan perspective), but he was an absolute BEAST in the Ryder Cup and he made it must watch TV. For DJ, his nonchalant approach rubbed me the wrong way at first but he's grown on me. Dude is just a monster off the tee, and when his game is clicking he's damn near unstoppable. He's easily one of my favorite golfers to watch these days.

Worse: Bubba. Everything about him seems forced and phony, yet excuses are still being made for him. There's no doubt he absolutely pounds the ball, but yeah...I'm simply not a fan.

Better - Reed. I used to see him as a Richard with a bad attitiude but have really warmed up to him in the past couple of years as he whole persona has seemed to improve.

Worse - I will have to go Spieth here also due to his poor attitude when things don't go his way.
