The Cruise Thread

JB where you guys thinking about going?

Oh we are just talking. Not sure when, where or what. We have both traveled a lot in the past including cruises.
For us and our regular locale, the shorter destinations (less than 7 days) are less about the destinations and more about the ship and the company.

10-4. I am by no means a world traveler or expert but if you get a chance to cruise Alaska I highly recommend it. Best vacation I have ever had aside from my honeymoon (and it only wins because of my company).

Its a beautiful cruise and one I am sure at some point we will take.

My family and I have been on quite a few cruises. 2 out of NY to the eastern Caribbean an Nassau, 1 Boston to Bermuda, 1 Tampa to western Caribbean, Cozumel, and New Orleans, and 1 out of Puerto Rico. I skipped the one out of PR as the previous one almost tipped over leaving Tortola (listed 17*) after an auto pilot malfunction.
While I liked visiting the various places, and the on-board food, I didn't like that most destinations were only for 6-8 hours (exception of BOS- Bermuda) and the drink bill tends to add up to the price of the cruise itself as you only use your room card and not cash.
I went to an all-inclusive trip 2 years ago to Playa del Carmen and besides the food being somewhat bland, I liked that everything else was taken care of. That will probably be the way I go going forward.

On my iPhone T.. T.. Tapatalking away!

Had my 7 day cruise on the Celebrity Reflection booked for April. I'm not much of a cruise guy, but it was a gift to my girlfriend and I. Looking forward to it!

That is part of the Solstice class. supposed to be an amazing ship.

Watched some videos tonight on the Solstice class on Celebrity and the Freedom Class on Royal Caribbean. Both very different, but both awesome ships.

If you're looking Royal Caribbean, why not take a look at the Allure or Oasis of the Seas?

Both great ships and we are not against it at all. I should add we are just messing around and are not actively planning a cruise.
But if we do one next year, it will be 3-5 and not 6-10 and it is harder to find those ships in that time frame.

They are out there though. Celebrity is a big draw for the food however.

I watched a documentary the other night about all these recent cruise ships sinking and it makes me really nervous. Most of these captains and crew are extremely unqualified.

That's true, those two like the 7 day trip from what I've seen. Just takes patience to find the 5 day ones and then you gotta move pretty fast on it.

True. Had a great conversation with Canes yesterday and he is so helpful.

Very much so. I'll be giving him a call when we decide on doing one in 2014. I've pretty much decided I want the Allure or Oasis. I like giant massive boats that I can easily get lost on and that can easily keep me entertained when travel day boredom starts to set in.

Although now that I have a better idea how to play craps, I'll need to stay away from any and all casino areas.

Freedom line is pretty freaking massive too buddy. It was the biggest ships in the world until just a few years ago. Both have lines have their merits.

FWIW, they're all kinda massive to me. I'd be lying if I said the port you leave from wasn't factored in. Tampa and Canaveral make me happier than driving to Ft Lauderdale or Miami if I don't have to.

Freedom of the Seas had some really nice destinations and great prices set up for the rest of this year.

We agree there. I will do Ft Lauderdale for the right ship, for sure though.
GG and I have talked a bit about late 2014. Fall moving to winter time.
Its such a beautiful time to cruise.

Both are similar in guest capacity roughly around 3,000 guests. Solstice class is newer with the Reflection released October 2012. But what's cool about the Freedom class is the huge promenade in the middle of the ship with bars and shops. They also have the Flowrider which is a blast if you like surfing.

Right price and I'll go wherever haha.

I'm down for the winter cruises. If it breaks 80 l'll be confused. The water might be cooler, maybe?

we went on a cruise for our honeymoon 3 yrs ago.
we took Carnival Freedom out of Tampa. went to Cayman Islands and Cozumel.
it was a great time....but we were really just lazy and relaxed after months of wedding BS.

we saw that Oasis of the Seas...that ship was massive. made ours look tiny.

anyway...just make sure there's one of these on board:

I've been in the Southern Caribbean (Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, etc...) in December and it was 90+. Maybe they get a few weeks of cool temps?

That's about what I thought. I only had a concern about the ocean temp but that's not a huge issue, just a curious thought.

I am excited about a golf simulator. They better not close at 10pm or I'm gonna be super mad. Easy to go play 18 when the wife is asleep hehe

I believe RC has them and many Celebrity boats dont. There really are pros and cons to every ship. Like some of the restaurants on Celebrity look absolutely amazing.

To be honest, I get real lazy on a cruise poolside with a bucket of beer. Golf is the last thing on my mind lol.

The foodie in you must be going nuts. If there's randomly sushi on the boat... Oh man. Deesstrrrooyed. Throw prime rib in there and Mike Dean might just show up out of nowhere.

I went on Norwegian cruise line on the Epic. It was great, it has a lot of shows to see. It was the only cruise I have ever been on but we liked it a lot. I will say that I enjoy the all inclusives in mexico more than a cruise. I just don't like the fact that you get to the ports and you don't have that much time to look around. We did excursions at every port and by the time you get done it is almost time to get back on the ship.
