That's normal here. It's about 70% taxes too.

You might understand why we Europeans don't buy many American cars: they're just not fuel efficient enough. (Also build quality is shameful)

There's cars that do over 80mpg here!

It is still $3.539 ny my house, but I was driving somewhere today where it is sometimes up to 10 cents cheaper. SO I drove out there with about 30 miles left on my tank (only about 6 miles away), and it was $3.589 there! So I got five gallons and was cussing myself, hahaha.
