Southern Iowa Get Together Summer 2014

Played Honey Creek today. I spoke with the Head honcho. Mentioned a possible interest in Saturday October 4th for maybe 16 to 20 players in an unofficial THP event. She said she would give us the tee times first thing in the morning. Morning round and a replay for $37. She said Sunday the 5th is full with a course sponsored tournament. She said the only thing that might affect us is that if someone comes in with a tournament with like 100 players and wanted morning times. She said she really didn't think that would happen that late in the year. She said to let her know when we had a good idea of how many were interested.

I took pictures this morning. Deciding where to post them. Perhaps an Iowa in October thread?

i say post them here then if we decide on a date and all that we can throw a thread up

So is that 36 holes for $37??

Yes, $37 for 36 holes on Saturday. She originally said $29 then replay of $15 but then said she would just give the $37 rate.

Nice!! That's a dang good price for 36 holes.

I could probably find the fairways there!

Number 2 Par 4: Water off the tee not in play. Dogleg left with bunkers and the start of the dogleg.

Number 3 Par 3: Can play from mid 140's to nearly 180 yards. Sand front left catches a lot of shots.

Number 4 Par 4: Dogleg left. Large tree frames start of dogleg. Fairway bunker right. Large bunker front right at green. Left side of green falls off into a ravine.

Number 5 Par 5: Hard dogleg right off tee. Fairway bunker right and trees protect from cutting the corner. Easy to hit thru the dogleg and thru the fairway. Easy 2nd shot to lay up. Not much trouble around green unless left or long.

P.S. I realize some of the pictures are crappy. Did what I could looking back into the sun.

Number 7 Par 4: Straight away slightly uphill. Fairway bunker right for those that push the tee shot. Large bunker front right at the green. Very undulating green can lead to tricky putts.

Number 8 Par 4: Slight downhill dogleg right. Water left off the tee shouldn't be an issue. Large grassy bunker area left and grass bunker area and tree line right. Sand left and right and green. No room to go long as the rough will thank you for your donation.

Number 9 Par 4: Dogleg right. Water down the left side of hole all the way to green. 252 from Blue tees to the water. Long and daring hitters can attempt to carry the trees right and get right in front of the green.

Number 10 Par 4: This is where we start the tale of 2 golf courses. Where the front is open and flat. The back is narrower and downhill to then work back uphill. Number 10 has OB right by the driving range and I believe left along the edge with Hole 18. Slight dogleg right then downhill to the green. No room to miss this green with Ravine left and cart path and ravine right. One last chance bunker left of green before you drop off into the unknown.

Number 11 Par 3: Fun downhill par 3. Swirling winds can make club selection a tad difficult. All carry as you will probably get no roll upon landing on the green.

Number 12 Par 5: Creek runs in front of tees and down entire left side of hole. Large tree blocks right side of fairway. OB to the right of the tree entire length of hole.

Number 13 Par 4: This starts what I consider to be Amen Corner on this course. Get thru 13,14 and 15 close to par and you are doing well. This is also where you start back up the hill. Dogleg right with trees left and a large drop off right. Miss the fairway right and you will be adding up the strokes. Hillside comes in on the left to leave no room to miss left. Large bunkers right at green protect from the ball bouncing too far right. Undulating green makes for tricky putts.

Number 14 Par 4: Somehow this is the only picture I missed all day. Short par 4 that doglegs left and drops down to the green. The super adventurous can try to carry the corner of the trees and end up near or on the green. Not much room for error around green so it is a very risky play. Best bet is a hybrid or long iron to a very narrow fairway. Trees and hill on the left and a large hill that comes in from the right. Very easy to hit it onto the hill and it will hide in the long grass. Very little room to miss left or long. Bunker short and right of green.

Number 15 Par 4: Long straight hole. Hillside comes in on right and down the hill to the creek on the left. Fairway also narrows the farther you hit it. Very tough driving hole. Bunker front left at green and hill leaves very little room to miss right.

Number 16 Par 4: Tight dogleg left. Hill comes in from the left. Hole on right drops down to number 15 fairway. Is possible to hit driver thru the fairway right. Best play 3 wood or hybrid at the corner of hill on the left. left side of green falls off into nothingness. Not much room to miss long and while room on the right to miss the green it will make for a tough pitch. The course lost this green several winters ago and it is having a hard time coming back. Today was the best I have seen it since they lost it but it was still a bit thin.

Number 17 Par 3: Up the hill by cart to a medium par 3. Always seems to play longer than the distance on the card. Big bunker left catches you wild shot before it goes down the hill into the trees. Large green can leave you with a long putt.

Number 18 Par 4: Into the wind this can be a long hole. Water right starting about 150 yards out and runs the entire right side. Fairway bunker left will catch balls headed for number 10. Large bunkers right of the green and another on the left.
