Imagine you were about to play a course and the Par 3's, 4's and 5's were all setup to your perfect yardages. The numbers match up well with the shots you are comfortable with.

What would the distance be on the Par 3's?

What would the distance be on the Par 4's?

What would the distance be on the Par 5's?

How would you play each shot?

Hmmm, big assumption that I hit the shot I want. But, let's see:

Par 3's - 120y to 150y which is a full PW to a full 7i.
Par 4's - 330y to 370y which would be Mini followed by AW - 7i depending on hole length.
Par 5's - don't often hit them in 2 so let's go 480 max to allow me any chance of reaching in 2!

Par 3: 110-145...PW to 7I
Par 4: 310-350..Not hitting driver far at the moment so this allow me to go driver wedge up to 7I
Par 5: 400 lol...driver, heavenwood

these would change drastically when I get distance off the tee

2 feet for all... hehe
Don't want to get greedy

Par 3 - 140 - smooth 8i with tight dispersion
Par 4 - 360 - lot's of choices
Par 5 - 500 or less - with a good drive reachable in 2

Par 3 - 170 Yards - Hit it at the pin with my 7i
Par 4 - 320 Yards - Drive the green or come up short and use my 58 to get up.
Par 5 - 500 Yards - Driver 275 to 300 yards and hit a 4 or 5i into the green.

Well if I go with hitting them all in GIR they would be...

Par 3's - 135 yards, nice smooth swing with my 8i
Par 4's - 355 yards, Driver off the tee (about 225) then my 8 i (about 130 yards from the deck)
Par 5's - 465 yards, Driver from the tee (about 225), 5 hybrid form the deck (about 160), gap wedge on and close (about 80 Yards)

And that is only if I can execute all my shots well, and pull out my dreaded rights.

I'll go with a 50 yard window for each for my preferences on "perfect" yardages.

Par 3: 125-175
Par 4: 350-400
Par 5: 450-500

Shorter the better imo.

that is pretty much it for me, except that I won't hit a par 5 in two, so lengh doesn't matter

Agree with Hawk, shorter the better. 100 is a full choked up GW, 300 means driver-pitch, and 475 means likely driver then 3W or a hybrid depending on quality of strike.

Wow

Par 3: 115 to 160 - PW to 7i
Par 4: ~400 - Driver 240 and 7i into the green
Par 5: ~515 - I hardly ever go for the green in 2. So Driver, 7i, PW into the green.

Par 3 - 130. I'm really confident with my 50* right now.
Par 4 - Anything less than 450. Having to absolutely pound a drive to get inside 175 is silly on a par 4, IMO.
Par 5 - 450 - 510 (not uphill). If I pound one, I have a chance to attack it in two, or hit a FW and hope for the best.

Par 3s - 130, 145, 160 I can play pw, 9 and 7i
Par 4s - 390 driver pw
par 5s - 425 driver 7i

Par 3: 143 - 8 iron.
Par 4: 300 - 5 iron + PW
Par 5: 410 - 5 iron + 6 iron + LW OR 3H + 3H depending upon conditions.

Well, you asked for perfect.

Shorter the better imo.

Nailed it. If we're talking ideal, shorter distances like these would probably lead to the best scores for me.

For the par 3, depending on the layout it would either be a full 54° or easy 50°.
For the par 4, assuming it's straight, I'd probably go 3W or hybrid if it's a little tight, or driver if it's open. Then it'd be a wedge in.
For the par 5, again tee club would depend on how narrow the fairway is.

Makes you wonder why we all don't tee it forward?

This is the Internet, there is no room for good decisions, it just gets in the way of ego.

Par 3: 140 yds (nice smooth 8 iron)
Par 4: 390 yds (driver/~8-iron)
Par 5: Anything reachable with less than 3wood (~460 yds) or anything where I absolutely have to layup (520 yds+) but still have a full wedge in for my 3rd shot

Shorter the better imo.

I generally agree, except that it seems every course I play around here that has a 100 yard par 3 either surrounds it completely with hazard or has a postage stamp sized green. I find myself preferring some of the holes that are in the 120-130 yard range, but it might be more of a mental thing...

Par 3 - 150 yds
Par 4 - 410 yds
Par 5 - 530 yds. Gives me a shot at reaching in two if I hit a great drive, otherwise a nice lay up to perfect yardage (95 yds). Or, give me 560 yds, make me earn a nice par with two good shots from the tee and fairway, with a short iron approach.

I tee it forward

Par 3: 140 yards
Par 4: 300 yards
Par 5: 450 yards

Good topic.

Note - based on playing from the white tees

Par 3 - 125 yards. Full GW, which I hit as well as any club in my bag for some reason

Par 4 - 350 yards. Driver 225, GW 125. If I mis hit the driver a bit here, I still will have a pretty short iron to the green

par 5 - 500 yards. Driver 225, 5 iron 190, LW 85.

Chose driver on the 4's and 5's because I have a lot of confidence in this club - the G25 just seems to find fairways. And I know the LW on the par 5 may be a head scratcher, but I like, and am pretty good, with full LW shots. And I am trying to birdie most par 5's and I feel like I can stick the LW close

I go along with the shorter the better concept.
Par 3 = 140 or less
Par 4 = 350 or less
Par 5 = less than 500 yards because I'm not reaching any par 5's in two anymore.
