2020 Better You Fitness Thread

Put in 3 more miles last night. Going for 5 tomorrow.

New to the forum, but I wanted to get on to get your thoughts/opinions on GolfForever. I keep seeing their ads on facebook but not sure if anyone has tried it yet? Im looking for a fitness program with my gym recently closing (thanks CO-VID) and thought GolfForever looked interesting. Before jumping in on their 7 day Free trial - would love any feedback from those who have tried it...

Thanks

Welcome to THP! I have not used GolfForever, but hopefully someone can chime in. I do know some have used Fit for Golf, and it seems like a positive experience overall.

Well, I cut it short at 4 yesterday. Hoping for a solid week this week.
Do you go out with a specific mileage in mind, or do you base it on how you are feeling?

Little of both. I usually have a goal, but I will cut it short if I'm not feeling it. Doesn't happen much, but once in a while.

I was the same when I was running more. Go out wanting to get in 3. If I'm not feeling it, do 2, if I'm feeling good go for 4. I was never a pace runner, usually just running in training for soccer so never had much of a set plan. Just run

After looking it up just now, it seems I may be dragging a few more weeks. On redcrossblood.org, it shows that it take 6-8 weeks to replace the red blood cells lost during a donation. I did a double so I'm guessing it'll take me a minimum of 8 weeks and likely 12-16 to replace them all. Looks like I won't be doing a double again anytime soon. The good news is, if I can keep up decent mileage while I'm low on red blood cells, I should feel like Superman Flash once I have a full compliment of them again.

I squatted 410 for 3 sets of 5 tonight. Felt good. Did some lighter - faster - deadlifts as well. Felt good to train.

Got up early and went for a run, temperature was 16*c, a bit too muggy for me

Did just over 5k, knee ached quite a bit, can't wait for it to get better

Out again in a couple of days, time increases to 17 minutes x 3 with 1 minute walking in between.

Got in 3 more today. My limit might be 4-5 miles until I build up some more red blood cells. I'm beat.

Was raining today and cool so perfect opportunity to take Alfie out with me again for a run

I did just over 7k this morning in just under 1 hour. Took it nice and easy with a pace of 8.30 per K

Few days rest before going out again

I got in 3 miles again yesterday. Went out as soon as I got home from work. It was 95° out so I was tempted to just cut it off at 2 miles, but I pushed it out. Starting to feel better. Hopefully, it doesn't take a full 3 months to get back to normal.

Been upping the nightly yoga to 30 minutes. Wow, what a great way to work on balance, core strength, and just a great way to unwind at the end of the day. Still getting my pushups and some dumbbell workouts in, but need to do more of them.

I was hitting the gym hard for a couple months before the pandemic and after a slow start, enjoyed some pretty remarkable gains. Man, I love muscle memory! Only, at 52, I wasnt quite sure there be any memories left.

Once the pandemic hit though, I've nothing at home but was good for a few weeks in piecing together makeshift workouts.

Simulating kettlebell squats with a heavy toolbox, lunges, calf raises while applying resistance in a door jamb, rows, curls, shoulder extensions using an assortment of ammo cans, paint cans and the toolbox. That sort of stuff.

But my desire to do it at all quickly subsided and for quite a long while, the only physical activity for me would be golf.

Anyway, gym opened back up last Friday and I was back in it for the first time on Monday.

Worked out Monday and Tuesday, light but enough weight where I'd feel it. Started off with legs and I'd do a set for calves, and then more so, after every set on the leg-press.

Come Tuesday there was definitely some soreness in the thighs, hammies, glutes, but nothing in calves. So during Tuesday's workout, I hit calves but couldn't possibly have gone lighter as I used no weight at all.

Just bodyweight, slower motion, full stretch, hold the highest point of contraction for a second, many, many reps until near failure.

I. Can't. Walk.

Felt normal the rest of Tuesday, yesterday there was definitely some welcomed soreness.

Today I hobbled out of bed as if walking on scorched earth.

Schedule wouldnt allow the gym for today but I'm just happy that my delicate psyche, all too willing to blow the gym off over the past few years, clicked back into place with the desire to do it again.

Fingers crossed it continues.

I'm still not any better from my cervical spinal stenosis but I play golf anyway because it doesn't hurt much when I do. It's been over 14 months and I've been to 16 weeks of PT, Nucca specialist, and now an upper cervical specialist for 4 sessions. I'm not supposed to lift over 15 lbs. or do much over head stuff for 4 months. I'm so miserable from the pain and the only time I feel ok is with CBD/CBG flower and other pain killers. Anyone else had something similar?

Trained this evening. Did some higher volume squats, just to gauge ability, 365x8 and 295x12. I am going to run those out and see what happens. I then deadlifted a conservative 460x5, 495x4, and then 520x2. Got it done in under 75 minutes.

I was able to do some power snatches today. Weren't heavy. Weren't pretty. But my elbow didn't scream at me the entire time, so that's a plus.

That's good news!!

Traveling this weekend, so we'll see what I can get in. Might just take a weekend to relax and enjoy family.

Got up early today and did a 7k run. Was supposed to be raining, but not a single drop

Kept to my 8k / minute pace as it was rather muggy and my legs didn't feel like they belonged to me

Always feels good to get it in early!

Almost turned the alarm off and went back to sleep

Was pouring rain here this morning when I planned to run. Looks like I'll have to do it later in the day. Likely too wet to enjoy a round of golf anyway. I'll have to wait until Tuesday for that.
