40*F is okay if no rain or wind.

at 14 or so, I got bit by the golf bug BAD! My brother and i would play 36 holes Saturday and 36 on Sunday, more in the summer. So fall rolls around, then winter. it's 25° degrees when we head to the course on a frigid Saturday morning. Pro won't let us out, too cold. I had no idea we could damage the grass...

I observe the old school thermometer tucked up under patio overhang on the north side of the building. I casually walk out, move the thermometer out into the Texas morning sun and go make a cup of hot chocolate. Came back a few minutes later to see it's now showing 45°. So I put back in it's normal spot and go get the pro's attention, he says "That's weird.. But, head on out, have fun!"

You could see our footprints on holes 1, 2 and 3 for about a week.

long story long, I'll play down to 50s if suns out.

I have a cart cover and a Mr. Heater. but if the temps start with a 3, I'm not playing. If it starts with a 4 then I'm on the tee.

-3 on sat at dundonald links no wind which was a bonus and the sun was out, the greens were like concrete tho and made you really think about your shots, interesting golf to say the least , enjoyed it

Yeah when I used to play on the course that was open year round and the greens were frozen, you’d always want to club down for sure, lol. If you made the mistake of going long and flying onto one you’d get to see your ball bounce like it hit a trampoline.

I’m surprised one let you on it with frozen greens.

Year round player some years here in CT. 35 degrees without wind is doable. Im good at layering and a I’ll bring my golf balls in the house the night before. I’ll also use two of those hand warmers and wear two gloves too. These things make it more bearable.

I can do 30 with a little bit of wind. I bought one of those electric hand warmers to keep the hands warm. I can always wear more layers but my hands are what can keep me off the course. Luckily, down here, we don't get many 30's without some sort of rain so those conditions are few and far between

very nice!

we get a hard frost here in Tx and everything turns brown. nice to see some grass actually grows in those conditions. probably can't handle 100° summer afternoons tho...

Started this morning @ 36°F with 10 - 15 mph winds. Finished @ 50° F with 15 - 20 mph winds. Made for some interesting adjustments on club selection AND shot direction, as in punching a 5 iron under the wind 30° off line for a 100 yard shot.

Not my first choice of conditions, but it does make for a real challenge.

went out today and it was 39* at tee time. The main problem it was so foggy we could not see 100 yards ahead of us. The good news was we played nine holes in 70 minutes since there was no one ahead of us. We did play a two person scramble and shot even par 36 despite the fog and cold. Man did it just feel so much colder with the fog and no sun.

I played on a New Year's Day in central NJ with my duck hunting late father-in-law. It was 4 degrees F. Took the water out of play. Never again.

I will say that in terms of thinking about golf, 40 degrees in October is a lot colder than 40 degrees in April.

Below freezing and I am not a fan. Strange as I grew up with super cold weather. But prefer sweltering heat over the cold
