Lake Charles - 2014 THP Invitational #2 Sponsored By Bridgestone Golf

With this being a competition as part of our Invitational series you would be in the cart with your partner and I am not sure that would work out.

I'd Just get get her an extra cart. She knows she can't ride with me exactly on tournaments

Dennis: glad you are able to join in on this event, gonna be a fun one for sure!

Dennis, Check the hotel in the first page....THP negotiated a cheaper rate and it's where most of us are staying for that weekend.

Yea saw that still have plenty of time to decide if I drive over for the day or get a room. I've played Gray 10-12 times and the National 3-4 times both good courses. The perfect scenario would be talk wife into room at L'Auberge with their pool and lazy river for wife and daughter and board the dogs. But if that doesn't work, like I said I can drive there in less than 2 hours.

Gray is in a housing development they always have free range balls to warm up with, very big greens, the two par 5s on the front I wouldn't say are reachable, not that they can't be but for most it's a lay up especially #7 a forced carry over water. 10 can be reached with two good shots, 11 makes you choose off the tee driver over the water leaving you 50-70 yards or 5 wood left of water typically leaves about 120. 15 is a par 5 that can be reached, 16 is a par 4 if it's downwind some may consider driving the green but it's all over water (think bay hill on a smaller scale). every time I've played it the greens have been great.

national on Sunday is also a good new course the one thing I will say is parking there can suck. Their clubhouse as of October was still in a temporary building. Both courses greens run smooth and well, though no slopes as severe as come of the holes at Cowboys. No real elevation changes and both pretty open more trees at national than gray.

if I end up day tripping this one, if anyone is flying out of Houston and needs a place before or after Ive got 3 spare bedrooms someone can use if need be. Should be a fun trip, I may try to go over there between now and then and get on at Contraband.

We considered Gray for Sunday, but they're having a tourney. As it stands now, there's 4 of us playing Gray Thursday afternoon, a big group playing Contraband Friday afternoon & again for the Invitational, & another big group playing the National on Sunday morning.

Check out the extra rounds thread for the details of the extra rounds there. There are also some deadlines for signing up to get into the groups, so let us know in that thread as soon as you can when you know your plans.

So you're saying we'll have a gallery.

Hole 16 – Par 4. Your last chance for an “easy” hole before the closing 2 score wreckers.

#16 from the tee. Straight away up a gentle incline. Road to the casino down the left side. If you pull it you won’t be the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] one to send one out into the street. Ask me how I know. Its pretty open on the right other than a FW bunker.

#16 From the left side of the FW. Not much to worry about on the approach other than the front left bunker. You can miss behind the left bunker or short middle & leave yourself a good chip.

#16 From the back left of the green. Not much to see here. Another big green with a lot of gradual slope.

If you call someone following in cart reading a history book on her ipad a gallery then maybe. But after talking with her I doubt she comes

Thanks for the 16th recap Shakey, you're getting me more excited for the event!

Ditto Shakey, so going back and looking at your recaps it seems like most if the holes have big greens correct?

Thanks Shakey. I bet this course will look great in a few weeks.

Yep. That's kind of a theme. Big greens. Some with significant ridges & break & some with gentle break that are hard to read. Expect some 3 jacks unless you're throwing darts.

This place reminds me a lot of Squire Creek where I used to be a member. It's another Fazio course and I love it. Might have to get another round in out there before the invitational for a little practice.

Just sent in my final payment for Lake Charles. It's on like Donkey Kong, fellas.

I'm ready to leave tomorrow. Just have one little thing to wrap up before this event. The HHI event.

Hole 17 - Decently long par 4 with water all the way down the left & a pretty tough green. This hole has ruined a few rounds.

#17 off the tee. The slope next to the water on the left will call your ball in like a siren calls a sailor if you get to close. A pair of FW bunkers right.

Bryan was only able to get the pic from the tee on this one, but the green is another relatively big one with a lot of break. If it’s pinned front center, good luck keeping your ball near the hole if you are above it.

Thanks for all the hole updates Shakey. Great to have the pictures when mentally going through each hole. Can't wait for the practice round.

17 looks like a fun hole. Yes, the water in the left is definitely am issue, but I'm more worried about the pin placement, after that description. I would be happy with par here.

Three weeks from right now, Texas Bubba & I will be on the road headed to bryanmac520's house!

Got a text from Skittle today. He's jacked up and ready to go. A roadtrip with two of my favorite peeps! This is going to be so awesome. Hell, a new line of shirts may be made from one of our dumb catchphrases.

3 weeks and Guitar Junkie, jholl and myself will be headed south for a round with EnglishTurn then onto Lake Charles.
Can't wait to see everyone!

I still think the plan is for me, Bogey317 and Skittle to travel to Memphis Sunday night after the round and play Monday morning there in Memphis. Just a heads up.

Interesting. Pondering about stopping in Jackson, Ms on way back and playing The Refuge then driving on into Memphis Sunday night. Gotta see how much money, time and energy we'll have left.
