Srixon Z 745 Irons Preview

Now I'm an admitted sucker for black irons... But these are absolutely stunning

I was able to hit these and was surprised how good they were, I should not have been since all manufactures are making great products. I wish they would have had the 945 to hit as I may have pulled the trigger on these in a mixed set with 4-6 or 7 in 745 and 7/8-w in 945. I could not feel the mishits and they were a bit larger than I wanted(didnt help that I hit the forged pros which have to be one of the smallest heads out there). I also found these to be a higher launching iron which is not ideal for my swing. For someone wanting forgiveness and more of players looking iron these should be on the top of your list.

I went and hit the 745's against the Apex CF16 at golf store today. I hit three shots with the Srixon a little heavy, one of which quite badly, and threw out none because I was a newbie running Trackman S/W. Subsequently, I threw out one horrible shot with CF 16 after learning the software, all others were very good feeling strikes with consistent Smash. If I had dropped the bad swings from the Srixon dispersion and Smash would have been much tighter, but I guess you can always play that game. Loving the feel of both. Here are the numbers - the tiled summary display is a 10 shot average:

EDIT - If anyone notices any particular features or patterns of these launch numbers, I would be interested to hear your thoughts, perhaps over PM if need be. It strikes me that I have a shallower attack and my launch angle is probably 3-4 degrees above "normal"for a 7-iron, but I'm not sure that is all bad... but makes probably makes me prone to floaty shots and less control in wind.

Very very nice! Enjoy them!

They are beauties. I've got the bug to replace my irons after realizing that the shafts in my XR Pro's are not a great fit for me. For now I've put Wilson Staff FG Tour 100's in my bag but I'm very close to pulling the trigger on these in a combo set: 4 & 5 irons in the Z545's and the 6 through PW in the Z745's. I'll be hitting them today with a couple different shafts and hopefully make a decision in the next week.

Thanks! Six weeks later they are still all I was was hoping for, really pleased with them. With the new models coming out the deals on these are pretty good, I'm glad I went for it. The combo set is a great idea, I pretty much went all 745 for convenience, and I wanted to see how the 745 long irons would play for me.

those look so nice and clean. may have to look at a set for myself..

Revival of the z745 thread - I've been enjoying the heck out of these. They do what I like and look and feel great. Here is a photo of a fantastic 6-iron that was my favorite shot of the entire round today. Par 3 13th - 189 yards, but looked a little shorter so I chose 6i over 5i. Flighted it down with just a hint of cut and came off just as I envisioned, covering the flag and landing about 15 ft long and checking up within 5 ft. Unfortunately I three-putted the treacherous downhill left hand sloping putt leaving it short and then lipping out another slippery 3 footer. Golf! I was bummed such a good shot was rewarded with bogey...

Srixon Z 745 Irons Preview

Amazing day today with the z745's. I have been ONE with the 9i lately, too many tight shots and birdies to list and two kick-in birdies today alone, plus one Sunday. The confidence is real. The contact on the rest of the set has been not to shabby either. These do it for me, in a big way.

No 1. handicap hole, Par 4 380 yards. Left half of green the guarded from fairway by huge pines overhanging and blocking anything from centerline left. Ripped a U65 3i to right center, then this 9i from 140.

Kick in 9i on No. 2 handicap 8th hole too. Weapons.

My only complaint is the gap between my PW and my RTX-3 52*. Need to go shopping for a 50* and 54* to replace the 52* and 56* I think.

Hey, just a guy that still loves 5 year old irons necromancing this thread. I'm not a big GolfWRX guy but I happened to see this article and I think the author nailed it. My z745's are not getting sold, and remain in lead spot when blades are not in the bag. I love that the tour staff kept them in the bag throughout the z765 release and that the z785 returns to a more z745-esque shape. Having to choose between z745 and Z Forged is a nice dilemma to have.

I think the move from Srixon to make the 785’s more similar to the 745’s than the 765’s was a great decision. I played the 765’s and the 85’s are definitely a superior players CB! Those Z Forged irons are so damn sexy tho! You do have some tough decisions ahead, haha!

What is your differences in the 765 compared to the 785s? Some have said the feeling of the 785's aren't a good as the 765s? And the 765s felt more forgiving.......

Not a biased question as I havnt hit the 785's....but genuine none the less

IMO, the 785’s do have a softer feel when struck well. They are a bit smaller and with that a bit more demanding, but the new CG placement has well struck shots being massively rewarded with a fantastic feeling strike. I would give the edge to the 85’s on low strikes in forgiveness, with just a touch more offset it really does help get the ball elevated with a minimal loss in distance. That’s just my experience so far. It’ll be more apples to apples once I get some Recoils in the 785’s, but I would imagine they’ll feel even better at that point.

@Big Soil....we probably should of taken that to the 785 thread....so lets do that.

You’re probably correct. LOL!

Took these out for a rip today... they are still just so relevant to what I am looking for in an iron. I hit the ball SOLID today. Including doing some major damage on par 5 approaches with the 4-iron, and delightful short irons close to the hole. I need to go look into when my golf store is getting or already has the ZX7.
