Even through 3. Nice putt on 2 for par, missed a birdie opportunity in 3. #4 is the first part 3. 174 to that pin. Hmm. How aggressive do I want to be....??
I was aggressive and thought I had it. Left to right wind was a little stronger than I thought. Easy up and down for par, good drive and dropped a 17' birdie on the next. -1 through 5.
I'll take that from that lie next to the bunker. Didn't realize the pin was that far back but it worked out. 190 7- iron for an easy birdie. -3 through 8.
This is where I was last time playing here (-3 through 8), and the the course started getting the best of me. Partner has checked out. It's already getting the best of him.
Finally ran into some trouble of the tee to start the back, but managed a par, then left one way short on the par 3 11th. Was expecting about a club of wind help, didn't get it, and hit it really fat to boot. You can hear I wasn't happy about it.
214 par 3 #13 with a right to left wind. 5 -iron to about 15 feet.
Another good drive to here ^ and after guessing the wind right I'm -5. Don't want to jinx it, but this is a tough course so it's becoming one of the best scoring rounds of my life.
Damn. I beat the heck out of that drive and still lost the bet. 3 yard difference. Not a great wedge shot to end on, but still have a chance at one more birdie.
Finished -5 67. Not the best scoring round of my life, but to stay clean and shoot 5 under on a 7030 yd 73.7/135? Sure feels like one of the best. Buddy won a split so no one lost any money and he changed our tee time tomorrow to my nemesis course instead of the lake. I don't think I've ever shot lower than 77 there. Lol Strategy.
Hope it wasn't as bad as it looked, Apex. And that others got out today. I'd gift our weather here today and tomorrow to any Midwestern sufferers if I could.
Got lucky on 9. Yanked my drive and just barely cleared the out of bounds. Worked a birdie. Out in 33 (-3), and then gave one back on ten. The high launch spinny shafts are in full effect heading west into the wind. And I'm going to have to make an adjustment for the distance change in the combos from the standard and the pros.
Trying to play a little smarter with this inconsistent wind. Isn't always working out, but did with this 4-iron off the tee on 11. I usually hit driver here (short par 4) and get in trouble. 237 down the middle I can live with today.
Gave another back on 12, and need to hit that 9 footer for bogey on 13. I'm having to work reeeal hard to control them in this wind now and it's putting me in some really bad spots when I can't.
