What Hobby Would Replace Golf?

Too out of shape for basketball so probably video gaming.

I used to write prior to 9/11 but back then I did both, write and golf as concurrent passions.

Words and ideas used to antagonize and prod from within as they'd burst upon my screen once finally offered release. Hours or minutes, pages and pages would leap from mind to fingertips. I always giggled, wondering where it all came from, as if I were merely the remote puppet for another's coordinated prose.

Wrote mostly for myself but with the faint notion to perhaps one day share.

Losing one (inspiration based as to the importance I'd previously attached to the creative word, not writer's block per se) was hard enough. Losing the other too, and always possible due to my awful lower back, would be damned depressing.

I'd hit the gym more. At 50 I can still pack on and shape some muscle but I'm also aware that my best days are behind me. I can hit a certain level and maintain for a while but Father Time's relentless counter punches will wear the inevitable decline at some point. I can still play basketball, despite the same back that inhibits the golf swing, but that's also at the mercy of Mr. Time.

Used to draw, was decent but that inspiration has long extinguished itself. I'd probably accept a new and different challenge... painting. Everything from landscapes, portraits to abstract, whatever.

My imagination, if it cannot ever be again heard, needs to be seen already.

Maybe. If I get around to it.

I would finally get around to building one of these:

I would go back to Competition Pistol shooting, still fairly active but not nearly to the level when my son was still involved.

Surf and read more.

Classic car collecting/ showing. That would be tough as I assume that comes with a lot of golf in the forms of negotiations and trade deals. But yeah. If I could afford to have a notable collection of classic sports cars, I would consider giving up golf.

For me it would probably be archery, hunting, fishing or a combination of the three.

Shooting guns at the range or go-karting.

Probably video gaming. I love to shoot guns but am limited to 100yds or closer in my area. If I had access to 1000yd range then it would be shooting guns.

Surf, surf, and more surf

Probably racing or get back into coaching.

That looks like a weekend project for you. Why haven't you knocked that off the list yet? :alien: That looks pretty intense and I agree, you'd have to add a few secret compartments to it.

beach volleyball and/or camping

Poker first, mainly tournament poker. and then gaming

Working out more and indoor Cycle. I love spin.

If I could no longer golf. I know my new hobby would be drag stripping. I love White Lion. And would put all my cash towards building her up! MORE POWER!! I love golf to much to give it up. So, dragging will be a part time hobby once I have extra non-golf cash. But if I couldn't golf. I'd jump in big time!

Tough question.

I'd have to go back to fishing for getting outside, and online gaming for competitive streak fixes.

Golf is so crazy though. There's infinite room for improvement. Even if you shoot 59, you could analyze the 9 foot putt on 16 you missed for a 58. There's nothing in the world that has the pull of golf.

Jack casino downtown runs a bunch of solid tournaments.

Ya I've played in some of the quarterly tournaments and have done pretty well. Last one I played was a rebuy where you didnt need to be down to the felt to rebuy, you could just rebuy at any time. It was called their "Insanity" tournament or something like that. Made a final table run with only one rebuy right as the tournament started and then lost to a 2 outer to finish 9th. Would have put me in the chip lead too

Would probably start playing softball again. Have always thought about hockey too. Or tennis if the wife was interested in doing something together.

I'd probably get back to climbing, but more sport climbing than anything else.

Or I'd wait for 441 to make me play baseball with him.

I would probably play more tennis and with the extra money I might also take up bird hunting. It's something I really do enjoy but all my extra time and money right now goes to playing baseball and golf.
