Between the pitch clock and the limit on pickoff attempts I think you will see a slight uptick in stolen bases, but analytics has pretty much killed stolen bases, and ending the defensive shift will give more ammo to the just wait on base and get moved around by a big hit group.

I find it hilarious that baseball is trying all these little things to move the game along that ultimately won't make it any more fun to watch as small market teams still get killed by their lack of ability to compete with the deep pockets of teams like the yankees and dodgers. A hard cap would do so much more to have some parity, and make more games competitive and interesting.

Completely agree on small market vs deep pocket...

I really don't think it will change much, and some things might get worse. Everything I see represents the strike zone as a 2d box, where it is really more of a 3d cube. The ball should be able to cross through any part of that 18in widex18in deepx25in ish tall cube and be called a strike.

The bigger problem is baseball is the time it takes to play now. I miss games taking 2:15 and pitchers pitching to contact. as Crash Davis said "strike outs are fascist, and besides that they're boring"

Hard Cap will never happen without a floor.

Players don't want a Cap
Owners don't want a Floor

Most powerful union in the world... Not happening ANYTIME soon

Better and quicker...

Although a pitch clock is #1 on my list. This in and out of the batters box and tightening gloves is ridiculous.

Luckily Pitch Clock is coming this year! I am excited to see if it makes any meaningful difference in game times.

Maybe, yes. Its certainly worth a try. Far too many blown calls in important spots. It would certainly be better without a union protecting shi**y umpires like Angel

I read that. Sounds like a plus. Looking forward to it. I love baseball, but the time has been dragged out the past 15+ years I feel like.
Although numbers I've read say it's only 15-20 minutes longer on average since the mid nineties. Maybe it's that it's all the 'specialists'
and pitching changes. I'm sure the shortening attention span matters as well. But watching on TV has been painful for a while now for me.

Well, they also addressed the "specialists" at least somewhat, by forcing pitchers to face at least 3 batters minimum.

That being said, I agree the games take too long.

Yeah, I don't mind the 3 batter minimum. I kind of wish it would be a whole inning before the 8th inning. Sometimes the changes in the 6th and 7th
seem like they're constant. But that's not happening obviously.

I agree it won't happen, and MLB will continue to watch their popularity fall because of it, while they stick their head in the sand and try to fix it with other things.

It would certainly make for a one-sided argument. Imagine Earl Weaver/Tommy Lasorda hat sideways, kicking dirt on a machine while hurling vile insults 😆

I feel it would be better, HOWEVER the thing that would make baseball GREAT is a hard salary cap.

Baseball would be better with anything that makes the game FASTER.

Actually part pf the game is seeing where that umpires strike zone is. As long as he is consistent in what is a strike, it doesn't matter what the machine would say, within reason of course. Good umpires are consistent.
We, except for Angel, his consistency is that he is consistently a pompous jackass with a strike zone that varies from pitch to pitch. I wish they could lose that useless pile of dung.
Of course he would sue. He sued for not getting important games because he sucks..............

I have always been against this but I'm starting to think this is a good idea. This and a pitch clock. Also please add a hard rule that guys, like Bryce Harper, can't leave the box after every pitch to adjust their gloves touch the dirt and then bang their bat 4 times....AFTER EVERY PITCH...and as a phillies fan I love Harper.

I’ve always really disliked that. You shouldn’t have to figure out what the ump’s strikezone is, ever. The strike zone is defined by the rules. They shouldn’t have their own zone. If an ump is consistently giving a couple inches either way, then he’s not calling it correctly. Consistent incorrect is still incorrect.

I have an idea for baseball.
A batter can only step out of the box to slow play, fix gloves, adjust crotch, spit, move helmet whatever 1 time per at bat. If you need to get a sign, you better figure out a way, otherwise the pitcher can throw!
pitchers can only go to the rosin, adjust hat, adjust pants, step off the mound 1X per batter.
this should speed the game

No. Umps add in a lot of emotion. Each of us has a for instance of a what if....

probably appeal to more if it didn't take so bloody long to play
The pitch clock is amazing then. Was shocked at how fast the game went when I went to a spring training game.

The umps have become way too much part of the show. They seem to want to be noticed. Some of them showboat almost as much as the players.
