The "perfect" practice facility...does it exist???

The set up there is really good for a practice area. To me it's why THP Demo Day was so good last year.

The 3 hole loop was so awesome. Enough tee boxes on 1 to hit short and mid, and then the 5 and 4 are self explanatory.

Tough to find a good practice facility out here (surprisingly).
Silverstone has a nice grass range, decent sized/condition putting green. Only 1 green for pitching and bunker play though. and the sand there sucks, very thick and shallow. (like hitting a shot off the beach and hitting a rock 1 inch down)

Badlands has a great putting green. Large, some good flat areas for drills, and the condition of the green is superb. (fast and smooth)

Callaway on the LV Strip. Decent range, you have to pay extra to hit off grass though. The putting green is horrendous though. Half the green is so slanted its un playable. Better off just playing the par 3 course late at night.

Black Mountain has a nice little facility. Avg size range/putting green/pitching bunker green. But its alway in decent condition and never that busy. Only thing is its about 45 mins away from where I live.

Thanks for bumping this thread. My local track only has a range and a small putting green. I would really like a place to practice chipping. Hard to judge roll out when just using the range.

I would pay decent money for a decent practice facility. My 3 closest options aren't that great, especially when it comes to putting and chipping. I have to wait an hour+ sometimes before there is enough room to be able to actually chip to the green or putt to a hole. Too many people, not enough green. The putting greens are in terrible shape and the chipping greens are like stimp 0 with long rough grass... As for driving ranges, grass is hard to come by, mats are in bad shape, and the grass that is available is absolutely horrid (uneven, rare to find a bay with fresh grass, even first thing in the morning). I am actually looking to drive up to 1 hour+ away to find something/anything better, and do it twice a week.

The OCN range seems largely the way it is for the PGA show demo day.

The practice areas near me suck! Most are just ranges...and when I say range, I mean pasture with yardage signs...and since the tees move forward and backwards the yardage signs arent accurate either....no target flags or greens...no practice bunker and a small putting green.

I would kill for a really good practice facility.

mine is about like yous tim. 250 yds till you get to the box on the hole at the end of the range. then about 320 to the fairway and green just past it on another hole. no sand to practice from. the putting green is decent at best. i hate having to wait for the tee box and fairway to clear when trying to hit range balls.

The closest range to me is pretty nice but the short game area is off limits if you don't play for the school team, that sucks because it is a great area.

Diamante in Cabo had a pretty cool range. A couple of the highlights, included in the greens fee was a slider bar with a fully stocked bar. On the range there was rock music playing and there were 3 balls of balls at every tee station. One bag was Pro v1's, another Hex Blacks and the third was TP5's. Plenty of targets to hit at from grass tee.

Not exactly part of the practice area but every house had a putting/chipping green next to it and a tee area that had a green about 150 yards away and the range passed that so you could hit full shots.

Having lived in NY all of my life, a trip to the Turning Stone Casino was a "great find" during the winter months. Their dome is a great place to practice in bad weather.. Here in our "community", we have 2 separate facilities. The one at Candler Hills is much much nicer....

I can tell you from experience the practice facility at PGA Village is super nice. Five different ranges, 4 short holes, a bunker facility with 5 different types of sand, at least 5 putting greens, movable canopies over the range, Titleist range balls.

What passes for "grass" tees at my closest range is really, really sad. Lee Trevino says the best players took the game out of the dirt. Man am I going to be good then. Hitting off dirt (often mud) because the tees haven't been moved in 8 weeks, yardage signs completely wrong, and a synthetic putting green that rolls about a 25 (exaggerating, but not a ton).

David Pelz's backyard...

That looks ridiculous. I want to hang out with Dave Pelz.

Pshhhhh... short game. He needs a driving range so he can work on his 3 wood more :alien:

+1 for this facility, and if you go after I believe 6 pm , you rate is good for all of the next day, only place I have ever seen a fairway bunker area to practice from , short game practice is great here

Yes it does, Tiger's house

I think mine already exists and it's at Bandon Dunes. It's a 50 acrea facility with have two ranges - one facing south and the other north - both with grass teeing areas, a massive putting/chipping green, two short game areas and a free David McLay Kidd designed 9 hole par 3 warm up course where you create your own tees/distances.

Best I've seen in person is at the Atunyote course at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Vernon, NY:

I wouldn't say it's the best but if you are in NYC, the practice facility at Ferry Point is pretty darn good. Nice grass (most of the time) range, good short game area and a good practice green. Compared to what's available elsewhere near the city (excepting private clubs), it is worth the $50 fee.

(Hole 16.. No margin for error) No pics of a practice area. But the best practice area I ever found was joining a country club in the late summer of this year. I play early am during the week and literally have the whole facility to myself. I will play 9 for score than the next 9 hit 2 balls off the tee and play them into the greens. Also enjoy dropping a few balls in the bunkers and other various lies to work on the short game at my leisure

Was a big investment late in the season , but with the slow traffic on the course during the week it offers the best practice I have ever encountered. Narrow tee shots / tiny greens / deep rough . Here is an example of the tee shot off of 18 . Love hitting a few off of here to work on accuracy.

The short game area at Caledonia is the best I've ever seen. I'm lucky that near me is a course that also has a decent driving range, a nice putting green, and a nice 3-hole practice course. Their short game area isn't all that great, but as long as you don't abuse the place you can do some short game practice on the practice holes when there's nobody else on it.
