Anyone know if Cobra will paint one of their Bio Cell+ drivers in a color they have in their women's Bio Cells? My daughter went through a fitting last week and really hit the Cell+ very well. The only problem is there is an aqua blue color in the women's Cell drivers she wants. The men's bio cell is somewhat an option, but because of the loft the women's is not. Any thoughts?

I suppose you could contact them, but as far as I know the ladies colors are offered only in that loft option. Worst case you ask and they say no, right? So whats the harm in asking?

If not, you could buy the driver and then send it to continental golf for a custom paint job.

True point. They do awesome work and have some wicked color options.

Good idea #Cookie! I told everyone it wasn't true what they said about you and having good ideas! lol :friends:

That is a definite possibility. Not sure if they can keep the honeycomb pattern though. Another option would be one of those clubhead wraps I guess.

Id contact cobra and see what they say as I havnt heard anything about the womans club colorz

I think it's a reasonable bet that Cobra can sell you the color you want in the loft you want. They're far better served by putting their club in your daughter's hands than they are by denying your request to save a few pennies

There is typically way more to it than just grabbing a head and painting it though, these come in large scale batches and it isn't like they are painted in house. Its not about saving pennies, its about logistics.

I'm sure they have a logistical way to handle something like that though. Lexi Thompson won the Lorena Ochoa tournament with a ladies color 8.5* loft amp cell Pro. That was never a standard offering. They must have their ways of making it happen. If they have a plan to make stuff available to anyone, it shouldn't be a big step to make it available to the public upon request. Sure, tour players get access to different stuff than we do... but we're just talking about a color/loft combo here, not a custom weighting in the head or a beta design.

FWIW - Blair O'Neal (Cobra staffer) just posted a short video on Facebook showing her new bag and equipment. The video prominently featured a pink Bio Cell + (not a standard color offering).

Yes, outside companies like Continental Golf handle custom color requests. These clubs are manufactured in large quantities in overseas factories. That's why companies outsource refinishing because most don't have in house painting capabilities.

When you start taking singular requests from consumers you can open up Pandora's box. What they have done for a paid staff tour player is way outside of things companies typically do for us, and as it should be IMO.

As had been said, it never hurts to ask and shoot them a line but the odds are the best bet will be someone like continental golf.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

I guess it just seems crazy to me. when I was having stuff made in large batches overseas, a call to my supplier with a special request was not a big deal. I'd get a $10 surcharge for things like bags with a different fabric for my sponsored players. That was a regular occurrence. And I wasn't doing anything close to the numbers that a company like Cobra does. If they don't have a relationship with their supplier that lets them put a color they already use on a product they already make... they're doing something terribly wrong. It should be as simple as a phone call. A guy goes and pulls an 8.5 head and puts it in the batch with 12.0 heads to be painted.

granted, I've never had golf clubs made in large batches. So maybe those folks work differently from other places. But, I have had lots of disc golf related stuff made overseas, as well as some PCBs and other things made overseas and here in the states. All were large runs in the thousands and while it's not the same, it is similar and one-offs really weren't a big deal. I'd only send stuff out to specialist companies if it differed from a standard material or design. like embroidery, custom fabric (that they did not carry), etc.

I very well could be wrong about this... but if it were me I'd just call cobra before anything else. It seems that there are plenty of other options if cobra can't help you out.

Big Tex - Holly Sonders has been playing the Bio Cell+ in aqua blue the past few days on Morning Drive on GC.

So between this and Blair O'Neal playing a pink Bio Cell+, I think it is safe to say the Cobra may have a few of these colored heads lying around. It would be worth a call for sure.

I received a response back from Cobra on my question. Pretty much as expected they do not do custom colors. Cannot blame them though, as Jman said I could see it turn into a nightmare for them to try and do that very often. So either convince her to live with a color or send it to Continental.

I just got another message from the folks at Cobra. They expecting to come out with some more color options in the Cell+, but they will not be available for a couple of months. Will probably include an aqua blue option. So we may just wait a little while.

IMHO I'm sure it would be easy for them, but as it was posted before, it's a Pandora's box. The production isn't the issue, it's the whole chain of customer service, delivery costs, additional logistics, unhappy customers, customers taking back their orders, the people taking orders back, changing the orders etc.

Large volume companies don't need nor want to take care of single item orders that goes beyond their normal customization programs, it's too much hassle over too little money. It requires too much labour in different areas of their company. I know, it sucks, but that's how the cookie crumbles.

yeah, I get all of that. When I was in a similar business, I always took care of the female population first and foremost. Sexist or not, female golfers get attention everywhere they play. That factor is multiplied by 10 or more if the female golfer is skilled. Having Cobra equipment in their hands when people are watching them swing can only be a good thing. A special request for a girl to get the color she wants in the driver she wants would be a no-brainer for me. Especially when it's a very easy thing to accomplish.

I can assure you that on the golf course, and as it pertains to golf equipment, the same is not true sadly. Female golfers do not get the same equipment attention as men do and its not going to change anytime soon.

Dude, you're way overthinking this all IMO. Its not surprising at all that this is the case, I'm impressed they followed up abut the possibility of new colors down the road, that is pretty freaking cool IMO, but its not shocking at all that they replied the way they did. Its cool that you did things a certain way, but this is exactly how all of the other major OEM's would have handled it as well.

sadly, indeed. They might not get the attention from OEMs that they deserve but if they are skilled they definitely have the attention of other golfers. I'm mainly talking about amateurs although i do think LPGA golf is under-rated. Some will gawk, some will scoff, and some will try to get them for scramble partners... but everyone is looking. If OEMs don't see a benefit there, I don't understand why.

Thats just it, they dont. Most men (right or wrong) do not look at what the lady is playing to see what they will purchase.
The OEMs have studied this up and down. I know and play with LPGA golfers regularly and they know it too.
You are talking about a marketshare that is absolutely a tiny fraction of what is sold.

I'm relatively new to the golf world... I guess I'm just shocked that it works this way. It makes no sense to me. I'm not saying it's untrue. I just think it's wrong. I know for sure that if a young girl stepped up and striped a bomb down the fairway the very first thing I'd want to know is what club she just used. Then I'd want to know if she gives lessons.
