Chicago area thread (Northern IL, Milwaukee, Northern Indiana too)

I did some scouting last year and my impression was there were quite a few better courses for a better price than at Cog Hill.

Couldn't be more right Hawk. Cog is a wonderful facility, but Dubs is just way too expensive. If you go 5 minutes south you have Ruffled Feathers for $90 (Pete Dye design), a little bit more south of that you have Mistwood and Bolingbrook GC among others. In the greater Plainfield/New Lenox area there's Old Oak. In my neck of the woods, which is about 30 minutes from Cog you have Orchard Valley, Arrowhead, St. Andrew's (2 courses), Springbrook, Naperbrook, Cantigney, Prairie Landing.

Ill be in Jrod as long as the date works. What about the PGA course over in riverside ia. at the casino. It looks nice.

Yea I've heard a lot of good things about Mistwood, Cantigny, Prairie Landing and Stonewall Orchard. Mistwood is on my list one of these days for sure. I'd like to play Ravisloe as well.

I could dig up a possible in at Medina....

I vote Olympia Fields if we're pulling strings.

I'm game for either. I've walked Medinah and it's amazing.

Sadly most of the Chicago people in this thread have plans that weekend or had no desire for the Wilson event.

I have an extreme desire for the Wilson event and threw my hat in the ring :D

I'll see how this Wilson event pans out for us and we can go from there, I never played there and was supposed to play Inverness and the guy was stuck in Montana (of all places) and couldnt make it last minute

O.F. Has allowed public play in the past...you can call and ask politely or write a kindly worded email to see if that is still the case.

Sweet maybe we should just get the Southern crew together. These Chicago people are no fun.

I would love to play a round with you guys, but 155 for Dubs is not in the cards. Me and the wife are finally taking our honeymoon in December so can't justify that much on a single round. Find somewhere a little more wallet friendly though and I'm there.

Stonewall orchard is phenomenal. I enjoy Mistwood a lot as well. I'd also throw in Blackstone, Thunderhawk and White Deer Run.

I'm up for anything I just like playing courses that PGA tour events are held at.

You should play it once if you can afford it. I would admit there is no perceived value there, but as far as challenge, conditioning, and really good golf holes.. It's hard for me to say others are better. If Phill would have said different things about the course I think it may be viewed much differently. That being said.. There is a lot of great golf that has much more perceived value, all over our state. Nothing else I have payed has been in the type of condition #4 is in. That includes Kemper Lakes.

Kemper Lakes Golf course is extremely nice and tough. Being private hard to get on. Guests fees there are $110 if I am not mistaken. They did just replace all sand and expand some traps.

I drive past kemper daily and used to caddie there. I think it's a nice place with good conditions, but not worth the crazy number they charge for membership. There's a long line of folks trying to sell.

Dubs is usually in great shape, although I haven't played it in 5 years or so. I'd just rather play two nice courses for that type of cash.

Kemper 2500 to join is cheap but the 767 per month is crazy. I am a social member and get to play with guests 5 times a year. That's how I play kemper.

I completely agree, and you could play highlands of Elgin 3 times! I just don't think discouraging people from playing it once is the right way to go. I probably will play it once every other year. Def not in the budget to play often.

I thought Kemper was more penal, especially off the tee, than #4. O.B. Left water right... No chance at recovery. My two day total at #4 was 8 shots better than my 2 day at Kemper.

And that doesn't even include the cart or practice range.

I haven't played many of these higher end courses, but I have played Thunderhawk. It is a fantastic course that I think is a pretty good value compared to similar tier courses in Chicagoland.

2500 to join is pretty dang cheap for a club like that, and could suck me in. However, a high monthly definitely offsets it. I think I would be willing to pay a little higher "sign on" if it resulted in lower monthlies.

I am deffiantly interested in coming up there and playing. I know me and Bhilln want to get up Cantigny sometime late summer or fall.
So is anyone interested in playing Dubsdread? I'd love to get a foursome together.

Ditto that on Thunderhawk. I head over and use their putting green after work, on occasion. Always want to just go tee it up and play 9.

I'd join Ivanhoe way before I'd touch Kemper.

Country club high monthly fees plus cart fees is why a lot can't join. Dream but not reality for me. I play the Grand geneva as guest for 60 and comes with everything
