What's Your Expertise?

I've been with my company for 14 years. My official title is Recoveries Accountant. No it's not as fancy as it sounds. My company is one of the largest Commercial Landlords in Columbus. I like to say I'm the guy that tells our tenants how much they owe. If they don't pay it, I send the hounds (collections) after them to get it. So I'm the nice guy. :act-up:

I work a lot with Excel during my day. A few other industry specific softwares.

That's cool, I have a team that audits you guys!

I personally contribute nothing to society. Degree in law, MBA in Finance, turned to commercial real estate and excelled in running a sales organization. Now I have created many jobs for others as I've grown organizations so i guess my contribution is helping others pay their mortgages!

Went to school for and have been working in the IT field for 6+ years with a local online marketing/reputation company. I focus a lot of my time helping clients implement our online strategies to their websites. I deal a lot with all types of third party CMS systems and editing raw HTML/PHP files, also troubleshooting a lot of website scripting conflicts.

I would say tho my real passion is golf and cars. I have been doing high end car detailing for the better part of 10+ years.

Steam systems and sales of steam systems.

Got in the business at 22 working for a major manufacturer working through dealers/reps/distributors. I now work in the end user/contractor/direct sales for a different company.

I'm pretty good at making things really hot.

Mechanical/Electrical maintenance engineer (mechanical bias).

I've mainly worked in FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) factories, food manufacturing, building manufacturing etc...

My expertise is doing nothing and I do it very well :thumb: I've been retired for 10 years as of this November and when I was working, I worked in computer support.

How do I get started in that field??

As I suspected, a really varied and good knowledge base here.

I too am fascinated by Mikeg's forensic job. Wish I had known that at PGA, I'm sure he would have has some cool stories to share. But we were too busy trying to tame The Bear Trap.

Going on 15 years at my employer (Financial industry - technology) and I'm an expert at nothing.

Solid experience with Access Management, hardware deployment, and a knack for solving problems via process improvement has me doing ok I suppose.

Everyday is a challenge....manage people that have worked here ranging from 15-35 years so little challenges are not uncommon.

At the moment, I feel like I'm more of an expert at changing diapers and shoveling snow than I am at anything I do in my real job.

We were too busy having fun!

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Sales and importing. Sell through wholesale distribution and manage the Southeastern US for my company. On my trip this week I was in Marathon Energy one day and Nissan Manufacturing another. Lots of variety and nothing stays static for long.

I've been in telecom for almost 20 years now. My background is in bandwidth/data (DSL, coax, T1, fiber/Metro Ethernet), but over the past few years I've been getting much better with voice, almost all SIP or Hosted PBX. Decent knowledge of hosted services like email, websites, colocation, etc. but I'm primarily an access guy.

The industry's always changing, and I don't think it's changing for the better for independent companies like mine, which is one of the reasons I decided to go back to school for my MBA as a safety net.

I have retired from the US Navy Submarine Service as a Sonar Technician. Went back to school and I now work as a Nano Engineer on Ion Microscopes. I get to travel around the world meeting great people and my clubs are always by my side. I have spent 20 years coupe up in cramped spaces. I'm a Peacock! I need to spread my wings.

I've got 13 years in IT, kind of a jack of all trades within IT. Systems and Network administration, Active Directory, Exchange, Routers/Switches, Mac, PC, Linux...work with it all. Really though, I'd rather be playing music. hahaha

11 years with U-Haul International.

My expertise is internet commerce and mobile applications/development.

I know a guy in Knoxville...just sayin
Could you imagine me living in Tennessee with my (alleged) accent? I'd either be the town goat or the town celebrity haha.

Still searching for that expertise I guess.....but it seems like putting out fires ignited by inept people is one anymore.

Wish I had known THP and you four years ago when I opened our last hotel. The telecom company that installed all the above was a pain to deal with. Apparently they didn't care much for reading Hilton's specs and went with what they did on "their last job".

I can't tell you how many clients we get because they were with a national carrier who just stuck them with something that didn't come close to working or fitting their requirements.

The company I work for ( IT based in PHX) says we are about to "change the game for mobile" in the industry. I know they are looking to staff up that team. Just sayin!!

And yet during at least 3 status meetings I specially asked them if they had the Hilton requirements I had sent them before the first footer was even put int the ground. I continued to get a condescending "yeah we got it covered you just worry about what you do" type responses. If it had been my choice we would have been putting out a new bid right then.

Of course when it came time for the first test and all sorts of things weren't done, they began pointing fingers and claiming we changed the scope of work.

Expertise? Naw, not an expert but I've done lots of different things. In the Air Force I was a missile systems analyst, testing, trouble shooting and repairing every system on our missile, the AGM 28 Hound Dog. Then I began teaching math and coaching. A year or two into that I finagled a microcomputer and started down the uncharted path of getting computers into our school system. I developed and taught the first courses in our area (late 70's). Years later at retirement I was teaching AP Computer Science. After teaching, I worked as an Educational Technology Specialist where I did everything from installing, trouble shooting and repairing technology, computers and networks to teaching teachers. I retired from that in 2005 and now I mow lots of grass. Other things in my past, I built my own TV from parts back in the early 70's to fill in time between golf seasons in the UP of Michigan. I built my own house including electrical and plumbing in the early 80's, the only thing I contracted out was the masonry work, everything else I did myself. I built my own set of irons in the 90's (not too bad either). The most recent thing built is an M1-Garand from parts with a new barrel and new wood. Until recently, I did all my own mechanical work on the vehicles but no more. I think it all stemmed from growing up in a poor rural area where we had to do everything for ourselves.

I had been in the golf business for fifteen years, as both a teaching pro and as a retail manager. I'm currently in management in a new industry.
