Is there a correlation between loft of club and distance? What I mean is lets say I hit my 23* hybrid 180 yards and I am looking for a hybrid club to hit 210-220, the company who makes my hybrid also has models 20*, 18* and 15* for this discussion. Would it be correct to think a 10 yard difference between clubs so therefore to hit it 210 I would need te 15* ( 20*= 190, 18*=200 , 15* =210). Is this correct thinking?

I think it's pretty unique to the person, but here is my approximate breakdown. Some companies really push their "progressive gapping" in marketing, but each person is different. Some may have a harder time with a longer shaft, less loft, etc.

27° (5h) - 160-170
24° (4h) - 170-185
19.5° (2h) - 190-200

This gapping works pretty well for my game.

That would be correct. There may however be a bigger gap than 10 yards between the clubs, maybe 15 or so. You really need to hit them to see.

Traditionally, I believe there is about a 2.5 yard gap for each degree of loft.

The following are typical loft angles for a set of irons. However, there is considerable variability across manufacturers.

4-Iron 25 9-Iron 41
5-Iron 28 Pitching Wedge 45
6-Iron 31 Gap Wedge 50
7-Iron 34 Sand Wedge 55
8-Iron 37 Lob Wedge 60

These are the ranges for the average hitters on the PGA Tour.

4-Iron 210-220 9-Iron 140-155
5-Iron 195-205 Pitching Wedge 130-135
6-Iron 180-190 Gap Wedge (not used)
7-Iron 165-180 Sand Wedge 115-120
8-Iron 150-170 Lob Wedge 75-95

Average from reasonably proficient 40 year old

4-Iron 170 9-Iron 120
5-Iron 160 Pitching Wedge 105
6-Iron 150 Gap Wedge 90
7-Iron 140 Sand Wedge 70
8-Iron 130 Lob Wedge 40

Food for thought...

Looks like there is all kinds of randomness on the interwebs..... Look at this swing calculator haha

that actually seems pretty accurate as far as distances. not bad. i have a guesstimate of distances for me and they were all right there in that range. id like to see someone that knows there distances exactly to see how what it gives them..

They were pretty close with my woods/driver/low irons, but when it got closer to my wedges it wasn't all that close... Great concept though!

The 4, 5 and 6 were close. The others were a about a club off when considering the Weak/Strong range the website gives.

ya so not to bad for a online site, im sure the info part probably caused something. as if you put good mechanics to average it might have changed it up. but its a pretty cool little site.
