Tell Us About You

wow just getting caught up this thread is awesome..

I was an Axis & Allies fiend for years growing up. I used to also be an avid Diplomacy player, but a Diplomacy playing group can only stay together for so long before distrust and paranoia makes the game unpalatable.
Me too with Axis & Allies. Played a lot of that in HS and college.

I too am a math nerd. My daughter hits me with equations all the time because she knows I can answer faster than she can put it in the calculator.

Also, I was actually pronounced dead after rolling a Jeep when I was 20 years old. Massive head injuries, 3 broken vertebra in my neck and shattered right wrist. Got bored sitting around the house in a neck brace and cast and sling after about a month so went out and started hitting balls around the backyard with my left arm. Got to the point where I could shoot bogey golf playing one armed which really pissed a lot of my friends off because I would beat them. Guess it help that I didn't break my left wrist since I am left-handed.

Sometime around the mid 90's, I was playing a lot of online golf with Microsoft's Golf 3.0. There was a pretty large community of online golfers, we participated in leagues, tournaments, etc. One year we had an online Ryder's Cup, USA vs. Europe, just like the real thing. I qualified and was a member of the US team.

So at one time I was one of the top 12 online golfers in the entire USA.

I used to build and drag race cars and bikes. i had a street mustang cobra with a 200 shot of nitrous oxide and a stretched out CBR 1000rr. i (used) to be a bit crazy on the bike before i sold it in my early 20's. its known to get from Canton to Cleveland it takes about an hour at highway speeds. me and a friend made it from canton to Cleveland and back to canton in 45 minutes late at night around 3 am one night.

Some really interesting stuff in here, I really don't have that much to share on my end though. I am dyslexic, but I really don't struggle with it to a point where anyone notices.

KC Invitational last year. Fortunately it was in the shamble format, and I had this guy named Nate as a partner hitting next, I guess he's a big deal or something :D
Dude I was shaking like a leaf and unfortunately the first hole was a short sharp left dogleg and this was back when I could murder a golf ball so my drive would have been about 60 yards through the fairway so I had to take the little 3w.

In hindsight I should have hit an iron ha-ha

I found out I have dyslexia in college. I'm a great reader so I laughed it off at first, but when I later read about the fringe symptoms of it I realized I fit all of them.

I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane at 11,500' on my 50th birthday. My brain blue-screened and rebooted during the first 0.5 seconds when I realized that I didn't reach that age milestone by falling great distances.

The chute opened.

I shattered my leg during my senior season of high school hockey which essentially ended my competitive hockey career. I still have a plate and 6 screws in my left leg.

Also, I have had to go under anesthesia 5 times in my life. That is the most of anyone I know personally. It probably isn't the best record to have.

I was born a poor black child.....(someone will get this line)

I am part Japanese, Chinese and Jamaican. I am one of four children (2 girls and 2 boys) I majored in Psychology and Business in college. Turned pro in '94, taught at a few nice clubs across the US. I'm a foodie and love photography.

I once shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.

I accidentally cut one of my brothers finger tips off with a folding chair when we were little. They did a great job sewing it back on, but it makes for a decent story.

Lets see..... I've been an iron worker, heating tech, worked for Roto Rooter, owned a few garden centers and florist shops, retired from the petroleum industry. Built my own log cabin in the early 80' and flipped houses' back before the term was commonly used. Been to most of Europe and the middle east. In 2010 sold my bass boat and bought a Tollycraft 44 CPMY and took off for 18 months to do the Great American Loop. Now living in the south and golfing as much as I can.

Like Cookie, I have/had a number skill, although it seems to be diminishing as I get older. I can tell you what day of the week a date is (even 6 months down the road) without looking at a Calendar. So right now without looking it up, I can tell you September 12th is a Monday.
My wife can do that too. I don't know how she does it, but within a few seconds she can tell you what day of the week any date is. Baffling to me.

How small goes a parachute canopy look once it opens? That's what I thought when I looked up .. " damn those look bigger from the ground!! " lol

Let's see...

  • I'm the oldest of four boys.
  • From birth through high school, we lived in 10 different cities and 5 total states...and my parents were not military.
  • I'm approaching 10 years now living in SE Tennessee, which is a) the record by 5-6 years of longest I've lived in one place, and b) the closest I've lived to my birth city since I was 2 years old.
  • I broke my arm in 6th grade on a class trip at Monticello.
  • I skipped two years of math between 6th and 7th grade and went directly into Algebra. My wife uses my retained math skills to calculate multiple percents off while shopping.
  • I finished 8th in the state of WV in the National Geography Bee the day before the team I was on won the state Odyssey of the Mind competition to progress to world's in Boulder, CO.
  • My degree is in Chemical Engineering, but I work with SAP software at the same company that hired me as an engineer out of college 16 years ago.
  • In my interview with this company (for an engineering job, mind you), I told the HR Rep interviewing me that I wasn't sure I wanted to be an engineer anymore...and despite that they hired me anyway. I tried to warn them.

Also Chemical Engineers are useless with a zipper.

I played Div. III baseball for three years and golfed my senior year in College. Never played in any organized golf event up until my Senior year in College.

Great thread! My mom was an English and music teacher. My dad, a math and coach. I went to school on voice and football (div 2) scholarships. Had reconstructive knee surgery junior year. No more football. Had my first professional opera contract at age 20 and never looked back. Basically retired now from traveling around singing operas. I sing maybe 3-4 concerts a year.

Hummmm...I feel like a lot of you know a LOT about me. Let see...something new?

I'm have/am a First Degree Black Belt in Hopkido. I started when I was in Kindergarten with my twin brother and I had my black belt by the time I was in 3rd grade. At the time, my brother and I were the youngest black belt holders in the US. Then a year later I (we) got our first degree, so...one step over a black belt.

I remember about a 1/4 of what I learned, but the stuff I do remember is the good stuff. Unfortunately, due to a lack of flexibility with growing older, some of the things I USE to be able to do at that time, I can't anymore. Like the splits, and being able to kick over my head.

There you go!

I share a hometown with the Duck Dynasty guys.

sigh.

I've been in Customer Service or Technical Support for the last 20 plus years. The last 10 and a half have been with the nation's oldest and most trusted cookbook publisher as technical support for their software and websites. That's right, I get to help kindly little old church ladies run their computers. The customers that know that they don't know anything about computers are the easiest to help. The customers that think they know computers, even a little bit, are the biggest PITAs.

Besides golf, I have been fishing and hunting as long as I can remember. Internet recon for a big fishing trip lead to a non-profit organization and online community called the Nebraska Fish & Game Association (NEFGA.org). The NEFGA promotes fishing, hunting, boating & camping in Nebraska. I volunteered to help moderate the forum and now have been on the Board of Directors for several years. The NEFGA also led to me getting my Youth Fishing Instructor certification from the Nebraska Game and Parks and helping with youth and family fishing clinics across the state. Thrill of seeing a kid catch their first fish is awesome! It's un-explainable really. It's just as enjoyable as catching a fish myself if not more so! If you find yourself in south central Nebraska and want to catch a fish, shoot me a message. I'll do my best to get you on fish. Oh and I also have a fishing gear addiction, so I can supply the gear too...

I love playing Poker. When I lived in AZ I would play at least 5 times a week at the local casinos. Anytime I travel and I am near a casino, chances are pretty good I am spending my nights at a table. I have gone 28 straight hours at a table once.

HELLO neighbor!

My youngest daughter (she's about to turn 6) out of the blue asked if we could go fishing about two weeks ago. Surprise the heck out of me, considering I don't fish and haven't owned a poll in probably 20 years! Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure we'd catch a fish and she'd freak out when I tell her she can touch it and then we have to put it back! lol What would you suggest I do with her? I know how to fish and all, but I no longer have any polls or supplies and I haven't thought about that in 15 years.
