Best Cover Song of All Time?

Not saying its the best, not saying it is impossible to make a cover of Dylan sound better than Bob himself, but always liked this version. For some reason, I put this soundtrack on today and was reminded how good of a job Edie Brickell does on this.

My top five, in no particular order

  1. Johnny Cash - Hurt
  2. Social Distortion - Ring of Fire
  3. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street - Jersey Girl, specifically the version from the Live 75-85 box set
  4. Letters to Cleo - I Want You to Want Me
  5. Pearl Jam - Chloe Dancer / Crown of Thrones
Honorable mention - Chris Cornell's version of Nothing Compares 2 U

Soooooo many. Agree with smooth criminal, SoS, Hurt (huge NIN fan, but JC was unbelievable) & tainted love. Some of my faves that I haven't seen mentioned.
Die Die My Darling - Metallica
Zombie - Bad wolves
Faith & Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Biscuit
Personal Jesus - Johnny Cash

Anything by Me First & The Gimme Gimmes. The masters of covers.

Anyone who redoes a Bob Dylan song :)
mr. tambourine man- Byrds and Wm. Shatner
All along the watchtower-Byrds
a couple of good ones done by Jerry &/or Grateful Dead
Knocking on Heaven's Door-Guns and Roses
etc.
Or any remake done by Joe Cocker

This is not the best cover song in the world, no. But this is just a tribute. It has no reason to be this good, for what it is.

Lauren Babic - FTCU has been getting a lot of play lately.
